Countdowns

Nintendo's FY 2016 First Quarter Earnings Release

After 15:15 JST, July 27

This actually counts down to the closing auction (15:15 JST) of JPX's day session: http://www.jpx.co.jp/english/derivatives/rules/trading-hours/

I am not sure when Nintendo usually publishes its earnings releases, but it is bound to be after the market closes anyway.

Nintendo's FY 2016 First Quarter Earnings News Conference

Tentative. Suggested 16:00 JST, July 27.

When a tentative news conference will begin I don't know, but the FY 2015 Third Quarter Earnings News Conference on February 2, 2016, appears to have begun 16:00 JST. At least I am bound to believe that due to this image:

newsconferencer7s8r.png

In close proximity to the time of earnings release anyhow. If it happens.

Nintendo's FY 2016 First Quarter Financial Results Briefing

Tentative. 10:00 JST, July 28.

Now, Nintendo hasn't had a briefing for its first quarter earnings since July 29, 2011, and that wasn't even a regular briefing (there was a Q&A however). I am including this here just for the very slim chance of a briefing actually happening.

Thanks, Rosti !

Well for what it's worth Nvidia is supposed to be doing the reveal of the next Tegra (Parker) near the end of August, so that might explain why some NX info could be leaking out soon.

𝙽𝚒𝚗𝚝𝚎𝚗𝚍𝚘 𝙲𝚘., 𝙻𝚝𝚍. (Japan) will be closed between 𝒜𝓊ℊ 𝟏𝟎-𝟏𝟔, also on 𝒜𝓊ℊ 𝟐𝟔 due to Golden Week(s) (ゴールデンウィーク), I have been told. Therefore announcements on upcoming products and services ought to not be expected on those dates. NoA will remain open though.

Could you edit this post? The dates are absent :p

A handheld and a console sounds about right.
Console - high end, expensive
Handheld - lower specs, affordable

Both share the same library, medium and network.

They calling about the gimmick is expensive.
Having a console which include also a handheld isnt related to the new gimmick.

So it has to be something unique. Something that drag the mainstream.

What if the console and handheld... come packaged together?

You heard it here first ladies and gentleman. I may not have any inside information like at all so don't take it like I do but at least I'm more credible than 10k and Ideaman, and Emily Rogers and that fictional video game character who has a Gaf account combined. Combined.

Nvidia in the handheld, AMD in the console shouldn't be a problem since they can both use the Vulkan API.

I expect both systems to use ARM CPUs. Probably quad core in the handheld and 8 core in the console with higher clockspeed,

I wouldn't worry about the console not using x86. 8 of the newer ARM cores at 2+ GHz should have no trouble beating the 8-core Jaguar in PS4 and XBone, Probably even the 2.1 GHz version in Neo.

I'm just guessing that's true, if I'm wrong oh well.

I would be down to taking a handheld and home consoles in one package. Nintendo might date their NX presentation day tomorrow, as they did show their E3-plans in March.

I'm hopefull.

Wow, this thread has exploded. Too bad that it did that with a bit of hyperbole and some Emily bashing. If you don't trust Emily you could just wait some days until the story will be published (or not, in your opinion) on some major website, no need to pollute the discussion with this, really.

A handheld that is Nvidia based, close to Xbone power on paper sounds to me like a very good device.

The only question is what's the docking part? (obviously it's a hybrid of some sort). Does it activate some cores on the handheld? Does it use the SCD patent? That would be interesting to find out.

Nintendo commented even very recently about how price is important, so maybe even if the device seem expensive it won't be that much. Although the yen doesn't really help with that currently.

Edit: and yes, many of the news in the past year kind of pointed towards a hybrid, but the idea was dismissed based on a very old comment by Iwata.

A handheld packed in with a home console in one SKU at retail, sure I'd be all for that.

Really not sure about this hybrid possibility. Never been convinced that this would make fans of either form factor happy, particularly the people who traditionally only pick up Nintendo's handhelds.

If nothing else it would be a nice surprise to get the launch of both a new handheld and a new console over all at once.

Been busy playing Pokemon Go. Time to catch up.

To summarize, Emily and various industry insiders or messengers like 10k are saying leaks are coming out within this week. So what are the topics of these leaks? Hardware? Release date? Line-up?

Form factors. Chip vendors. Gimmick. Reveal date announcement. Etc.

As long as your browser can support simple Unicode you should be able to see the dates.

That must be it, then. Thanks.

Wouldn't running a single game on 2 different platforms that share the same architecture be a gimmick? Not like what Sony did with PS3/4 to Vita?

But there seems to not be 2 different platforms, just one. The only question here is if docking the handheld will improve the games running on it in some way.

Last I've heard it wasn't an hybrid but it'll be such an incredibly stupid move if it is now. We're just not at a time where it makes sense in terms of price/power/quality/form ratios yet...

If it is known just post it!
Well at this point fake leakers can just be as vague as possible to be vindicated by an official publication saying something more or less close to what they were saying.
They wouldn't risk saying something in case they are actually wrong.

They don't know shit. Hence the vague tweets of non-information.

Seriously, if this turn out to not be a hybrid, I seriously hope we stop listening to Twitter leaks once and for all.

Nobody forces you to listen to anything. You could have just ignored the discussion until there was an information that you consider reliable.

Or I can take part in the discussion. Or do you consider criticism regarding the reliability of unverified leaks as unworthy of discussion?

You're the one complaining in the first place about a discussion taking place and approach this as something that is a collective mentality - "we stop listening". Who's "we"? I was just pointing out that you can do things separately. That's why "could have" and not "should have". Of course that means that you're free to complain about the discussion if that's your thing.

We've all been saying the same shit about seeing stuff and leaks and NX since we all began hyping at the beginning of the year. Why don't we just wait and see instead of being crushingly disappointed again.

I for one like to talk about it. Speculating about NX and having unrealistic expectations about it are two different things really. Disappointment comes from expectations. As long as everybody participating in the discussion understands that it's about speculations and rumours, there should be no disappointment.

Is an NX handheld likely to have significantly more graphics ability than the WiiU? No.
Has it been mentioned that Zelda NX will look better than Zelda WiiU? Yes (IIRC).

I doubt very much that NX is a 'hybrid' where the main machine is actually a handheld, with essentially a docking station accessory for improved graphics on your TV.

What I would say though, is that if the 'docking station' is on the main console, and the handheld runs the same OS/games, then might it not be the case that you dock them to sync/transfer games and save data between the two devices? Seems more likely to me.

Has it? From Nintendo or just speculation from the journalists?

Anyhow, with a better CPU and a GPU around Xbone, Zelda should look better on NX than on Wii U, I don't even understand how is this questionable?

Nintendo have certainly not said Zelda will look significantly better on NX. Random people on twitter may have drawn that conclusion but that doesn't count for much.
