You know I posted about the gleam thing earlier. Should have got it from the horses mouth really as it makes for more interesting reading: https://gleam.io/docs/updates

So Valve were the ones that triggered this (by blocking gleam.io urls and making it so gleam.io can't authenticate via Steam) but I'm thinking gleam might have wanted to do something for a while given their final reason:

I'm guessing up to means the biggest surge when it a giveaway is launched and several corners of the web find out about it and all jump in.

To me, the more important point is this one:

Some of these groups are actively blackmailing developers for keys

Pretty god-awful. :/

They have done many things, like limit number of actions, but sites did find ways around those. So they ruined it themselfes.

Is the 2nd gigantic GIF you posted from a direct feed video or are you making a GIF off of a 480p YT video @_@

I took it from FFXV thread, but the final quality of the game is very shitty, just see the direct feed screens I posted yesterday or so.

JaseC

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
Dang missed it XO
Ah well games republic it is then~

I'll grab the season pass when it goes for silly cheap during a sale.

EDIT: OH COME ON GAMES REPUBLIC WON'T LET ME REGISTER CUZ OF MY REGION WHAT THE HELL.

GR is only selling post-release keys, anyway. DL Gamer is your best option if you want the pre-order incentives, as far as authorised sellers are concerned.

So I want to play Splinter Cell Double Agent (Steam), but how do I change the settings? I know it's in the registry but where do I find this file?

Hmm yeah their price is OK. Thanks for the link. Playfield.io doesn't have it yet. I might bite on DLGamer after the reviews are out.

So I found out how to change the visual settings and resolution, but where do I go to change the AF through the driver? A guide says: "AnisotropyDegree=1 ;=> AF is broken in the game. Force AF through the driver"

[edit] So after having changed the .ini settings and starting up Double Agent, I am met with a black screen, and this message. I have no idea what it means.

Are you under warranty?

Probably still have time left on the warranty, but I don't think I could take the wait for it to be replaced/fixed since I'd end without a usable PC for a while.

And since problems never come alone, now whenever I start a program the HDD reads/writes like crazy and stuff takes long to load. Running tests on the HDD, it comes off clean so it shouldn't be breaking but I can't point out what is the issue. A few internet searches point to Windows Defender/MSE, and I did update MSE yesterday, but even disabling/uninstalling them has solved nothing.

So its Capcom week.

And I want Lost Planet Colonies... but it has GFWL still, but the non-Colonies version doesn't.

Do I want to fuck with it? Will Capcom finally remove it?

The language from the NieR announcement seems to imply that Square may be shifting strategies to a day and date release strategy with PC.

Intentionally delaying the PC version due to piracy concerns is not only unjustifiable, but it also damages potential revenue as the PC version misses out on marketing and media presence from the console release.

Don't fuck with it.
I doubt Capcom will do anything about the situation, I don't really blame them either as it's not financially viable.

Non-Colonies it is.

I played over 100 hours on 360 of Colonies and got basically all the cheevos.

Any recommendations from the Capcom sale? I skipped the PS3/360 gen entirely except for Wii so I never played most of these. How is the new Strider? Apparently it crashes a lot? Most of the reviews for all of these titles are pretty mixed to bad...

Dragon's Dogma for only 17.99 is a damn good deal. Everyone needs to get on it. Not only is the game very good but the pc port is 5 stars. Also most of SteamGAF already has the game and played it for a good amount. So if a lot of your friend list has the game you can get yourself an overpowered pawn and have a ton of fun just steamrolling through everything.

Hmm, it might be interesting, GAME FREAK made an amazing game like Pocket Card Jockey too, so I'd be willing to try it out. How was Tembo the Badass Elephant anyways? I haven't gotten to play it.

Street Fighter X Tekken is good if you can play it offline with friends.
There is an Easy Input option that you can enable using the Gem system.

All Resident Evil games are worth picking up far as I can tell.

SF5 is good too if you like casual play offline or playing with GAFfers online. Has a modding community too.

Dragon's Dogma DA is a great port and you can restore the original main theme.

DMC4SE and DmC '13 are good action games.

DuckTales Remastered is a nice platformer, you can skip cutscenes by pausing the game as well.

Dungeons & Dragons is a duo of Capcom's BEST Beat'em-ups. I strongly recommend giving it a chance.

Lost Planet 3 has a good story and characters, though the gameplay is servicable.

Megaman Legacy collection is an OK compilation of the original 6 games.

Strider 2014 is a decent metroidvania style game.

The Bionic Commando bundle is worth it; you get the 3d action game and remarded is the best 2d bionic commando game to date.

Wow, thanks for these recs!

I have one recommendation from the Capcom sale.

Also a little mad that Sfxt is still quite a bit with that DRM.

Edit: I didn't scroll far enough, get the Resident Evil Origins bundle.

this self perpetuated prophecy downgrade stuff is more than anything just really boring

people did the exact same thing with witcha 3 ffs, it's such a tiring, cynical, neverending cycle

hey, i get it, publishers are scummy and use vertical slice footage as final game material, but man i find people gloating on the look of the final result is almost as depressing

i would love a version of the world in which gamers gave publishers less reasons to market their games around polygons and shaders and shit and shit

DX: HR seems to have done this weird boom and bust hype cycle, kind of like Mass Effect. Everyone loved it in the beginning, then everyone realized the boss battles sucked and the ending(s) was total BS, plus there was the Letitia thing. Now there seems to be some strange nostalgia for it again.

Hmm, I wonder if they have any plans on keeping the prequel canon stuff going or have they just ditched the JC Denton stuff by now.
the game got its amount of flak about boss fights or LOL ZOMBIES at the time, but it also was a pretty good version of what a deus ex of this age looks like, all things considered

Oh yeah, I literally just bought it from GMG (can always sell my key if it goes bust) but I'm just telling folks for the future.

Almost 5 days to tell me that, lol.
preordering games is always stupid, that's for sure, but that's a real bummer that gmg went super random price drop on release

i always wait until the last day cos whatever, why give publishers my money in advance

"Portal Stories: Mel" team are now an Indie studio - making a new VR game:

The future of Prism Studios and our next game!
18 AUGUST - ANNA

Hey everyone!

We're incredibly excited to announce that we've made the leap from mod team to an indie studio!
Recently we've started to work on our first brand new game!

The game is called DR01D!

13988079_1589546664672868_6737760248191041166_o.jpg

DR01D is a VR first person puzzle game with a strong narrative, based around solving puzzles simultaneously alongside robot companions who you direct about the map to help you complete tasks, retrieve objects etc. The game takes place in the future, you are part of an advanced AI tasked with fixing your space station after it suffered damage during a meteor storm that has wiped out life on Earth. You will do training puzzles before going down to and fix the station. We're still very early in production so we don't have too many more details to share with you!

I played through the new Strider with little issue. It's a service title. It feels good, plays good, but I still thought it was pretty meh. The level design, bosses, and enemy encounters were lacking. Great speed though.

My recommendations.

DMC4SE - Still the most indepth action title to date. I won't say it's better than DMC3SE, but the mechanics in there are far more refined than DMC3SE. You don't need to be overly skilled to beat the title, but it offers a Quake like skill gap so you can continue to grow well after 100's of hours of play.

Lost Planet - Go with the original over the sequels. LP2 is a fantastic game, the issue is you need coop for it to be a fantastic game and it's dead. LP3 has a serviceable story, but the gameplay is amazingly poor in comparison to the previous two. LP1 has a great single player campaign. Understand this though, it's more designed to be a score attack game. You're always rushing against the clock.

Resident Evil 4 - Any of them are great. 4,5,6,REmake, Zero. And each one is wildly different than the next. 4 is still the best action adventure game to date. It's a 20 hour campaign with great levels, encounters, puzzles, and combat. It's still the most universally loved game on Gaf, or as close too.

Dragon's Dogma - Watch this. You can buy it now

Think Elder Scrolls with a focus on gameplay and an amazing combat system.

Well, to be honest the ending(s) nailed the original's ending(s) pretty well. lol

I don't even remember the zombies TBH.

I'll say DMC4SE is way better than 3 on PC because even with mods 3 is garbage on Steam.

3 was a half ass port done by a shit company. Same ones that did Chaos Legion and the original RE4 port.

DMC4 was done by in house Capcom, whose only mistake with their PC titles has been having GFWL in a few. But they switched a while back.

If the title is an MF Framework engine(Their in house), it was designed first on PC and ported down to consoles. Hence why titles using it run beautiful.

Yeah, I know. DMC4SE is beautiful.

A shame they never redid the HD Collection on PC :/

I just don't get the joy some people seem to take in pointing out how certain titles aren't going to live up to expectations. Okay, so it doesn't look as good as the promos. So? The lesson is that maybe people ought to pay less attention to alpha and concept footage and hold off judgment until the game's actually close to dropping. I just look stuff like this and think, "You'd think everybody would've learned by now".
