MCV: Mario & Pokemon coming within 6 months of NX launch, 3rd parties, exec comment

Easy talking now, but she didn't want to share it before?

I think the key words there are "I heard". Emily has stated time and time again that she doesn't like to report on things the second she hears about them. She prefers to get information from multiple sources first.

I swore I wouldn't buy a console at launch again, but a mainline zelda, mario and Pokemon coming out would mean I wouldn't have much of a choice.
Looks like Nintendo is doing it right this time.

Yep I brought that up a couple days back and got roasted for it. These people want to seem important so bad. Me personally I don't like the "leaks" all together.

Lol this whole piggybacking stuff is funny from these journalist. So many want NX attention! Let's wait for IGN and 10 other sites now say they've been hearing the same things.

To everyone in this thread: Gamefreak only works on mainline Pokemon, no spinoffs. If this info is legit, then the least that could be expected is a third version/sequel to Sun/Moon.

Half expecting a red/blue/yellow remake. The last remake has been 2 generations ago and the jump from something on SNES levels to above WiiU would be quite large.

Yeah I noticed that too and didnt want to hand out L's to all of the detatachable controller groupies so quick. I still stand by my word that the Falco controller is the NX. Laugh all yall want.

LOL!!! You're right that it makes a difference though to what it is. If the rumor is for two of these things, it's easy to see traveling local multiplayer being a hook. If it's just one...it kind of does away with a lot of that. It also solves some issues with tiny controllers being included!

Oh, and #TeamFalcoController! (A Nintendo designed Shield-ish system would be pretty neat too!)

Yeah it completely changes the form of the NX because it could be a full standard controller with a screen attached aboved it and they can separate from each other.

You're right about that! It opens up some more options!

I also found their Twitter page which had a link to where you could access the free online magazine. (Is there a print version?) The story looks the same as the original link with controller singular.

This has been mostly true, so I'd expect either a port of Sun/Moon (it'd be their first port however) or a remake of old games, Gen 1 or Gen 4 being the most likely in my mind. I can't see it being a sequel or third version given that those are released more than just a year after the previous release (which even 6 months after a March NX release wouldn't even reach.)

Of course, the last two gens have proved that Game freak doesn't care for the traditional model of releases if they have better ideas in mind.

Wonder who is wrong,

Miyamoto or MVC.

Beside that, MVC says the system doesn't appeal for ps4 owners, but looking at this forum, it seems allot of them willing to buy one.

Everyone, myself included, seems to be assuming that the Mario game will be the next big 3D Mario adventure, but really it could be NSMB or even a sports spinoff.

What on earth did I miss that Miyamoto said about NX? Please elaborate.

Also, the editor of that story also wrote one on the cost of the NX. He mentioned it on Twitter and had this to say:

Sounds like bullshit to me. There's no way the new 3D Mario game and Pokemon comes out before November 2017.

If they get a new Mario and Pokemon game (a proper DS style game, not a crappy spin off) out in the first 6 months, along side Zelda: BotW, that will be a pretty damn awesome line up for NX.

Add a Metroid, F-Zero, Donkey Kong or Mario Kart game into that mix too and they got a hell of a launch for NX.

I was expecting a pokemon at or near launch, but then Sun / Moon happened. And frankly neither of those games look suitable for porting to a 1080p screen experience, you know?

I'd expect the pokemon for NX to be a generational leap forward, which is why I can't expect it near launch anymore. So I have no idea what to expect. If it's a straight port of Sun / Moon, or a third 'Stars' version, I'll be disappointed.

As for Mario, it's time. Just make sure that it's not multiplayer focused this time, as that kills Mario games. Also, in order of preference: "Real 3D Mario" -> "2D Mario" -> "Fake 3D Mario (3D World)". No more fraudulent 3d mario games!

Gamefreak's technical prowess has never been that great so I wouldn't imagine an enormous leap between SM and Gen 8 to begin with.

I disagree. The motion and engine look great, it just needs to be spruced up quite a bit. Someone posted some really high quality gifs, they looked terrific. Anyone have 'em on deck?

A Pokemon game by GF is interesting. They're hardly ending a generation within 1 year, but at the same time, this would cut off compatibility between the same generations (besides Pokebank). Also, the director cut/sequel games have never been released so close after the initial game since Generation II, though I guess it isn't impossible.

The Mario game has to be the Galaxy/3DW team's game. It will be over 3 years since 3DW's launch by then.

Hopefully we don't have to wait too much longer until we hear about this thing. Eurogamer said they were planning for a September reveal, right?

Well the models were pretty much made to be future-proof based on their high poly-count. They look pretty good in HD. The overworld is another story.

You have no idea if Miyamoto was talking about the same Mario game. Nintendo always has in development at least 2 of them.

I mean they could be both right. A year or two could be one and a half, and if it's around holiday 2017 that would fit, sort of. Makes sense that they namecheck it for launch and have it playable at E3 2017.

And didn't we have rumblings of a new 3D Mario for much longer? Don't think it's a recent rumor.

I believe Pokemon will just be a shitty spin-off like PokePark or Pokemon Snap

But if they did a full Rpg like the 3ds ones it would print money.

Hopes up for Mario Galaxy 3, or something similar to Mario 64

Anyone who says shit like this (a) is suffering from some serious confirmation bias, (b) doesn't understand the slightest thing about how journalism works.

One outlet had a scoop, other outlets talked to their own sources and published their own corroborating stories within the next day or so.

This is a thoroughly mundane journalistic practice. The notion that there is anything suspicious about it is, to be blunt, hilariously deluded.

There have been 2 mobile and 2 home titles after the 14 year hiatus. Always is overstating it.

I believe you didn't read more than the title. What do I win?

The next mainline Mario, Zelda, Dragon Quest, Pokemon, and maybe even Monster Hunter being on NX within the first year would be pretty nuts.
Japan will probably flip over it

It just struck me that the reason we've seen so little of the next DQ game is probably because SE can't get the PS4 version to work correctly on NX.

God damn if they could get a portable more powerful than Wii U for less than 200 quid I'd lose it. That'd be insane value.

Is there any reason NX won't dominate Japan? ;)

It's done decently. Don't think it has hit a million though.

TPCi has been weird as fuck and have butchered any chance of competitive Pokkén. For example, they added a MAJOR Pokkén event two days before the event and expected it to do well. Attendance has been low. Hell, they sneak announced the Pokkén Tournament Last Championship Qualifiers for Worlds last week, giving a 24 hour window to register, and nobody knew about it until the last 6 hours.

They've practically sabotaged Pokkén's competitive chances. It's a joke.

Shame. I really enjoyed it

Gamefreak's technical prowess has never been that great so I wouldn't imagine an enormous leap between SM and Gen 8 to begin with.

I know that (the X/Y engine was so shit I struggled to believe Nintendo was okay with it) but if they're jumping from a 240p screen to a 1080p one it's time to hire a lot of fucking visual and engine programmers and improve.

I disagree. The motion and engine look great, it just needs to be spruced up quite a bit. Someone posted some really high quality gifs, they looked terrific. Anyone have 'em on deck?

It looks fine for a 3DS game but if a PS4 game came out looking like that we'd assume it was some kind of kickstarter experiment on unity where they couldn't afford could environment modellers. Watch this trailer and try to imagine that being released as a PS4 game. It's multiple generations behind.

They need to upgrade, and they need time for that. I hope they don't rush things.
