Rumor: Rare is working on two new games

I dunno why people are begging for sequels to N64 games when Rare is basically an entirely different studio now. Possibly a very good one (Sea of Thieves looks mint), but they're not the same people who made those N64 classics. I'm sure they could make good sequels to them, but so could any competent studio; they're not going to be more 'authentic' cos they're made by Rare.

Battletoads is trash, people. The IP is garbage. Conker was incredibly overrated as well.

Banjo is where it is at. The market is still there for a huge, lush 3D platformer. I'd take a Kameo as well, but we'll see.

Yep, but from what i've seen I trust this new-new Rare to make something fresh and nice

Going by Crash Bandicoot threads here on Neogaf, I thought nobody wanted them apparently lol

The Yooka-Laylee Kickstarter was record-breaking, IIRC. The thirst is there.

My dream scenario for Rare's IPs:

- Rare developing Kameo 2, like the prototype, darker in setting, still high fantasy

- Rare also developing Banjo 3

- Perfect Dark: Recore being developed by a 3rd party FPS developer (hell, even 343 for the in between years)

- Insomniac developing a Conker sequel

"dream" being keyword here

Rare posted a video a year or so ago saying they had three teams, so it makes sense. After rare replay was finished up, they likely moved on to their next project, and then you have team three doing something

I feel like a new battletoads, and a new ip is possible

Yeah I know that, but I've noticed there being a bit of some animosity against 3D platformers that aren't Mario around here, especially against Crash. In a lot of the threads about him, there's always the typical "no one cares about Crash anymore!" and "his gameplay is completely outdated for today's market" or whatever.

I don't get it either.

I haven't seen the crash thread, but might be because its a remake and not crash 4. Or maybe they dont like design of crash in skylanders so worry that is what he will look like in the remakes.

Personally ive never been a big fan of crash, but ill get the remakes as I really only played then at my cousins house when I was a kid. I loved banjo and spyro though

Word.

I recently played Banjo for the first time on Rare Replay and it was fantastic.

So much variety in gameplay mechanics and so many creative ways to get the puzzle pieces.

I would kill for a game like that with todays graphics (and more precise analog control).

I'd take these kind of games over all these cinematic story driven blah blahs

"Two extra IPs"...not new ips. Anything can happen.

I would actually be down for a stealth "splinter cell"ish type of Perfect Dark game. If we get Threeie my fiancé will be excited as hell.

It must be done

If this is too Nuts and Bolts for some people, then consider me a friggin' petrolhead

Jet Force Gemini is gonna be one of them going by their Trademarks > E3 pattern.

( KI trademark > KI reboot in 2013 )
( Phantom Dust trademark recently this year > Phantom Dust HD)

Mattrick era Rare consisted of Kinect Sports #1 and lucky us we were blessed with Kinect Sports #2, this went on since 2009-2014 so its cool if they've been allowed to work on several new projects along with SoT again

I guess they want to make the logo revival mean something again

My bet is that one team is working on the long rumored Battletoads for next fall (assuming its a downloadable game) while another is working on a new IP or another titles in a IP they worked on in the past.

With that Grant Kirkhope twitter hint (the one a Gaffer pointed out earlier in the thread), it might be a new Banjo or a new Viva Pinata (considering both IP were ones where he did a lot of composing work for) but he also did the soundtrack for Perfect Dark, it could be a game like that too.

Either way, next year looks solid for Microsoft so seeing two more Rare titles in addition to the promising Sea of Thieves being shown off next year is awesome :D.

I've noticed this too, so much so I pulled my Crash Retrospectives from NeoGaf and are posting them elsewhere. I guess Mario is the only 'good' platformer on NeoGaf apparently :l.

Two new games in addition to Sea of Thieves? Holy shit. I do hope they don't rust SoT though. According to Angry Joe the game felt very early and there were no guns or any other weapons yet. Rare said the same, yet it's coming February 2017?

I could be wrong, but I thought a Battletoads was all but confirmed on here? I'm probably wrong....or those "confirmed sources" were just spitballing......

Either way, I always liked Rare's unique games so I'm excited to see what they're doing.

Really? Wow Sea of Thieves looked really polished to me, maybe its just a certain build of the game that let people play around with the ships for now so they can introduce the other mechanics later?

Give us the Banjo-Threeie that was promised 15 years ago, then they can focus 100% on new IPs for all I care.

People are suggesting Sea of Thieves, Banjo and Perfect Dark? That's not how a game studio of only 100-150 people works these days. Talent is hired around a certain genre expertise, there's no way in hell they're working on three completely different genres with completely different setting and tone.

I could see Banjo or Battletoads being one of the games (the latter is more likely), and the other one some kind of jolly, story-based new IP.

As for Perfect Dark, a Joanna Dark mod for the modern Deus Ex games would scratch ALL my itches for it. For realsies. Make the character model and speech edit every mention of Adam Jensen for Joanna Dark. DONE. Fuck Elvis.

Love these guys. The middle dude is so earnest and such a massive fanboy, but in such an inoffensive way. They make me chuckle indulgently.

Yeah haha theyre a good listen, definitely Xbox centric but without the toxicity some other youtubers unfortunately get polluted with

Good stuff! It's good getting to see Rare spread its wings and get back to making traditional games again!

Now here's hoping Microsoft lets The Coalition become a multiple team studio to revive Shangheist.

Now that I've seen Sea of Thieves, my faith is restored. I'm looking forward to seeing what they have.

Phil should just throw a load of resources at Rare, 343 and The Coalition to make fresh new games like Sony has done with their studios. Instead we get sequel after sequel.

Excited to see what else they have brewing. I had lost faith in Rare but Sea of Thieves looks really promising so far.

Yeah I totally agree, but that should be new IPs. Rare of 2016 has no more claim to the old Rare N64 games than any other developer (except Playtonic obvz).

Give me Kameo 2. Thank you.

I played the first game to DEATH! Seriously, my disc stopped working, I then got a new copy and played it even harder.
