Xbox One S: 40% smaller, 2TB, 4K for movies/tv, internal PSU, $300

What? It's 40% smaller with inclusion of power brick. That's gonna be unattainable without some kinda of shrink. Almost 3 years and no shrink? What kinda electronic device is that.

You haven't seen a regular Xbox One from the inside. Check out some pics and you will see just how much dead space there is.

Oh wow, Gamestop values the 500gb X1 for 200€ if you pre-order the S

That ain't half bad considering the fact that selling an X1 in Italy ain't that easy...might get it there instead of Amazon

Does anyone know yet if this thing will come in black? I don't want a white console next to all my other black equipment and black shelf!

Going to wait for Scorpio now.
Haven't bought a xbone yet (PS4 has been enough) and was thinking about getting an S, but Scorpio should be backwards compatible, I think.

Any news on this?

4K TVs need an updated ARC spec for HDMI to be able to send bitstream 5.1/7.1 and/or DTS-MA and True HD back down to a receiver. It'll take a while before people have 4k enabled receivers and not many players will have twin HDMI outs just for audio.

Whether Xbox 1 games will run on Scorpio?

That's the goal.

Given the power of the Scorpio, should it be considered a refresh of the Xbox One, or are we looking at, actually, the next-generation of what you are doing in terms of console? Is that actually the fair assessment of it?

Phil Spencer: That fact that when you buy an Xbox One and start creating your game library and when you buy Scorpio those games and accessories and everything are going to run, make it feel like part of the Xbox One family to me. That's why we communicate it that way. That was also part of the design point of the box.

I'm confused, so this means no Atmos or TrueHD at all? So much for using the excuse as a 4k bluray player to pick this up :( Will continue on with my PC.

This would be something they could add with an update, though. Bitstreaming is just passing through a signal for the receiver to decode. PS4 does this already. Hopefully it gets added soon.

Wow, I may go ahead and bite despite Scorpio if that is/becomes a deal in the US.

same. I have $200 in gamestop credit and a good trade in deal would more or less guarantee me getting this...

... i kind of also need to put my money where my mouth is because I told my friend that i will buy whichever system gives me a 4k bluray player first...

also, have we heard anything about a release date? Are we expecting them to announce at gamescon (Aug 18th i think) that it is available "right now"?

So still no word on when the 1tb and 500gb versions come out? I preordered a 500gb one, hopefully it comes before the December 31st placeholder date...

It's definitely before FH3 hits due to HDR, but I presume it will be much sooner than that still. I have no idea what the hell they are doing not giving us a date for the $299 they plastered on stage.

Hint: they want you to buy the $399 one.

They still haven't confirmed the 2tb release date and it comes out next month! I hope it is the 2nd.

I'll be pissed if the 1TB or 500GB models are black. I'll literally package the console up and get rid of it that day. I'm only upgrading because of the UHD player.

Question: Does the console come with the adapter for Kinect?

I thought that there were only white models confirmed. Where did you see a black model?

If you plan on sending for the kinect adapter it's important to remember that you will need the seriel number off your old Xbox One.

And all of them have one thing in common. HDR is not available in game mode. Gaming in non-game mode is not very enjoyable on any new TV.

That's disappointing. My Pioneer Plasma looks great in calibrated mode (not game-mode). But plasmas always have really good refresh rates.

Vizio allows for "Game Mode" on any of their inputs. On top of that, at least with the P-Series, there is an input that provides lower latency than the others.

Did you try this out yourself? I have read otherwise. There are certain restrictions because of the HDMI 2.0 spec (HDR, 4k, 60fps, 10bit only at 4:2:2) but HDR and game mode are not seperate. You will lose all the post-processing options of course.
I've also read a lot of forum panicking about this but none of it seems backed up or actually tested.

Sorry if it has been asked before but it is not explained in the OP. What exactly makes the new (?) controller a "streamlined" one?

This is my concern regarding hdr also. Every 4k tv ive came across switchs to a specific hdr mode when hdr content is detected on the display. Its not something you can just switch on in a certain mode. Most tvs' in game mode are around the mid 30's for input lag but anything outside that and it doubles easily which is going to make hdr gaming not an option. Ive never actually seen an input lag test on an hdr input however I very much doubt its going to be anywhere near what a game mode can achieve

Ugh. Fucking tv's are at it again. Somebody needs to regulate this fucking industry to adopt common language. Setting up and calibrating a tv for a tech dummy is near impossible. Everything from RGB, colorcrange, overscan \ just scan dot by dot, picture fit etc.

LG supports Dolby Vision too. Seems like a far more consumer friendly HDR standard for now. Too bad not more support is given to DV right now.

Yes. I've tested this myself and hdtvtest.co.uk did too.

Not exactly sure on the details, but from what we've heard so far:

- Controller Wireless Range: Up to twice the maximum distance from Xbox One S, unclear if it has any effect with the regular Xbox.
- Bluetooth mode for using wirelessly with Windows 10
- Different sculpt on the analog sticks, which MS claims is "more durable"
- The sculpt of the controller casing is subtly different now - in particular the infrared casing around the "Xbox" button is now part of the frame rather than a seperate piece. I imagine the infrared sensor is now only visible from the back end of the controller.
- The "Xbox" button is now just white and black plastic, hard to say if it works any differently. Looks thinner.

Vizio & LG offer tv's that have BOTH HDR10 and Dolby Vision after firmware updates. The Vizio P series is to be updated in August.

For some TVs game mode is nothing more than a quick switch do disable all post-processing, which can be manually disabled as well.

So not being in gaming mode isn't necessarily worse. It'll depend on what HDR does, and seeing how HDR is all about forcing the directors view I doubt that TVs will use a lot of post-processing (if at all) when showing HDR content.
