I wonder if this thing can be patched or modded later down the line? I would love to play co-op with my wife

People were able to give just cause 2 a mp mode on PC. so maybe some sort of co op functionality will be added by some clever poeple down the road... but...

I just woke up and haven't followed the full story of the player that tried to meet each other.
Have they tried to go on a planet to see if that would work or just stayed on the station?

They should have bought lotto tickets.
I mean, 1 in 18 quintillion odds. They could have won Powerball multiple times over before encountering one another in No Man's Sky again.

Does quintillion planets really mean quintillion planets exist at launch? That's just the maximum potential, right?

I thought that the number of worlds present right now would be proportional to the small # of players who are playing the game right now, and that the # of worlds that exist would expand over time as people explore and as more players begin the game?

Dude obviously hopes it would do these great-sounding things, and maybe they still can make them happen somewhere, sometime down the road...but he seems to have Molyneux'ed things a bit when he couldn't just level with people.

Maybe that sort of MP can be added in but, just to be clear, co-op/versus was never hinted at. When Murray spoke of MP it was always in the context of stuff like the player messages and apparitions in Dark Souls, etc.

Man, the defense force for this game is amazing.
Nothing is bad everything is okay because people set themselves for disappointment not the dev who promised the sky( no pun intended) amd didn't deliver. /s

Act as if the game was 60fps. Retail game: 30fps
Act as if you could see/kill other players. Retail game: Nope.

If plans change it's the responsibility of the dev to inform people about it.

So, what if when devs cut the framerate in half, they have separated the two friends in the two universes of the same whole 60 fps.

I like how even his responses only open up more questions instead of answers.

Dude must've been a writer on LOST.

edit:

hypothetically, let's say that this is a server issue causing the non-seeing between the two players in the same star system.

are those players still in the same planet? can they stay put and try again a few days down the road and see if they can see each other then?

Everything he's writing screams "server glitch", if it doesn't, there's some serious bullshit going on.

Really he should just come out and say "they should have seen each other but the game can't handle it right now".

So you can't see other players?

Kind of shitty if they implied you could then. Hope this gets cleared up soon, game seems to be pretty great either way and doesn't need this kind of thing hanging over it.

I agree.

Just state this and we can close this thread.

To me that can be interpreted as server issues, or it was never planned to be a day 1 feature. But he can't just say either way outright.

Think it's pretty obvious what he's saying. Server issues were the reason they couldn't see each other.

So 'no multiplayer' (which he tweeted yesterday) means very light elements of what can be considered MP *are* in the game, but the game is not for you want a MP centric experience. Which is what Murray has been saying since day 1.

Right, except for the time being, so far as we are aware, you cannot encounter other players and the game is completely single player. Which is utterly contrary to every single quote from the developer up to and including literally HOURS BEFORE RELEASE. Hence the reason for this thread existing. 'Is it multiplayer or isnt it' should not be a subject of debate about a game hours before it's release and then days after. That is just pathetic on the part of the devs. A game like this just screams EXPLORE WITH MY FRIENDS' and the fact that the messaging has been so unclear up to and even after the release of the game is just incredibly dumb. They would have know for months if not years that multiplayer was not within the scope of the project. The message, until mere hours ago has been 'yes, but not likely to be commonplace' and even after he tried to 'clear things up' he was still incredibly ambiguous. 'Chances are near zero' indeed lol.

The messaging has not been unclear. Just like in the article I posted above and in the comment you quoted all the things are possible. Just not likely. The videos show responses to direct questions.

The game is designed as a single player experience, you may encounter others but that doesn't change the design of the game. It is not MP, it is not co op, it is not designed as MMO. No matter how many videos, and interviews in which this was stated it seems as if people want to ignore this simply because some people feel " A game like this just screams EXPLORE WITH MY FRIENDS'" Which is funny because it seems as if he was constantly trying to deter that mindset.

It's possible that they are going over it now and that any number of issues could have caused this.

Universes have anomalies, after all. ;)

My guess? That tweet about Easter Eggs means there is multiplayer-style stuff that he doesn't want to reveal because part of the fun is discovering them. And my guess is no one has discovered them yet.

Of course, this is difficult for Hello Games to talk around, because we're so used to games being so binary in multiplayer. Your game is either multiplayer or it isn't, with a few exceptions like Journey and Dark Souls.

I do think though that they should clarify whether you can see other players or not.

Also, maybe the center of the universe in the game has something to do with multiplayer? I don't think anyone's reached it aside from the guy who bought the leaked copy.

This is in no way a dealbreaker for me. Being able to meet up (or just happen upon someone) and see them would have been a cool bonus, but the core of the game is exploring on your own, as they've always been very clear about. BUT, yes, they should have more clearly answered this question some time ago. All this "it's sooo improbable" talk has just felt like them not wanting to answer the actual question. Except a few times they have, and they've literally said that you CAN see other players (only it's "sooo improbable"). If that's not even possible (shut up about the "sooo improbable"), they should have said so. They have said that it is, even as they've tried to sidestep the question in every interview. So if you can't actually see other players at all, then they've lied to us all this time. Or maybe it's just a server/instancing thing, which is fine. But please, just come out and tell us what's going on.

EDIT: Ok, so it definitely is possible. Cool! Let's hope we actually see it happen soon as well.

Come on Sean. You could've easily told us the current status in one of those many tweets. Stop acting so obscure.
So, what if when devs cut the framerate in half, they have separated the two friends in the two universes of the same whole 60 fps.
So player 1 would exist in the universe with even frames and player 2 exists in the one with uneven frames Mindblown.png

Maybe the ability to see other players only exists for players who have reached The Center?

??!?!??!

i need to go to sleep

They're either being evasive about the answers to players' questions because 1) they don't want to admit limitations of the game in fear of losing sales; 2) they don't want to spoil some "storyline" aspect of the game that involves multiplayer mechanics - after all, this is a game about discovery; 3) Sean enjoys trolling us.

I wonder if it something has to do with the portals. They've been discovered, but nobody has figured yet how to activate them as far as I know.

He is so vague probably because there's some convulated way, some requirements not met before people actually can actually meet up in real time with each other. Saying anything at all would (in his view) already give too much of a clue to that.

At least, that's what I'm thinking why he's keeping it rather vague.
