The point, felt but not grasped, was simply that the fellowship was ending . . it was ending and they were still in the dark. That Other had, through their friendship, perhaps been able to make the something more than children. But they were becoming children again. Bill felt it as much as the others.
So yeah. The sex thing was odd, but it was the Other (the Turtle) who either stopped giving them strength, or was unable to, once Pennywise was defeated for the first time. Kind of makes him seem like an asshole who abandoned them.
Of course there's no subtlety there, he was getting ready to eat one of the kids. They taste better when they're afraid.
My fear is that this is going to be fan service to all of those that are terrified of the Tim Curry version. In the book Bob Gray/Pennywise isn't in clown form often. In fact, the only time I recall him killing anyone as the clown is when he kills
Georgie and when the town locals throw the gay man off the bridge. Eye witnesses reported a clown dragging the body out of the water and biting in to it.
Ben sees him as a clown when he's coming home from school, and Ritchie and Bill see him in the picture book. The only other clown sighting that I can remember is part of Derry's history where
the town ambushes some thieves. Someone reported a clown leaning unnaturally far out of a window shooting at them.
Outside of that, he's:
a vampire, a werewolf, the crawling eye, creature from the black lagoon, the leper, leeches, a mummy, frankenstein's monster, hansel and gretel's witch, a massive bird, and his arachnid form from "Todash" space which is the tie in to the Dark Tower series
. If he appears/kills as the clown in the book any other times than that, I'm not remembering it. It's been a while since I've read the book.
The old miniseries did a pretty decent job adapting the material (mostly thanks to Curry's performance), but I just don't know if IT can really be effectively converted into a film. Not just because of the 12 year-old orgy, but because of that languid childhood summertime pacing, mixed with the history of the town, the adults slowly recalling what they are even doing and the slow, underlying atmosphere of dread. Someone might be able to pull it off in one movie, but it seems like a really difficult task.

I got a Pennywise mask and shoes last Halloween. Was going to dress up to hand out candy. I decided not to at the last minute, I was worried about a parent trying to beat me up.
This thread is the defintion of nostalgia/rose tinted glasses. Honestly I get it, because the movie is unsettling in certain ways... but it really only seems way more scary, because you associate those feelings you get now to how you felt when you first saw it. There definitely are a few creepy shots here and there, but for the most part, IT is a cheesy monster movie.
Really he's meant to look much safer. This version of the monster is meant to be friendly and lure the kids into a sense of security, which then reveals something more horrifying as it feeds on them.
I really hope they dive into the idea that the whole town is essentially infected with this being, making the town blind to the horror that occurs in the town at a hugely disproportionate rate. That concept, of being a child and literally having no-one to turn to and nowhere to run was always the most terrifying part of the book to me.
Thinking about this as I reread all the responses it makes me laugh that the flashes of Curry in my mind in this roll are almost all his more jubilant and "clowny" attitude.
Getting George into the sewer... he almost looks like sympathetic and sweet for a moment. When he's all "oh Georgie.... Yes. They all float down here..." with that adult talking to an innocent kid quiver to his lips...

just... so much LIFE and character to his portrayal. Tim Curry is just a force in front of the camera. Amazing. I love it.
This is what I referenced in the other thread as what would've been an "edgy reboot" had Pennywise looked like Twisty. That kind of thinking is soooo..... 00s. We're past that, thank goodness(well, MOSTLY past that)!

So far it looks like they have the odd shaped head and they changed his makeup around.
Honestly, what will make or break is how menacing he actually is, which is something I'm not entirely sure anyone but Tim Curry could capture but I am willing to keep an open mind.
That would've been terrible. Absolutely no subtlety in the slightest. The first photo they revealed was bad but if they would've gone the Twisty route it would've been atrocious.
Nah. Look at the various gifs in this thread. That's what I'm talking about. This clown has no subtlety to it. It doesn't look friendly one moment and evil the next. It looks like a lowest common denominator watered down not too frightening clown to me (even with painted on angry expression). No effort generic all around. Seems as if they want to make Pennywise good looking and non offensive. I call this the mass appeal pg-13 effect.
You're basing this off of one close still shot from a magazine dude. We can look at gifs of the old one all day long but the new one has no gifs to compare it to.. maybe reserve judgment for the final product?

Not true. While King has definitely wrote some very questionable stuff about race, in that scene was Ben. Which was also creepy in its own way because he mooned over Bev the whole time who had a crush on Bill, and that was the first time she really noticed him.
