Resident Evil 5 releasing June 28th on PS4/XB1

Pretty sure the intro was always fmv - at least the parts in the car certainly were.

Fuck me, you're right.

I must have watched it a million times and never noticed.

This new port does run that scene weirdly though, with frame skips and wobbly resolution since it's a 720p video put through a 1080p filter. It doesn't look good.

Otherwise, the port is absolutely fine so far.

Does the scene runs at least better than the PS3/360 versions?

So now that it is out and people can verify.

Does PS4 splitscreen work like 360 now or is it still the shitty PS3 style, where only one person can play on their profile and unlock weapons/trophies/progression, because the co-op partner is just a guest?

My wife and I want to play through again in splitscreen, but whereas 360 let us play with one system and both profiles, on PS3 it required us to have two PS3's and play online co-op to get the full experience for both our profiles.

Didn't get a response before, so can anyone confirm this for me?

Can two profiles be used in splitscreen co-op on PS4 or is it still 1 profile and a guest?

I play co-op Diablo 3 w/ my spouse and it has us both individually log into our separate PSN accounts -- I don't see how it would be any different here. When you turn on a second controller it drops them immediately into the profile sign-in screen.

You would think that, but Sony doesn't see it that way. On Xbox that is a universal thing, but on Playstation it is game by game.

Resident Evil Rev 2 for instance, only lets 1 profile play, while the other player is just a guest, even if both are signed in to their respective profiles. My wife and I played all the way through Rev 2 and only she got progression/unlocks/trophies. The PS4 treats it as though I never even played the game.

No, it really stood out and made a bad first impression. I say that as someone who regularly plays the 360 version, which is the best console version. I've never played the PC version.

Apart from that one scene though, it's a huge, huge improvement so far over the console versions.

Its been a long time since I played this game. Absolutely loved it on 360 though. My only gripe was dealing with healing/giving ammo to my AI partner. I might be remembering it in a harsher way than it actually is/was, but that got really annoying. Hope I am wrong though, as I will probably end up picking this up.

Can you preorder the digital version? I'm on the NA PS store and using search, I only see RE5 Gold Edition for PS Now.

Funny since I have 2 friends now telling me the scene runs fine and it's the same as the PC version.

I don't know what to believe anymore.

Does anyone know if playing as sheva defaults the camera to being over the left shoulder like it did in the ps3 version?

I hated this so much. Made everything feel backwards and as much as i wanted to play sheva i never did because of it.

I would love to know this too, not sure if I should go PS4 or Xbone for this one, need to have separate accounts for me and my wife.

OK so I quickly checked out Merca. Yep. It's a mess. There is no standard mercenaries. So now the tier list needs to be updated and my main (BSAA Chris) is irrelevant since he cannot handle the enemies.
Clubbin Sheva still the worst in the game.

It's everything you feared folks. Also, they changed Chris's timer break. It used to be hook but now they changed it to his kick? What is going on?

Mercenaries United uses Mercenary Reunion enemy spawning as well as the Reunion scoring system. In Reunion you have to boss hold as well as keep the full combo to maximize your score.

Huge disappointment among the Mercenary community today that the original mode is not in.

Gross. I never played Reunion, because you couldn't use Wesker in that mode.

One reason (and I have a few) I prefer 5 over 4 is that, and like fucking nobody agrees with this, but I think 4 outstays its welcome quite a bit. It's an amazing game and incredibly well designed, and people often praise its pacing-- but I really think it could have been a lot shorter. 5's story still feels pretty long but without not knowing when to stop. RE4 just gets way too indulgent as it goes; none of it is really bad and I can see where some would disagree with me because of that, but I personally think it could have been a lot tighter and I don't feel that way about 5.

I remember the most intriguing thing about 5 when it was announced that it was going to be set in a broad daylight setting and they would play around with horror aspects related to the lighting and feeling more exposed; I don't think that fully made it into the game proper, but I still really dug the sunlit African setting and loved the sense of impending doom as the sun began to set. I thought that was incredibly beautiful but also an instilling of dread.

RE4 had great pacing for a long ass game...my very first playthrough on the GCN was 24 hours and its rare that a game can hold my attention that long. Part of it was because I had no expectations going into the game and didnt read up on videogames on the internet at the time so my only exposure was the marketing which only showed the village. So I thought once I fought the Chief of the village the game was near the end. Didnt realize that was only 20% through the game.

No doubt. It's not as though I really dislike anything that's there, but the older I get, the more I appreciate super tight pacing. RE4 had so many scenarios and enemy encounters and they're all pretty great and very well done, but yet I still cannot help but feel like it could have been a much tighter experience.

For me, I just didn't really think going to that island for the climax was necessary. The island had some really fantastic shit, such as the Regenerators obviously, but I thought that as well as the general climax, standoff with Krauser, Salazar and Saddler could have all taken place at the castle or at least that huge tower. I thought the tower felt very climactic, like it was building toward the finale, and it did end with the Salazar battle, but again I think all the island stuff could have just been there or spread out within the castle/tower.

Again it's not bad obviously, RE4 is one of the greatest games ever and I don't really hold the pacing or how long it is against it per se, but RE5 for me definitely had a better sense of pacing and placement. For what it's worth, even other games I consider to be absolutely incredible also have pacing issues for me; Uncharted 4 immediately comes to mind. I like pretty much everything in Uncharted 4, but I still felt like a good 3-4 hours could have been cut or reshuffled to the same effect, only far more efficiently, and Resident Evil isn't really a series where I need them to be more than say 10 hours or so.

What feels awesome to me are the first three games; the first time you go through them can take a while because you're learning yourself around the environments, puzzles, yadda yadda. Yet when you know what you're doing, they move pretty damn quick. I hope RE7 brings this back.

Yeah if it isn't up now the only other possible time is Midnight PST but I wouldn't hold my breath. It'll probably go up in the afternoon. Don't know why PSN is still like this.

Looking great, couldn't find anything wrong with it in the first 10 minutes. Where are the drops? The intro looks fine too.

I think we need to play it and see it for ourselves to detect the frame pacing/skip issues that has been brought up here. Or just wait for the industry pros aka Digital Foundry with their ever interesting Frame Rate analysis video

Resident Evil 5 |OT| I had no idea people liked this game

This is the biggest surprise to me! It's a fine action game - never knew anyone thought it was even in the conversation of being an OK Resident Evil.

I'm dealing with the new information and will process this information soon.

I think it's funny that after like five (maybe more?) action games in the series, some people still don't consider them to be true Resident Evil titles.

Yeah, it's weird. The problem isn't the action genre, the problem is when the game is just overall super terrible like in Resident Evil 6. 5 isn't even close to super terrible, it's just not near-perfect like 4 was.

Resident Evil 5 and 6 are not like RE 1-4 & Code Veronica.
I would say 5 is much closer to 4 than 4 is to any of those other games. 4 introduced cheesy action lines, banter between various buddy pairings, intelligent basically human enemies, all that stuff.

Mean the consensus isn't that anything true or close to the purpose was lost without Mikami and original teams? Where I've always been with it.
