When did they stop putting resolutions on the back of the boxes? This new?

Coincidentally or not, it stopped being a thing right around the same time Sony and Guerilla got sued by some nutjob for not having "Real" 1080p multiplayer because KZ:SF multiplayer didn't use the 1080 lines of pixels the way he wanted them to.

omg I wish i still worked at bestbuy. The best thing about working there was seeing all the new games in the back like 3 weeks before they release.
No kidding. I would have taken pictures of all the new games pre-release if I knew it would make the internet lose its shit lol

I remember that, lol. Seems to be the case, or very coincidental.

I'm not sure that spoilers are really a thing with this game. The things you'll see people posting are things that you'll never see in game, and the things you see in game are things that no one else will ever see.

If you're really that hard up about spoilers, just go dark, no need to make a spoiler thread two weeks before launch.

You only have to worry about the ones that will play it 72 hours straight to get to the center. If they get it early then that could be bad.

i would prefer 30 frames/sec with higher draw distance/reduced pop in over 60 frames if it came down to it. The new trailers show almost zero pop in, but then again most of the bad pop in we have seen comes when flying near surface and there hasnt been a lot of that in these 4 trailers.

I think it's hard to define a spoiler for this game in some aspects.

The center is a spoiler. This one is for certain. (the others I mention below in my list I feel are for certain as well)

The alien races could be spoilers. The deciphering of alien text could be a spoiler. A planet could be a spoiler. Weather could be a spoiler. Ship designs could be a spoiler. But at the same time, these bits could also not be spoilers. If all holds true, every single one of us should in theory have a completely different experience while playing this game. So...

Will we even see and be dealing with the same alien races? Same goes for text? Is it universal? We don't know, do we? We might end up experiencing the same weather depending on it's variations and how and where it appears. I guess someone could never experience a sandstorm, etc.

But how could we limit spoilers? I mean, no one would ever be able to post a pic or a vid or really anything for that matter. Everything could potentially be a spoiler then. It's one of those games stuck in the middle.

For me, there are three (for now) spoilers I'm trying like hell to avoid:

1. How you start the game.

2. What's at the center of the universe/galaxy (whatever it is at this point).

3. What happens after you reach the center.

If the street date gets broken, I may go dark though. But at the same time, man will that be hard to do. Oi.

If that tradeoff is that noticeable, I would definitely be content with Destiny smooth 30fps.

just saw that Polygon described No Man's Sky as a spiritual successor to Spore in their August Releases article lol, not sure I'd fully agree with that

Ordered it on Best Buy website tonight after weeks of them not accepting orders
Lucky something something! :p I've been trying all the time and I get the removed item from cart nonsense. I regret not ordering it when it was first announced. For some reason it just didn't occur to me. Oh well, there's always a chance of cancellations last minute. Fingers crossed. :)

I know from working with Unreal Engine and Speedtree, that if you bring a "leaf mesh" in the modeler as mesh asset, then use the properties to set the card not to rotate. Let's hope it was adjusted/modified like that.

In Unity, there should be a setting to disable rotation.
Interesting, but they have said they made their own engine. Hopefully they ticked that rotation box off lol.

I have my pre-order from Prime since they first hit months ago, but I want to get it know Best Buy for the Rewards Points and in-store pickup.

And yes, for the past week, this has been annoying. They should just grey it out if it is not working.

I thought it was Unity based, but heavily modified/gutted(?) to the point that it is pretty much their own engine now?

Either way, agreed, lol.

Polygon gonna Polygon. They also dropped in a line about "HOPE IT ISN'T DELAYED AGAIN LOL". The game has already shipped to stores, brehs ;)

In terms of its use of procedural generation, it shares a bit of the same DNA as Spore. However It is in no way a spiritual sequel and the goals and gameplay are completely different. They threw that line in as a troll or were ignorant of what the two games are about.

I will definitely have to keep trying then. I have the regular game preordered at the moment through Best Buy too because I want the points as well and store pick up too. I have a funny feeling, I'm going to cave and preorder it on psn as well so I can play at midnight on the 8th if they do the preload thing. There's a part of me that would have no problem doing that AND buying the LE (or even just the plain disc version). :D Then the rational side is like, dammit, don't do that. But then the gamer in me is like, just do it and play it as soon as possible! It's only money, right? Heh.

People will, guaranteed. I doubt it takes 72 hours either

Be prepared for the "NMS 'beaten' in X hours" thread and the wave of trolling that will ensue.

I don't know...this isn't a linear, scripted game where you can just run past the enemies to clear each stage. Someone might be able to jump ahead using the right wormhole portals, but they'll also find themselves in dangerous territory without proper equipment to handle it. I can't see something crazy like a 5 or 10 hour completion time happening.

Framerate has nothing to do with the pop-in because the pop-in has nothing to do with the GPU. The pop-in is completely about how fast the CPU can generate the world as you move. Graphically this game doesn't look like it would really tax the PS4. They've moved the world generation to a separate thread, so it seems to have solved most of the pop-in issues.

The alien races are not procedurally generated, so yeah I'd say they're spoiler material.

I think my metric for spoilers in NMS is:
1) it's never been officially shown by Hello
2) it's a major game mechanic or piece of content
3) it's part of the narrative Sean's keeping secret

If 1 + either 2 or 3 is answered "yes", then it's a spoiler. Of course what constitutes "major" content is subjective, but I'd say for instance a new creature is not major content, but a new type of building and its function would be. Deciphered lore would be major content, showing a tornado would not.

30fps would give the CPU twice as long to work out what to draw, so you'd definitely get better draw distance. But wouldn't it be exponential based on distance? So at a certain point even a large increase in CPU performance will only net you a small amount of visible draw distance

Why exponential instead of cubic?

I'm not predicting sub 10 hours will happen so much as I wouldn't be surprised if it happened. Someone will find a way to break the economy, grind a rare resource or make tons of credits quickly. Will that will be enough to buy an uber ship with a great hyperdrive and reach the center in sub-10 hours? I don't know but when you have thousands of players intentionally poking and prodding, someone will find a weakness.

That isn't a knock against Hello Games, it is just reality. MMOs deal with this all the time out of the gate. More recent games like Destiny and especially the Division's entire post launch seemed centered around fixing exploits and cheats.

The difference is there is no in game competitive advantage to doing it in NMS (and this obviously isn't an MMO) but when the center of the galaxy is seen as this big mystery, that is enough incentive for certain players to try and break the game as quickly as possible.

True, but wouldn't that assume the GPU draw rate is locked to the CPU? Sean may not have wanted to artificially limit twitch action capabilities and thus renders the world geometry two frames per CPU update in order to keep a locked 60fps.

Yeah, there will certainly be people trying to break the game, especially given the amount of internet hate it seems to get. And some will just want to rush and be the first on reddit and Twitter to post the center of the ____ spoiler. I guess I just look at that endless galactic map and wonder how anyone could reach the center in 5 hours.

The more likely scenario regarding the Center spoiler is that someone will get their copy delivered early and have 20-40 hours of time before anyone even gets their copy.

I really wish this was releasing next Tuesday. And I totally forgot that I preordered the LE on BBY. Need to cancel that for the superior Prime discounted order I have.

Oh maybe that. It was 6am and I had to leave the house so I just picked a word meaning 'gets bigger quickly' :p

I wonder if it's possible to get trapped? You could warp to a system with very hostile planets that kill you before you can mine fuel etc and if the save outa you back at your ship you'd still be in that system so could be marooned.

Asteroids will provide fuel when destroyed~ So even if you're out of fuel, you can still fly around and destroy asteroids for fuel.

Just got in a preorder of the LE on GameStop's website. I really hope the PS4 version of the game isn't disappointing. I might just end up double dipping...

Only the hyperdrive burns fuel, right?

Yeah. If you want to jump to different systems though, you need hyperdrive fuel. I guess they didn't want to make it less fun(to some?) having to collect different fuel for your ship and for jumping.

(I wonder if they'll implement an option though..)

im probably reaching but looks like the racks at best buy or walmart
It could be any backroom of any big box retailer, honestly

I worked electrics at Target back in the day, I remember everything from Halo ODST to Mass Effect 2 or the special editions of Skyward Sword sitting in the back a few weeks before launch. As a gamer, it was tough to deal with sometimes lol

Awesome, just woke up to an email from GAME showing my preorder is now less. With the other discount I got applied to it, it means it's £53 for the limited edition :)

Just canceled my LE. I decided I want to save 20€ and go for digital, 59,99€ is just better in my current situation than 79,99€..

Also, NMS is a game that I want on my ps4 always like destiny. I don't want to get the disc for 10-20 minute play sessions or for remote play.
