The stuff I hear about this game is flat out lies. There are opinions and then there are lies. Why on earth are people making up so much stuff about this game? The only truth is that the frames stutter and the motion blur is pointless. Also bloom is not so great. Other than that, this game is my favorite Mega Man. It is not some cheap immitation. That is such BS. It's the real thing. It is also not too hard. You can select up to 9 lives. If you still suck then you get health recover in the pause menu.

I really like how neither Comcept nor Humblebundle support answer any help requests. They're amazing.

Maybe I'll get the right codes before 2018 if I'm lucky.

Yeah, I tend to agree. I started it today after reading a lot of this thread and it's just not true. The game is a throwback to the 90s and this seems to generate most of the complaints. If, like me, you were gaming back then, then this game is fine. Only played level 1 so far but all the extras and personality look great. Makes me feel that GAF is full up with 12 year olds.

I won't call it a Mega Man game, at heart is a Mega Man game but feels totally different to me because the fast pace and focus in combos.

Playing now to get S ranks and here is where the game comes to his own, the dash mechanics plus the combo and power up sytem is simply brillant, to bad the stuff around it is less than stellar.

Thanks for this; I was on the fence buying at full price because of the comments but now I feel like I need to vote with my wallet and support this. Recore was also damn fun so I might get this on Xbone to keep up with Inafune.

A lot of people made up their minds on the game a long time ago. It could be a 10/10 game, they would still hate on it.

Got to play some this evening.

Apart from being as ugly as a sack of smashed arseholes, this game isn't as outright terrible as some people make it out to be. Retro music is rad and air dashing all over the place feels okay. The level design ranges drastically from serviceable to 'this would be embarrassing in a Sonic the Hedgehog Mega Man ROM hack'. Overhyped and underdone but far from total shit.

So now the promised disappointment has disappointed me.

(`_´)ゞ

First Form:

Get really close to him when he does his horizontal shots and just keep hammering away with your sword (Brandish). The projectiles won't hurt you, and you can get him down to a level you can absorb him quickly. Turn around after that and swing your sword at the projectiles that return.

When he raises the floor, climb to the highest point and jump over him. You can hit him a few times on the second one, but it's not necessary.

When he pops up in the middle, you can hit him a little bit after he first loses his shield.

Short version, the easiest way to damage him is during the first bit where he fires horizontally.

Second Form:

Use Battalion's weapon, firing toward the middle of his body when he comes towards you. Fire two of them, and that should make all of his parts open for absorption. Hit him a couple more times in the head as he passes by.

When he pops up in the middle, same strategy - fire two Battalion shots at his lower parts, absorb them, then jump up to the top left or right. Use the downward-angle shot to damage him, though it's sometimes hard to absorb him during this phase without being damaged.

When he climbs up the walls and the floor firing the beam, there's a small gap that you can dash through to avoid it. You can't damage him during this time.

Thanks to Hedgey for tips on the second part.

Thanks! I did it.

alright i give up

what are you supposed to do with the proto xel blocks in the coliseum stage

nevermind, probably the first time i've ever actually used the fire weapon

okay if this thing is the final boss this is easily the worst finale i've seen in a game for a long time

I kinda agree

I didn't fund the game and I was laughing at every one of it's videos and trailers and ijn the end it ended up being the third most fun game I played this year after Dark souls 3 and Ratchet and Clank.

that being said fuck the final level. boss isn't even that tough but the level before final boss is annoying to go through.

Honestly nice to hear, as I want to give the game a chance whenever I can get it. It looks fine and I expected it to be a good/okay game in the end. Thank you for your comments :).

Are there not any checkpoints in countershade's stage?

I spend ten minutes tracking that boss down though the level, then die to some instagib purple lightning and have to start over from the very beginning?

This is some shit!

Yeah it's pretty dumb.

Since I beat the game I decided to try the Ray DLC out. I liked the boss battle against her and I actually really like playing as her as well. However, her
constantly losing health mechanic isn't really doing it for me.

Not sure if I'll beat the game again as her. We'll see.

Thanks for the final boss tips (those of you who posted them). I've managed to beat the boss several times now going after all the technical bonuses in the level. I've finally got it to the point where I don't take that much damage at all (one part of the second phase still messes me up a bit, but nothing I can't tighten up).

I liked the first phase - the
callback to Yellow Devil was cool and the attacks are easy to memorise/dodge so I ended up really liking that part
.

Some of the technical bonuses are pretty tough to get - some of the sprint challenges within the robot factory were bastards to get. Its just a pity that there is no kind of indication which you have and which you are short as I'm short 1 or more sprint bonuses and I've no idea which I'm short!

Also, the last challenge in challenge mode basically wants you to 1 life the game with no save points... there are a couple of sections that could easily end me on that one. Its going to be a while before I even attempt that again, but I do have a pretty decent handle on most of the levels/bosses now so its not technically impossible, just bastard hard thanks to ledge grabbing being crappy on the highway level (and that one will be right near the end of the challenge...

I like the game, but I don't think it's fair to call people liars because they don't. The level design is a lot blander and more boring than most mega man games, The story presentation is abysmal, with static characters whose mouths don't move and no facial expressions. You can barely hear the music. The special weapons are uninspired. The controls can be cumbersome and sloppy, particularly the weapon switching. The game is fun, but it should have been so much better considering the pedigree.

Just finished the game. it's definitely not a bad one and obviously not a masterpiece

+ fun gameplay and dash ability is great never gets old
+ cool boss fights imo
+ loved boss forms/abilities
+ good soundtrack

- level design feels rushed and bland
- cheap shit in the levels that leads to cheap deaths

good 7/10 game for me.

Going with this. It's definitely not up there with the best of Mega Man, or even second best as it were, and it has some really dumb issues like Countershade's stage and the low music (when music was a large appeal and even a stretch goal!), but it's still a fun game that scratches that sort of itch.

And there's been worse than Countershade's stage admittedly. Ninja Gaiden 1's endgame, anyone? At least Countershade's stage does what's appropriate (checkpoint at the boss) versus being actively antagonistic (died at the boss? WAY WAY FURTHER BACK than if you just died right before the boss! Right to the start of the final level actually!)

That's where I'm at. I see the flaws, but they're not severe enough to distract from my enjoyment of the game. It's no Mega Man 9, but it's as good as some of the lesser Mega Man games. And that's still preddy gud imo.

Turn down the SFX and the voices down to below half, and music to max. Thats the only solution i've got. Unfortunately MN9 isnt the only game this generation to have a low music volume mix.
Yeah this is a real problem.

One of the better things in MN9 is the soundtrack, especially the retro music, and it mostly gets muffled by the very high volume in comparison of the voices and sound effects. I already turned down tbem down below half and the music is still very low. I don't know what the hell happened here how could they overlook this.

So far this game is not as bad as many have said. It's definitely not a 4-5 score. I'd say it's a 6 or a 7. A very dissapointing 6 or 7 compared to what I expected but not a "bad" 4 or 5.

Anyone saying they'd rather be playing instead, say, Megaman X7 or X8 is flat out lying or hasn't played MN9.

And it's not a Megaman.
I love the controls in this more than Megaman to. It's much more fast paced and I love the dashing technique.

Money + dramatic kickstarter drama = people blowing shit wayyyyyy out of proportion. There is a good foundation set here. Should it have been better? Def. Is it the worst game ever, not even close. It's a game that mostly got more enjoyable the further I played. It just has some warts.

I find it hilarious that it won't render in fullscreen mode on my VR beast rig. I have to play it in a tiny window.

Trying to shoot too many releases at once gimped the release IMO.

Also, not feeling the boss designs at all. Feels really rushed and sloppy, despite being in dev for years. Blows my mind. Sad too.

Yeah, no.

I've played it.
You honestly like Megaman X7 more than MN9? Like would you cross your heart and hope to die? You're that sure?

I feel the responsibility of reminding you X7 was the first PS2 Megaman X game. The one with Axel and Megamn not being playable until near the end of the game and can be missed. The one with horrible pseudo 3D stages. That one you like more than MN9?

More? Perhaps not. But I don't think MN9 is far and away better.

I actually still think X7 is easier on the eyes. I also didn't really see the issue with X not being playable except for the poor way they shoehorned him in.

Not digging through all his posts, but MMX8 IS listed there too. That was a return to traditional design so I can buy that one from what I know of it.

Well let my opinion be heard: Mighty No. 9 is far and away better than Megaman X7. It is known.

I think both X7 and X8 are atrocious but X8 was less awful so I'm concentrating more on the statement that MN9 is not clearly better than X7.... because it is guys I mean c'mon!

And that's fine, but with X8 being a return to form I don't really see why it's hard to believe someone would like it more than MN9.

Not every stage was a gem, but with things like No. 1 and No. 8's levels sitting in MN9 I wouldn't be putting it on a pedestal.

I've never called MN9 a bad game either. I've called it a mediocre one with glaring technical issues and poorly thought out mechanics, but with decent ideas. I think that puts it about on par with X7.

Got to the final level...I need a break I just can't I'm not enjoying this. The level design is what's pissing me off the most. Add to that I probably skipped every cut scene after mighty no.2 because the voice acting isn't doing it for me(why was this added). It's not fun to me. This was my entry barrier to the megaman series(yes yes I never played one fully before) it's turned me off alil

Don't know if mentioned or not but you can just copy the save over from the DRM free version tot he steam version. Also means you can just share save files if you want to do that.

Anyway, finished the game. Not bad but not great. Very middling. The potential is there and there are some fun bits and the dash stuff is kinda cool but I feel the biggest failing is in level design which ranges from "oh, ok" to "this is some terrible shit".

That's like saying my entry point to Batman films was Batman & Robin so now I'll never even try and watch The Dark Knight.

Any classic Megaman game is better than MN9. Many are vastly better.

Don't skip Super Mario Bros. 3 because you didn't like Bubsy. Please.

The code that came with my physical PS4 copy is is allowing me to download the full PS4 digital copy. That isn't what they intended right? I might just trade in my used physical copy after I see if this works.

Played some more

+I like how much personality the cast has, esepcially the Numbers. I don't understand the issue people have with the VA or writing. It's Saturday Morning Cartoon tier but, for the most part, its good SMC stuff. PEW PEW PEW PEW!

+When you can actually get a good dash chain going and feel the boosts, moving around feels quick and fun.

-I figured as much before I even touched the game but playing it just confirmed it - I would have much preferred the wall-cling mechanic of the X/Zero over the ledge grab mechanic of this game.

-The dash mechanic does hurt the level design, no doubts about it

-I've can't remember the last time I played a fully finished game that has had as many random frame drops and stutters as this game :/

-Spike placement can be kind of bullshit due in part to them sometimes being put in places you can't see very well and thus they will almost 100% get you on your first run-throughs.

Just finished it.

And oh surprise! People were overreacting! Had a blast with this game, and holy shit does it provide a good challenge! Movement and character control are precise and fast, level design is quite good except for a couple of examples, designs are colorful and memorable, and voice acting is cheesy in just the way you would expect.

My only issue is the Countershade level which is just plain boring and tedious. But everything else was pretty good. I really felt I was playing a Mega Man game and this is coming from one of the biggest MM fans in GAF.

A solid 8/10 from me.

Too bad it probably won't get a sequel, it could improve on the flaws of the original. But as always, negativity is louder.

Oh man hard mode is fun. Having all the weapons unlocked from the beginning seemed like an odd move but since the enemies are faster it seems mainly pointless to use the default weapon - I'm using the cluster bomb, slash claws and freeze shot (I forget the actual names) and I've not needed to use any other weapons. The freeze shot is brilliant for the stage enemies (fast paced, decent range, decent damage, freezes enemies so you have plenty of time to dash combo through them.

The faster pace was an eye opener on the first level, but I've gotten things down well now. However MN5's level have a couple of really annoying bits that seemed ill thought out (as does the very end of MN2's level) but otherwise I've had no issues clearing the levels (I've finished the main 8 bosses, just got the "fortress levels" left.

Boss fights are really fun as well - MN7's fight being my favourite of the bunch - its a really fast paced battle that requires precision, especially his multi slash attack which is really sped up compared to normal mode (but bizarrely, due to it being faster makes it easier to dodge!). Really the only annoying bosses I found were 2 and 6. 2 because if you mess up and get frozen you'll be taken loads of damage, 6 is probably just my least favourite boss battle personally. 3 isn't great if you use the weapon she's weak to, as the fight is over before its really began.

Definitely liking this the more I'm playing, I was enjoying the game to begin with but now I'm starting to love it. I still stand by the game being quite rough round the edges and has issues, but I don't think its a bad game by any stretch of the imagination.

how is Dynatron strong against Countershade? I tried her form, but it made the boss harder for me -__-

Fuck me but I really enjoyed Aviator's stage, personality and boss fight as well as
Call's Stage.
A fun challenge all around. The game has its problems but it's starting to click.

People have been overreacting. Had this game not be a Kickstarter it would've been in the 70s on Metacritic and not 50s.

I'm having a lot of fun with that game. People truly are overreacting negatively...
Solid game, not perfect, but still one of the best I played this year. My expectations are met. Except for some attrocious framedrops in some places even on PS4.

Give me one of reason why the Co-op Challenge mode couldn't be played locally, Inafune! The screen still follows the first player even though it's online! I'd expect that from a local co-op match but not while online.

I give it two months before finding an online partner becomes next to impossible. One month if you're playing on 360 or PS3.

Yeah, no shit! First time I'm hearing this version since I played it with retro music (which was also kickass!).

Cmon guys. This game might be an 8 (we'll see how it ends) but at least a solid 7. It's not a 5 for Pete's sake.

Yep, definitely. I rank it an 8 myself. I had tons of fun with the game, and loved the challenge. I only had very few spots where I felt the game was being cheap/unfair. Other than that, every time I died it was my own fault.

I also played using the retro soundtrack. Too bad the volume mixing is kind of bad and the music is way too low.

Today I got stuck on geometry while dashing and killed since I couldn't move, and saw the same thing happen to an enemy. Definitely not a 7.

Yeah I know.;)

I actually had the music volume all the way up and the SFX volume to less than half, and I still found the volume to be too low for the music.

That's too bad. I never had a single instance where I got stuck in geometry. PS4 version here.
