I think this problem is far bigger and more important than you think. It isn't just a thread on NeoGAF.
And I think it's far less important than this thread is making out. But I'm not arguing, everybody is welcome to an opinion!

For everbody who needs a quote.
Is this backed up by anything else than your personal ideas of "poor indie dev" and "big bad corporation"?The more I think about it, I don't think this is the fault of Sean. I think Sony is to blame here. My guess is, his multiplayer comments were when multi WAS being considered. My guess is, Sony cut multi to get the game out when THEY wanted it out. Not any longer
Haha! Oh man.gifi don't like the tone being directed at the developers. I don't even see the "controversy" this was never billed as a multiplayer game.
The delivery of the griefing line afterwards is even weirder with him scratching his face. He is visibly uncomfortable. Make of that what you will.Feel like his body is saying no fucking chance.
The frustration you're seeing isn't born from wanting Hello to fix the MP so much as it is wanting the matter to be addressed or even just acknowledged. If Sean had issued a tweet to the effect of "We're aware that players cannot interact with one another and will comment in the coming days", there'd be far less vitriol, but instead there's a very strong impression that Hello is deliberately avoiding the matter and so those who were intrigued by the idea of possibly meeting and interacting with another player are feeling as though they've been cast aside. It's not a terribly obtuse concept: something that was supposed to be in the game is missing and people who were interested in this element would like to know why.
Pretty much my thoughts.
I kinda feel bad for him now. As a developer I see this kind of thing a lot. Someone casually talking up functionality of a product they are excited about but either pressure from bosses to ship it or finding out it's impractical/impossible cause it to never be there and the customers are left scratching their heads. But yeah I guess there's no excuse for not addressing it by now
There is also no excuse for still alluding to the same non-existing functionality on release day with several deliberately misinforming and vague tweets. Those interviews were no accident and I highly doubt he was pressured into saying all these things.Pretty much my thoughts.

Can someone please provide a quote then as all i can remember is the developer saying things along the lines of that its a shared universe and to think of it of a single player game. I have followed the development of the game fairly closely and i can't think of a time it was definitely billed as a multiplayer game where you find your friends and do discover things together.
So, still not network issue that they might work on and fix, huh? Pack it up guys, there is no MP. They don't want to share the bad news right now.

Wait, you are still going with this? This video actually disproves your point and I laughed at you for posting it about 50 pages ago.Nope, here's your brief mp experience

All this uproar over a what could be a couple of seconds of seeing someone else. And no, you can't explore with your friends.
lol
Dude have you even watched this video yourself? If so, how could you come to the conclusion that this video supports your point?
Again: he is being asked the simple question of whether two players can see each other when they are in the same place. And again he doesn't give a straight answer. He starts his sentence with "yeah ... " and then spouts the same obtuse bs: "no focus on MP", "incredibly rare", "might not happen ever" etc. blabla but never a definitive "yes" or "no" to a simple question.
Quite to the contrary: he is then comparing the game's MP to Journey and Dark Souls - you know, games in which people could actually play with each other. Fucking NOPE. This game is NOTHING like Journey or Dark Souls. This is just another piece of wilful misinformation. So, thanks for the example against your agenda!

Except it was stated on multiple occasions that you would. The video you keep on posting still doesn't explain how it would work clearly. Up to release people were under the impression you could meet other people, just that it was very, very rare. But if it isn't in the code, it just isn't possible. And if the developer knew that, they shouldn't have even made the comments about it being rare, because that is simply misleading.Nope, here's your brief mp experience

Then it should have been no problem clearing that up before release - or now after release. It is just strange.I totally agree. I am leaning towards thinking he was excited at the possibility of those features and spoke of them as concrete things in interviews
So continue to ignore the newest info regarding the matter but still cling on to year+ old videos.

You are the one ignoring the fact he doesn't deny MP in the video. Also, how about patch notes from day one? That refer to player collision? Recent enough?
Carry on.

No, he is just reposting the interview from the French site again that talks about a multiplayer feature in the game that isn't in the game now. What's the new information? Did they say something?
Except we don't know that! It is unclear.Sean clearly tells you how the interactions work in that video. Y'all just ignoring it

Is anybody talking about it outside of one thread of GAF?
Someone should make a second gif of "a little bit" ... his body language is even more revealing.Honestly, it look like his body is saying no
Pretty much every big gaming media outlet has an article up, many small ones too and not just English speaking sites. Is anybody talking about it outside of one thread on GAF? Honest question. I saw two articles between Eurogamer and Game Informer.
He gave me a guess earlier lol. Even he doesn't know for sure. No, he is just reposting the interview from the French site again that talks about a multiplayer feature in the game that isn't in the game now.
Except we don't know that! It is unclear.
So just to be sure: you believe that there is some kind of multiplayer feature in there along the lines of Journey?

They don't really need to once the PC version goes live and data miners have their way with it.I'm sure they'll release a statement a few days after the PC release
Some people but this thread beats all of them combined with outrageIs anybody talking about it outside of one thread on GAF? Honest question. I saw two articles between Eurogamer and Game Informer.
As JaseC said earlier Sean wont talk about any of this until late next week when most of steam sales for the game will be secured.

That is the issue that people are trying to clear up. The question is: is this form of multiplayer talked about before there? Yes or no. And if it is there, why didn't it work? Server issues, on different servers, it is random, you need to do something special? We simply don't know and that is what is getting people confused.I decided not to purchase the game, but Ive been interested in all the multiplayer talk and tried to understand it from a technical perspective. If you think of GTA Online as an example, there are only so many people on a particular server at one time (I forget the actual number but its pretty low). Now imagine the vast size of No Mans Sky, and imagine a limited number of people on the same server as you. How would you ever come across them?
As for the two people who tried to meet up but couldn't see each other, I imagine they were just on different servers and therefore a completely different instance of the game?
I just don't see how this can work, but then Im no expert.

I don't see the fuming outrage in this thread, tbh. Largely, people voice their concerns and disappointment in a pretty civil manner, some are making fun on Murray's twitter silence but that's about it.They don't really need to once the PC version goes live and data miners have their way with it.

That said, if anyone feels they were mislead or were simply expecting something else then sorry to hear that but I guess this just isn't the game for you. Don't buy it/return it and move on

To keep your GTA online comparison, a NMS server would only represent a single solar system. It would probably be p2p meaning that a player would be the server host ( I think that's true for gta too). Each time someone warp to a solar system it would check if someone is already there, if there is someone it would joins that server, if there isn't you'd become the one hosting a server for that solar system.I decided not to purchase the game, but Ive been interested in all the multiplayer talk and tried to understand it from a technical perspective. but can anyone give me a brief run down on exactly how the topic of non answers about MP got THIS huge in the last two days? Is it simply because Sean and the team won't answer one way or another? Is it because people really wanted it, no matter how rare?
