The fact that people are already forgetting that they announced more than just a release date at the event is proof that in 10 years, nobody will care that they had to wait an extra two months.

Yeah, that Audi sure changed the world.

They spent a lot of money to announce a release that that's now going to be missed.

Who cares? So it misses it's release date for a later one. All of a sudden people just don't care about the game anymore?

It was a great event but I'm more worried about a better running game.

well at least its not next year like some are hoping.

i prefer for them to launch their product at the announced date than wait a couple months, the problems the game has wont be fixed in six more weeks,

Also now its kinda funny when they first announced the date as November 30 then changed to September the last second XD

Technically there was no release date before, but come on....this game has been effectively delayed for a very long time and development was apparently restarted. This is just a brief further delay, it'll be in your hands in November.

Delays which aren't just for marketing reasons are totally fine. If they need more time to make a better game, the end result is good for us.

I've waited more than 10 years, I can wait another 2 months.

Nirolak actually made a great post a few pages back. The 'new' date sounds like the last possible release date for the year and SE will likely push it further back if it's not ready into 2017.

Also, when I said Tabata was a wash, I meant he failed to get the game ready 9-10 months after it was 'deemed' playable from start to finish.

I agree with people that I prefer them to delay the game if it is still unfinished, but it is just so annoying that they would give a definitive date for this game if they weren't completely sure. Look at Sony's TLG: they refused to give anything more than a release year to avoided delay disappointment. SE should have handed it that way until they knew for 100 percent when it'd be ready. That's my gripe with this delay.

I agree, maybe dont make a huge deal about your release date (i.e a whole event) if you cant hit it

Square got massively arrogant with its marketing campaign. This game will bomb solely because they spent too much trying to grab broad appeal for a game in a niche genre.

They spent a lot of money to announce a release that that's now going to be missed.

No, they spent a lot of money to market the game. Just looking at video views for everything Uncovered shows that they were effective.

If they had November 30 as the date like that countdown showed, would this post even exist? That just shows how pointless the date is in the grand scheme of things. They were off target but it was for marketing. How effective it was is another topic altogether.

Uncovered was to get people's eyes on the game.

You want them to take a beating for potentially making a better game. Yet I'm sure you'd be just as upset if the game launched with problems.

and no the only people that think this game is a joke are people on message boards. Generally public doesn't give a shit. If they are interested in it they'll pick it up.

Again people said the same shit after the 3rd Uncharted 4 delay. It didn't stop people from being hyped.

Did uncharted have an event like this celebrating the release date? That also ignores the origin of this game starting 10 years ago.

The other difference is that uncharted is a franchise on the rise from one of the most respected developers in the business. It came off the back of 3 critically acclaimed games and wa selling more and more. FF is a brand on the decline which has lost much of its good will. This is supposed to be SE attempting tofu a sinking ship. This hardly sends a good message.

We'll have to wait and see but I also wonder how much a 2 month delay will achieve anyway. My guess is this game will get delayed again not only for polishing but so it doesn't get lost in the Christmas rush.

Square just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by delaying your games over and over. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Final Fantasy XV for either system, nor will they purchase any of Square's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Square has alienated an entire market with this move.

Square, publicly apologize and reverse the delay for Final Fantasy XV, or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Gamenesia are journalists now? Besides, they explicitly mention Gamestop themselves. I don't know the sources these other sites are reporting on, since they only name them as "sources".

The Gematsu source is the most reliable one, currently. Yet there's conflicting reports, as I said. Anyone taking the news as fact may be right, but they're still fools.

Well, someone is the fool here...

The Uncovered event kicked the marketing campaign for the game and it didn't focus only on the release date (which was merely a "you'll get to play FFXV finally THIS year" moment. The date could have been December 29th and it would have made the same impact). The event put the game back into the mainstream focus and also served as an introduction for the whole transmedia universe. I think the release date was one of the least important details shared that day.

The Uncovered event really got under people's skin. It was more than just a release date reveal. Then again people also called the event useless when Gamespot leaked the date back then so I'm not too surprised.

Yes but a delay AFTER such a high profile event opens more eyes in a more negative way.

5-6M copies LTD? I doubt it. Especially if the PC release happens in the first year.

PC release is a wild card to be sure, I think they really should have been there day 1.

I think the Xbox version will sell like absolute crap and Japan numbers to tank while US and EU numbers will not tank but still fall short.

Uncharted 4 had a new trailer and a good deal of footage at both the Game Awards and Playstation Experience where they doubled down on its March 18th date (after the game had already been pushed from holiday 2015) and then not even 3 weeks later they delayed it again.

Nobody ever brings that up because it's completely trivial in the long run.

I mean they were off target on their roadmap and they'll face the consequences. The implication that the event solely existed for a release date is hilarious, though.

Oh. My. God.

The Last Guardian might actually release before this game..... The Last Fucking Guardian...

Ray-Liotta-Laughing-In-Goodfellas-Gif.gif

Both projects have been in development for a decade, though. I mean... It's not like TLG releasing first than this thing is some huge embarrassment.

Holy shit. My mom came into my room to bring me a plate of chicken nuggets and I literally screamed at her and hit the plate of chicken nuggets out of her hand. She started yelling and swearing at me and I slammed the door on her. I'm so distressed right now I don't know what to do. I didn't mean to do that to my mom but I'm literally in shock from the news tonight. I feel like I'm going to explode. Why the fucking fuck is this game delayed? This can't be happening. I'm having a fucking breakdown. I don't want to believe the world is so corrupt. I want a future to believe in. I want Final Fantasy in September. I cannot fucking deal with this right now. It wasn't supposed to be like this, I thought Tabata had it under control???? This is so fucked.

Let's be honest, that's nowhere near the same thing as having an entire event dedicated to the release date of the game. Sure, there were other reveals during the event, but the release date was saved for last, the spot for the most important reveal.

It doesn't matter. The uncovered event revealed more than just a release date. It still applies. Games announce release dates all the time and said game still ends up delayed. Games in general need to stop doing this imo.

10 years and people are still hyped for this game 2 or 4 more months isn't going to kill them. They'll still get the game when it's out.

You say it doesn't send a good message but would message would it send to release a game that's just not up to par technically? That to me is far more damaging than fixing up what they can and make sure that it at least runs smoothly.

Things WERE locked in stone at the time. They did not lie about the date any more than Neil Druckmann lied that Uncharted 4 would be out in holiday 2015. Game development is hard. Shit happens at the last minute that nobody could have ever predicted. The tiniest of changes can produce the most massive and wide-spreading of glitches.

I think frustration is a-okay, but criticizing a developer for trying to make a more polished thing seems counterproductive. That's just me though.

Dude cmon clearly the game was rough behind the scenes and they thought they could do it by September. Clearly not.

The engine is running like a dog, its not as if its just some game breaking bugs. They literally have to improve on performance. Performance doesn't equal a bug, it equals poor optimisation or not enough time to fully optimise.

If there were more announcements than just the release date then by definition it wasn't an event solely for that.

Yeah, they did, and sometimes things don't go according to plan. Doesn't mean that it's a lie.

People trying to downplay the uncovered event as if the date wasn't the most important thing they announced.

C'mon son, stop lying to yourself.
