Depend on how it crashes, it might use the cloud save. Had it happen to me, but I wasn't too far behind for it to matter.

The planets named "poop" NEED to be registered. Expect a shitstorm bigger than this one if they don't get saved.
Because if you are not connected to the servers, you will not see that systems and such were already discovered by other players cause you are not syncing up with the servers.
It also means nothing you discover will be send to other people yet so they won't see your "Poop Planet" joke.

I don't really want this game to be a MMO, but being able to have friends or a group of people that can play in the same instance would be cool. Some sort of invite system or something, I don't know. Even if they limited to one other person or a low number of 5-10 people in the same instance. If they could have made that happen or make it happen in a future update I think that would go a long way.

There is no way he would tweet about people meeting if he didnt think it would happen.
Somethings going on with the servers, its a bug or something in the recent patch screwed with it somehow. Thats just my 2 cents though.

Don't lump everyone in the same boat. Many of us didn't name-call, or even attack the creator. I just want to know what I'm getting myself into when I put my money down on something. And apparently the consumer is supposed to follow Sean Murray's Twitter account because years of footage and developer commentary aren't what should be informative. Of course he doesn't have to visit a thread on a gaming enthusiast forum. But he's outright avoiding answering any questions regarding one particular subject from a pretty sizable crowd - not just here.
