I whipped this up pretty quick. My best guess atm. I'm thinking Wii Remote-style rotation.

Imagine this with interchangeable buttons (already a patent).

Zelda Breath of the Wild in my pocket? Yes please.

That might be the only sale point for it being on NX. I really don't see the NX version looking that much better than the Wii U. Can that NX GPU really run this game at 1080p with AA? I have doubts.

I feel like Voldemort lol.

Emily told me this last night. And I was always of the belief my info was about the NX stationary home console with amd chipsets and hers was an Nvidia powered handheld. So nothing has shocked me.

I'll gladly eat crow and accept the L if nx is revealed and there's no home console.

It is still my assumption as well that there are *at least* two form factors, home and portable, and it would make sense that one chipmaker (Nvidia) talking to journalists wouldn't be aware of what another chipmaker (AMD) is doing. Also, I think the whole detachable controllers bit is rubbish, or at least something else that was misinterpreted. That portion of the leak just doesn't make sense.

Always wanted to play Persona 4 golden on tv , this is better than Vita 2.0 since you will be able to hock on tv an play as a console , hope the dock station lets you connect other controllers like this

Generally speaking, a modern Tegra would have a more advanced feature set, and at least somewhat more horsepower than the Wii U.

Without the specifics, it's hard to say too directly what it would look like.

Isnt the WiiU Power PC build and setup REALLY old at this point?

I would expect Current/Next Gen Tegra to be a reasonably beefy upgrade

Hmmm.... Could the supplemental computing device be sold later for like $100-$150 to boost console performance?

Regardless, this seems pretty cool. Hoping it's Tegra X2 instead of X1.

Whats the leap from X1 to X2 amount to anyways?

I paid good money for this Dynex!
ARM? Sounds kinda ghetto.

I like cartridges, though. And obviously, anything without TV-out would've been a massive disappointment.

Wouldn't get caught up in the idea that this system *only* supports multiplayer with two controllers with limited buttons. Can't see why other options wouldn't be supported

Also I think there's only like one Nintendo-published announced 3DS game still in development, Grezzo's JRPG.
Due for 2017 you mean. But yes.

So will Emily react to this?

She followed up her "badass for portable gaming" comment by saying "I hope this comment from yesterday makes more sense now." Also said "now you can see why I said closer to XB1 to PS4, but that maaay be stretching it".

So yeah, hopefully people can stop saying she's a liar.

Come on now.

End of the main series from Game Freak. There would still be spinoffs, and maybe even a reboot by another dev. Game Freak might shift focus to mobile, current consoles, and PC. We already know that they have PS4 and Xbone dev kits, and I doubt that they bought them to make only one game. Perhaps they were preparing to part ways with Nintendo.

Honestly, I'm kinda hoping for a Zelda GO as well.

Where cyclical series of a hierarchical cluster of dungeons appear within 30km radii, and you have to complete them in a certain order more or less, using GPS AR.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
Having thought about it, the only way NX becomes successful is if they completely body all support for 3DS and focus entirely on NX. Everything gets released on NX or nothing.

Nintendo's internal teams pretty much dropped the Wii U and 3DS about 2 years ago. All their recent games have been either small spinoffs or heavily outsourced.

If they price this right I might actually buy a Nintendo console. Been a long time since I last bought one(SNES).

Love this idea.

It honestly does not make sense for the North American market. No one will bother carrying a large portable device with them when they have their phone. And it will undoubtedly be severely underpowered as a home console, which means they lose what few customers they still had in that market as well.

pretty sure the 3DS is still selling fairly well so this argument doesn't really stack up.

The handheld/console civil war is fascinating to watch in real time lol

also, people are underestimating how powerful mobile is at this point. It's not fucking NEO/Scopio levels, but it doesn't have to be. Nintendo is ceding that space and rightfully so, it's a losing proposition.

It begins.... as a handheld gamer im really happy.

I'm a major handheld fan. I've played my 3DS and Vita as much or more than than my home systems. Has always been true of my handhelds.

My concern becomes whether this will be a true handheld or some middle ground device that doesn't do either well.

Only time will tell, but as a huge fan of handhelds, I'm a bit nervous.

Will still day one this, don't get me wrong.

This is exactly what I was hoping for, but all the talk of it not being a hybrid suggested otherwise. I'm all for Nintendo putting all their resources into a portable that isnt gimped performance wise, rather than wasting it on another lackluster console.

Nintendo owns the Pokemon trademarks, there is no way the main series will go anywhere.

That would be a terrible use of the system! Why would you want to play a massive open world game that requires hours of gameplay on the go, rather than in the comfort of your own home?
Is it really that hard to wrap your head around the concept that some people might like the idea of being able to do both things with zero effort?

As someone who hasn't owned a Nintendo device since the GameCube days when RE4 came out, I haven't even seen the new Zelda stuff, I'm oddly interested and excited by this news. o_O

Perhaps it's the idea of portable console gaming anywhere with friends and then coming home to continue playing on the big tv. It'll be a nice addition and change from my PS4.

Why is Tegra so frowned upon?

I got a Tegra2 tablet and that was utter SHIT. But my Shield has a K1 and that thing is quite beastly, the X1 surely can push much more than that.

And if they can somewhat further improve it with more Watts on console mode, it should offer better perfomance, right?

This thread is hottake heaven right now

This direction makes the most sense for them right now if you think about it. I'm not quite sure how they plan to sell this thing (North America will ignore this thing while I can see Japan supporting it), but the concept itself sounds exciting to me. Having both Nintendo game lineups - console and handheld - on one system is fantastic.

One thing that scares me though is that they could design their games around portability instead of just making console games for a portable device. Less 3D Land, more Galaxy pls. Also, I hope the hardware won't be too Fisher Price toy-esque; give us a good screen that I want to play on and not like Wii U or 3DS where all is wishy washy to these HD-spoiled eyes

So yeah, exciting times if you haven't had your head in the sand for the past decade. Personally I'm interested in that thing but yeah, this will be a tough sell and they better bring it in September

Well Breath of the Wild is gonna be on that thing so they might be doing both?

I do not see this being all that successful. Most people already carry a phone when they travel, and most people like to travel lighter, not heavier.

I hope as a console it is worth buying because the mobile aspect does nothing for me. Kinda hurts the overall package, Like how pools can detract from the cost of a house.

No bald cap? Lies!
Selling 60 million would be a 12 million loss of sales though.

They would likely save far more in terms of R&D and development costs, not to mention all the other logistics that come with supporting, shipping and distributing two entirely separate pieces of hardware.

The problem with vents is they'd expose the internals of the handheld to dust, debris, water etc. Maybe this isn't really a big deal but I don't think Nintendo handhelds have ever done it..

They wouldn't need to be large. I think the benefits outweigh the risk in this case. Water is much more risky than dust, and that will find a way in regardless unless this thing is waterproofed and stupid expensive.
