Xbox Play Anywhere |OT| - Have you found Phil's Loophole?

Because people could just buy a retail copy, register the code on PC, and sell the retail copy immediately and basically get the game for nothing. Likewise, they could just sell the code to someone else.

Ahh, I feel stupid for not realising that >.<

That's probably something I would do as well haha.

How else would they do it?.

like this.
Not good business though.

How does PA work for Killer Instinct? The PA site lists Killer Instinct Season 3.

Will I have access to my season 1 and 2 characters? Is purchasing Season 3 required? I don't own it yet.

You can play it now for free (1 character), it's in the Windows Store. Buying characters/seasons unlocks those characters for your account between the Xbox One and PC.

you got your Season 1 and 2 characters and nope you dont have to get Season 3

I think, and this is specifically for KI, you might have to have logged in on the Xbox at least once since the release of Season 3 to properly migrate your save to work with Play Anywhere, but you'll have access to all the content that you bought

Thanks. Need to check this out.

Wait, what? I thought Dead Rising 4 WAS Play Anywhere. Is that list supposed to reference Dead Rising 3, maybe? Or is it specifically talking about the later Steam version of DR4?

Most will, where it matters.
For things like co-op, you'll get it easy, because who cares who's using what, you're all on the same team.
For matchmaking in things like KI, theres a pretty even playing field as long as you meet the FPS limit
For things like matchmaking in shooters like Gears, thats where it gets iffy and I think they are implementing systems that look at player input and match them together, but right now its not ready yet
You dont want another Shadowrun situation lol, its really up to the devs to judge what works best

Phil said it will always be the user choice. You'll be able to filter by the same input as you, or if even in a competition mode you don't care you can have that choice as well.

One thing to notice is that he never mentioned platform switch, so I think that when they allow m/k on xbox for instance, it would be based on input and not platform.

With Scorpio coming out, I'm hoping we get games like Warhammer and Pillars of Eternity coming to the store.

I know that's what I meant. Would getting a code of Sea of Thieves get the Play Anywhere unlocked? Is it literally any digital version?

Id' imagine that would be the case, for a play anywhere title it will show on your account that you own it and allow you to download it to an appropriate device.

100% digital on all my games now

Xbox play anywhere makes me a happy bunny indeed

Just need to get third parties on board

I sure as hell hope you are joking...

So you buy a physical copy of game on xbox, get the digital PC copy, and then sell the Xbox physical copy....

How does that make sense for MS?

Theres the rub! My games will therefore not be entirely free. Fuck off microsoft.

Cant wait. Now I can split costs with my brother as he only games on XB1 and I tend to now only game on PC.

Still not sure both will be playable at the same time. It will technically be, the same "serial" on the game.

In fact, i expect both games to only be played one at a time. Or else it would mean your buying 2 different copies of the game.

Why is that not good business? Many physical movies also come with download codes.
It increases my likelihood of buying media.

Changes are also much larger that if you buy a movie you want to keep it since there are usually many more ways to watch it other than buying a copy of it.

Owning a digital game on pc and console is great, it's just nice to know you own that other copy for the time where you may need it (new pc, new console, away from either one for some time, etc)

They need to change that icon. For the love of everything good, Microsoft, stop representing PC gaming with netbooks. You did it in the KI trailer and it made me peeved to no end.

A laptop isn't necessarily a netbook. Also it's more recognizable than a desktop "tower".
Also it should be expected that laptops and hybrid tablets will progressively become a major form factor for PC.

"Play Anywhere*"

*your definition of anywhere may vary from ours

Streaming is definitely part of this too. Not only in house streaming but cloud based too. So I can see them expanding it to phones and tablets as well.

But technically they are correct, if you consider a laptop, and where being a location and not a device :p

It fits in with the whole "Play Anywhere" name.

-Tablets
-Desktops
-Laptops
-Windows 10 Portables (like that Chinese one that's coming out)

You can go anywhere and keep playing your Xbox games.

I think this Play Anywhere program is one of the best things MS has ever done for gaming.

That I can now play a game like Forza Horizon 3 on a PC and get access to all these crazy resolutions and performance, is great.

Its that or not getting it at all.

I have been fine without Microsoft games until now, and it will continue.
There are better games, in a better store and with better prices.

Microsoft seems to have no idea of the Market and their position in it. Even EA with Origin offers better prices. EA

Pricing it better on PC means theyll have to price it better on consoles too. Its one store for all games. MS dont want that.

True. I'm not paying those prices now or ever.

Is Rise of the Tomb Raider cross save between Xbox One and the Windows store version? I have some pretty solid progress in the Xbox One version that I rented and i'm thinking of picking it up on the Windows sale to finish it. Looks like the Steam version lacks Live support.

Still an open question that needs answered:

Can a family member play a Play-Anywhere title on the xbox, logged in as them (just like they can play my games I bought under my xbox live account)?

If Yes, what happens when I play that same game on my PC while they are playing on console?

Search the NeoGAF BST thread for Quantum Break.

With codes people would basically buy the physical, redeem the digital, then resell the physical. (or vice versa)

Movies are cheaper and most people aren't going to bother buying a disc to flip just for the code. Some might flip the code for $5 or just give it away like you see here on GAF, but it's not a lucrative market like game codes.

Even retail sellers seem to top out at $5 for a single movie code.

I wonder if they can retroactively make the earlier Win10 games play anywhere. Surely they have that ability.

I shouldn't have to pay twice.

I love the idea of this.

I don't have a suitable PC/laptop to natively play games, do we ever think that off network streaming will come?

That would do me perfectly on a Surface. Otherwise, I may look into a decent gaming laptop that can play these games at the equivalent to Xbox One resolution/graphics.

if you are using the same log in it wont work, if the xbox is the home xbox or whatever its called you can use a different log in. that's how killer instinct works

For Rise of the Tomb Raider, both saves and DLC are separate and not compatible between XB1/Win10
