Yeah I'm thinking we all spawn in our own galaxy.

Milkyway galaxy = 100x10^9 planets (100 billion)

No Mans Sky = 18x10^18 planets (18 quintillion)

So 180 000 000 Milky Ways in the game (math check?) Definately only meeting people in the middle of the universe... not galaxy

Do we think the draw distance will be a problem when exploring? Some videos you watch, have plants, and even animals forming before your eyes only around 20 virtual meters in front of you. . .kind of makes it difficult to see something awesome way in the distance and go towards it because you won't actually be able to see things in the distance.

Or is it good because you've to walk around and explore everything and you may stumble in to things you couldn't see at a distance.

What some videos are you referring to? Because of the nature of the game, that will exist more in this game than most. Some builds were especially bad with it, but I've noticed it was much less extreme in the recent trailers. (Compared to some earlier videos)

But how many planets do we need to farm in order to gather resources to get to the center of the universe? like a 100?

If im not mistaken, i heard Sean mentioning that u can reach the center without ever entering in a planet. Just by gathering resorces from asteroids, other space ships and trading in space stations.

Is this game like a space Minecraft in the sense surviving is the main objective and there is no actual story?

Hard to say, someone or something must tell you to get to the center and we haven't seen any of that presented yet.

The actual journey is to make it your own way though.

Entirely first person.

In fact what you actually look like is one of the big mysteries of the game and apparently tied to the games lore, which is why when you discover another player it's supposed to be something "special"

How special that is remains to be seen though.

In another subject, to Legacy Zero or anyone else working on the OT, will there be a moderator presiding over the thread. I just as assumed More_Badass was going to be the one considering his activity in NMS threads.

If there was a game that needed a mod for the OT, this is it. If there won't be one, I will probably avoid it for the most part.

Yes. its a exploration/ survival sandbox game. There is lore about alien races, factions and all that, but the player is not following any scripted story.

I could see it opening up some really interesting role playing opportunities at least

Same. Grease up the wheels of the imagination we once had to rely on full stop 25+ years ago.

These kids and their hand holding narratives and 5 second attention spans. Get off my procedural lawn! *shakes fist*

I am really anticipating the reviews for this game. Any idea when reviews might happen. Since the game is so huge, I wonder how the reviewers finish the game and if there is a shortcut to help them?

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

Reviewers will not be finishing this game for reviews.

As many as needed, if your only goal is a speedrun. Murray said that even rushing toward the centre could take 40 to 100 hours, depending on how much time you need to find resources to produce hyperdrive fuel, or even better an upgraded hyperdrive engine.
I personally don't think that 100 planets will be enough, but who knows?

Curious to see how this game will play out. I hope you can sort of create your own adventures and such. That's a big way that I see this game living up to its expectations - giving you the tools to make your own journey.

Can it please be release day today?

My anticipation for this game died down in the winter. But it's quickly ramping up again. I guess I'll have Abzu to keep me busy next week.

What if in the center of the galaxy is another galaxy?

Spoilers for the center found:

Between this and Abzu, I can confidently say that I'll be a happy man until the big boys start releasing.

At exactly 14:24 you can see an animal appear quite close. Bushes and stuff also generally appear in footage I've seen.
It doesn't bother me one bit... I'm just wondering if it'll affect looking in the distance for things and making that impossible.

I'm with you on this but I hope they will be big enough once we actually play the game.

On the opposite side of this, has their been any mention of planetoids (sp?) or super SMALL things in the game?

More pics of "big" stuff:

So who is ready for all "NO CONTENT" whining that's definitely going to happen within days of this game releasing?

To be honest, I don't give a flying hoot what anyone thinks of this game. Especially once it's in my hands and I can play it myself. And that includes people that love it or hate it. In the end, it just doesn't matter to me.

The people that bitch are going to bitch. The people that gush are going to gush. I'm just ready for the game to be in my PS4 already!

That bothers me about the NMS OT more than others - I predict it's going to attract far more people than usual who don't own the game bitch, bitch, bitching about how its not for them. I hope I'm wrong.

I approach the game with an open mind. Hoping it scratches the itch its premise and aethestic have hinted at.

Hmm with online play being optional im wondering if everyones game will be their own galaxy and with online play at somepoint in your travels you will come to a point you can traverse over to another persons galaxy. Thus you have a NMS universe with many galaxies and everyones center of the galaxy will be something different.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Everyone starts on Balari V. :p

What makes me laugh about that is it's the size of a planet. I get the impression that people can't quite overcome the mindset that's been drilled into them by more traditional games. When I read comments complaining about Balari V, I think 'Earth again, I'm sick of seeing Earth.

Chances are we'll never see Balari V and there's also a chance it doesn't actually exist in the finished game.

I hope there's a black star to find. My most wanted thing.

As long as David Bowie is at the center of the universe I'll be happy.

1: I don't see a Ps4
2: The controller is connected via wire

Those are my only observations. Take that for what you will.

Every game Sean Murray has developed the engine for or otherwise coded on has been 60fps on console. Take that as you will.

I've never seen that footage and don't know where it came from, so I don't know how long ago it was taken. They've made big improvements to draw distance and LOD pop-in over time.

Not even that but even if the game sold millions it'd be hilariously unlikely that more than a few people run into each other. If a million or so humans were randomly dropped on earth and only spent a few hours (at best) there then they'd probably never meet anyway.

Think that might have been from the Colbert footage. Or possibly B-Roll from that demo.

Either way it's relatively ancient, and recent footage has been way, way better about generating animals (and trees, and everything else) farther away from the player.

I'd be more than happy to find Bolari V. We've only seen a tiny section of it and there's a whole damn planet out there to investigate, including a labyrinth of caves and caverns. Every time I watch the trailers with Bolari V in them, all I can think is, I wonder what's over there or I wonder what's down there.

I really don't understand people. I suppose it boils down to: There's no point in offering people a vast universe to explore if they've only got tiny imagination. That sounds mean but I'd say it more or less sums it up.

Really hope I never, ever see that godforsaken Balari V again for the rest of my days!

Dunno if posted, but this is me about now. I got burned by Fable and Spore imagining possibilities, and I've tried to stay level leading up to NMS, but the fervor and excitement always seems to surpass the game realities. 100% of it is a personal problem, as a pitch can be so good I can't help but scramble to find the scraps to feed my insatiable hunger for information.

This is the most I've been looking forward to a game since Skyrim and due to me moving state and finding a new job it appears I won't even be able to get No Man's Sky until late August to September. :( To be clear, I don't agree with his closing statements, but the overall idea that the hype and lead up of a game with insight into development creates a discussion and perception that is as engaging (and often times moreso) than the end result ends up being. The conversations spawned from Fable hype and Spore hype were engaging, as were the multitude of NMS threads.
