You are not the only one smiling. I think these guys are about to start a phenomenon with this game. It's the coolest app I've used in so long.
might just be me but it feels like they've released very, very little information on game mechanics/tips/tutorial/etc.
the in game tips are pretty useless
i mean, why did i have to go online and do a google search to find out what the different foot prints under the pokemon on the 'nearby' screen mean

also, i havent played pokemon since red/blue...how do i know which moves are better than others?
Nah, in fact i personally ran into a classmate who was also doing the same thing, while commuting to morning lecture. Had a nice chat, and caught a few pokemon along the way; i really don't see why you should be embarrassed, when everyone and their mother is probably doing the same thing.
Caught a Dratini and 405 Pinsir today! Also have the girlfriend hooked. We went to the community college at 8PM and ran into two other couples going around too.
My question is, how exactly am I supposed to get Dratini to evolve if I can never find them? It seems like the game is very biased towards basic Pidgy and Ratatta. Plus, my only two fire types are starting Charmander and an egg Ponyta.

huh? i live in LA county and while i haven't seen people playing in person, i've seen tons of pokespots with lures that have been used and the control of gyms is constantly changing
clearly shows there are tons of people playing

Where in LA county? I'm in Los Feliz/Silverlake and haven't seen any lit up Pokespots, or anyone playing it in general.

It was this very afternoon! Well, morning for that one old fellow similarly equipped with phone outstretched that caught me struggling to pick up a sandshrew.
Going to be Articuno first legendary event baby.

Well, they are supposed to be common fodder. Technically you can find any pokemon in the wild, excluding legendaries, unless i'm wrong. You'll just have to hope you find a wild dragonair/dragonite or search nearby where you found your first dratini.

Used an incense and have still yet to see anything for 15mins now in my house. There is a ghastly outside somewhere but it's midnight so it will have to wait.
Spent about 90 minutes around my neighborhood with my fiancé. I think we saw about 10-15 other people in the area doing the exact same thing.
It was a super fun experience and got us walking way longer than we would have otherwise. Looking forward to exploring town more and some other areas in Orange County. There's a big outdoor mall in Irvine that I'm hoping will have some good activity when we're over there this weekend.

Had a 78 Ratata with Hyper Fang that evolved into a 65 Raticate with dig. Evolved another Ratata that had 32 CP and body slam into a pretty cool 282 Raticate with Hyper Beam.

There's a busstop outside my office that resets for me every 2-3 minutes. I got pokeballs flowing outta my pokearse.
Studio City, i've seen most activity on Ventura Blvd
only started playing today so haven't really explored much elsewhere but ventura blvd is literally lined with pokespots, gyms, and pokemon
dont think ventura runs thru silverlake tho...but i think colorado does? i'd imagine there would be lots of activity on colorado

i explained the general conceit of the game to my dad and he thought it was really cool and went around checking shit out with me today. my dad's about the most gaming/tech phobic person ever. if it has any staying power it's going to be a sensation.

So I just found out that my wife has a secret love for Pokemon. I mentioned the game in passing earlier today and when we both got home from work I was going to show her the map and how it interacted with the neighborhood (we have spots and gyms all over around us)...
Turns out she already had it downloaded...I knew she always had a soft spot for Pokemon but shes never taken a single interest in games since I've known her. This is seriously amazing.

Got an improved run today.
Caught an Eevee after a nap to hit level 5 and went for a walk. Caught plenty of Ekans so I may be close to evolving soon. Also caught a few powerful Growlithe, Mankey, Zubat, and even a Machop and Sandshrew. Had an egg and it eventually hatched into a Pikachu.
The most frustrating thing so far is the gyms. Not because I would lose to some tough Pokémon, but when I do win, I'm stuck. Like, nothing happens. And I'm forced to restart and it doesn't count. And sometimes when I try again, there's a glitch, I think, that fails to start the battle.
One win did register so I placed one of my Growlithe to take over. Sadly, it looked like it was kicked out a few minutes after.
I wanted to choose Valor because RED, but Mystic has Articuno, my favorite legendary bird, so... yeah.

I haven't seen a single yellow gym so far. It's the classic Red vs Blue in my part of Brooklyn.

I'm using the American version in Japan and no Pokemon show up at all. No poke stops or gyms either. It's completely barren.

I'm assuming when three or more gyms reach a certain level and are linked somehow you create an area of control. Sort of like Ingress.

I'm in Malaysia at this moment and there are no pokémon here. Anyone else having this problem or is it just me?
They didn't flip the switch for most of the world yet. Seems only available in UK, US, and Australia. You can still download the game in other regions, but nothing shows up.
Basically the Japan map is "offline", so nothing will show up until they release the app here.
seriously considering getting an android device if there's still no go after this weekend. My iPhone 5s is dying anyways.

There's a park near my house. 3 gyms there. A guy named 'TheDaxter' on blue team controls all 3 gyms. A growlithe, a Graveler, and a Raticate.
My friend and i beat down the gyms until there's only 500 points left out of 6000 or whatever. One more victory and we should own this thing.
But on all 3 gyms we get the last pokemon to 1 sliver of HP and hit it with dozens of attacks and nothing happens. Time runs out and we lose.
Wtf??

i had a similar issue, i think it was due to the servers/connection
was attacking for like 20 mins and did 0 dmg
