this self perpetuated prophecy downgrade stuff is more than anything just really boring

people did the exact same thing with witcha 3 ffs, it's such a tiring, cynical, neverending cycle

hey, i get it, publishers are scummy and use vertical slice footage as final game material, but man i find people gloating on the look of the final result is almost as depressing

i would love a version of the world in which gamers gave publishers less reasons to market their games around polygons and shaders and shit and shit.

My issue with that line of thinking, is it's not consistent with development realities. These vertical slices are created years prior to a game's release with a reasonable target for development. Of course, that doesn't take into account the years of development where the game could easily change path, the decisions made in the vertical slices were not realistic, or they flat ran out of time/money to implement, ultimately, superficial features.

To a degree, No Man's Sky is a victim of this line of thinking. My biggest criticism of Sean is he should have kept his mouth shut on unfinished features during development. In the cut features thread, it's clear many of them can be attributed to small team and lack of time (missing content, features, lack of ship configurations, etc).
Now, for a guy whose largest criticism is he couldn't keep his mouth shut during development, the complete lack of communication could be attributed to Sony keeping him contractually silent.

Rob Fearon (Death Ray Manta dev), says this same thing across 3000 words. Worth reading (as is almost everything Rob writes about games).

My journey continued in FF14 on the quest to get my chocobo which meant I had to continue doing main story quests, I plowed through all the text cause i got sick of all the talking and no chocobo. One quest stuck out to me tho, I got transported to this really tiny map after being captured by beastmen, the only way out was to do another party quest, the quest took some time because i had to wait to get into a party and I had nothing to do in game since i couldn't leave the current map. Once I did get through I did probably the best quest in the game since i started playing, i fought Ifrit!

Apparently this dude is a primal and was the second one i fought? I don't even know who the first one was, idk, maybe it was veggie (for those who forgot or don't know what freshveggie looks like in game (which is also modeled after what he looks like in real life) heres a quick refresher:
I want to fight more of these primals, I'm starting to get interested in where this story is going, things are finally starting to happen. Anyway, after that it was time to pick a Grand Company, this is it. All my playtime led to this one quest which will lead to my future chocobo and I finally being together, I had to travel to the 3 different regions in the game cause fuck how else are we going to make you waste time, right? Nothing of note happened while visiting the regions to besides some twin elves that who i could have sworn were both girls talking a lot of shit and acting like know it alls talking to me about each company's flag as if I asked them for their insight in the first place (spoiler: I didn't). However while visiting the cat lady's region it was time for me to turn in a quest there that i finished ages ago but never got around to turn in, it was the dude that allows you to redesign your hair which is neat and all but I felt really bad for the girl he used his techniques on, he gave her that disgusting Lightning hair.

I vomited a little, honestly don't think you can trust this man with your hair if he thinks thats an upgrade
I ended up going with the yellow guys (i forget their name) since thats where the Lancer guild is at- and its my class. Once I turned in the quest all i could think of was finally, this is it, make me king and give me my chocobo. Unfortunately the company had other plans for me, it wanted me to pay for my damn chocobo with their shit propriety currency, what a bunch of assholes. You need 200 of their shitty currency to get a mount but i fucked up and read it as 2000 so i said to myself "oh nah", it was at this moment I decided to go grind out yokai coins to prepare for my next mount while also getting some of their company $ to get my regular mount, kill 2 birds with one stone, right? I finally saved up the 2k and once I went to redeem my points on a chocobo you could imagine I was a bit salty once i noticed it was 200 instead of 2k. I make my short walk to the chocobo keeper to claim my prize, i earned it, no, i DESERVE IT, i said to myself.
It was time to name my chocobo I was giddy with excitement, my love for Jojo's Bizarre Adventure's Gyro Zeppeli led me to name my mount the name he gave to his horse, Valkyrie.

As I sat here, amazed that I finally got my mount i couldn't help to think to myself that well...

Whats next for Valkyrie and I you ask? Now that we're finally together at last we'll continue with our grinding of yokai coins to receive the special ghost mount.

IGN Germany - Deus Ex Mankind Divided Review

8/10

+ Much freedom
+ Improved gameplay mechanics
+ Exciting side quests
+ Breach mode

- Disappointing main story

<translation>FINAL THOUGHTS

In Deus Ex: Mankind Divided the name says it all. Because it is the fans column and let me also back with two opinions. In continuation of the successful history of Human Revolution is part of four a huge disappointment. It starts very well, but degenerates into a very inconsequential story in which the abrupt end is only symbolic of all gave away chances. On the other hand Mankind Divided shines with an improved in all aspects of gameplay. Sneaking is still one joy and the shooter mechanics was perfect upgraded. Along with the large level makes Deus Ex 4 just plain fun and is complemented by the Breach mode to an entertaining component. Whether ye Deus Ex: should buy Mankind Divided, is located on one question: What do you expect? If you want an exciting conspiracy story with great final, part four is not necessarily something for you. If you like the pure gameplay and freedom of choice in proceedings, then you can safely access.

I'll say DMC4SE is way better than 3 on PC because even with mods 3 is garbage on Steam.

You think that's bad; you should try out the Steam version of Onimusha 3!

Any recommendations from the Capcom sale? I skipped the PS3/360 gen entirely except for Wii so I never played most of these. How is the new Strider? Apparently it crashes a lot? Most of the reviews for all of these titles are pretty mixed to bad...

All the mainline Resident Evil games is all you need.

For most games, a nonsensical story is a bad thing. For Deus Ex, it could be a positive and would be fitting in the series.

I'd love it if Deus Ex MD is one of those games that lets people's choices result in the game ending far sooner than it should. Love games that do that (for good reason though rather than for the sake of it)

I missed out on cheap Deux Ex (twice! thought I already had the first obviously.).

GMG is still fairly cheap vs everywhere else, even though it isn't quite 40% anymore, 25% is still decent

The Steam equivalent of the drunk friend who keeps offering to pay your tab all night.
watching Red Dead Redemption's Honest Trailer, that game STILL looks great. Where the fuck is out PC version already

Psh, you've got mobile companies looking to buy you out. You should be throwing a SteamGAF party on your mega yacht and buying us all Ferraris as party favors. ; )

Seriously, though, happy birthday, man. : )

My favorite audio commentary has to be the one for Supernatural where Jensen Ackles goes "And at the end of the shooting day, we jump into our ten Masarati's".

Thanks.

Cheaper on Games Republic now $39.99 USD https://isthereanydeal.gamesrepublic.com/game/rpg,deus-ex-mankind-divided,12659.html

Doesnt mention pre-order bonuses however comments say they are included...

Come closer to release it should be more talked about.

Now, if only there would be a decent discount somewhere so I can pick it up.

not expecting any really worthwhile discounts until closer to release

it's possible it could be bundled with new GPUs (thought Deus Ex would be too but it wasn't so no idea)

glad I was able to pick up Mankind Divided before they fixed their mistake

Before the fixed it, I sent a CS request about buying the game from them months and months ago for $10 more the first CS guy said he could credit me the difference, which is fine by me, but I was out and took a few hours to reply and now I haven't heard a peep.

I swear if they don't give me that credit I'm done with GMG, and if they do... well I'll still be cautious with early preorders.

No "hype" for Mafia 3 on GAF makes me sad :(

I am very excited for it! Mafia III and Watch Dogs 2 have me all set for open world games in the fall (with some dabbling into Skyrim's special edition, most likely). But yeah, the threads die surprisingly fast, which is no fun.

Did anybody here happen to try Looterkings yet?

It's a procedurally generated co-op dungeon crawler that's been released in Early Access this week. The lead dev is a well-known German youtuber/streamer and it's funded by the most popular German Let's Players, so I expect it to be heavily hyped and to sell like hot bread over here. No idea if it's actually a good game though. Looks kinda neat but not spectacular by any means.

I mean i know that Mafia 3 is just another open world game for some but so far from trailers atmosphere is amazing, every character from trailer has really good voice actor behind it and it looks like that game has good writing too. Add to that amazing soundtrack and not to bad graphics game is shaping up to be really solid and mature crime game.

And another sad thing is that NMS reached 700+K sold copies on first day and this game that has much more content and it is way more interesting won't reach that in few months (even that is questionable).

I'm interested in Mafia 3. I'm just so behind on games (I'm only now playing Shadow of Mordor) that I don't want to muster up too much excitement for something I won't play for a long time.z

Seems odd to me to compare Mafia 3 and No Man's Sky though when the context of each game's content is so very different for experience. I wouldn't go into Mafia 3 for example wanting an exploration game where I can casually sit back and listen to podcasts while I discover new vistas after all, as that would be more interesting to me at that specific time as it would be my desire.

wow I didn't know Capcom was in the political game as well

It takes political Guile to get far.
