Kimishima will parachute out of a plane onto the platform, knock the torches out of the carriers' hands and replace them with the NX device. In the mass confusion, the camera will focus on Kimishima in between it all and as silence falls as people see who the perpetrator was, he takes out a microphone and says "NX is out now". He drops the microphone and a helicopter piloted by ninjas suddenly appears overhead and drops a ladder. He grabs on and goes back to Nintendo HQ.

Trump in the morning will go on to say we need to build a wall around Nintendo.

As we wait for Hot Chips and the NX announcement, I advise everyone to heed the lessons of South Park episodes "Go God Go" and "Go God Go XII," in which Cartman freezes himself as he cannot take the six week wait until the launch of the Wii. NX will be here soon enough...sure hope it's this week though.

Nintendo just announced that they've gotten $661M from the Mariners sales which should probably put them in a good place while the NX launches.
I kind of hope they put some of that into NX marketing. Sony's marketing budget for PS4 was 100 Million dollars which i imagine Nintendo's budget, in comparison, couldn't hope to compete. They need to get it right out of the gate, hope they do.

I hope they use some of it to market the damn thing well.

Edit: Well now I feel silly since you edited your post to include marketing talk lol.

I'm not really expecting other officially announced news from Nintendo today.

Either wait for Nvidia at Hot Chips (although we're not going to hear NX) for tomorrow or hope for a leak on any Nintendo invitations to press.

Agreed. My own theory is that they're going to wait until the Neo is revealed until saying anything, so after September 7th.

The fact that Mario showed up was cool tho, Nintendo defo more lenient with their IP these days. Mario was pretty prominent in the closing too which shows just how powerful the brand is.

I can tell that's a pet peve of yours :p

I'm starting to feel like Hideki Kamiya when my Twitter feed last night was filled with him correcting Japanese people by saying, "Platinum Games" because they kept saying, "Platina Games" according to the translation. I don't know if it has to do with the Katakana or whatever it's called.

Come on, Nintendo, announce the big NX Extravaganza now whilst everyone's hyped. Do it, show us that you have a clue!

Actually, you know what? This isn't exactly hard logic, but I'd actually put good money that it will happen around the 13th anyway.

I don't remember the exact dates, but the Nintendo reps have their annual national conference sometime in September this year, which will be the best opportunity for them to explain their marketing and sales strategy to the reps.

However, Nintendo also generally doesn't like telling reps anything major in advance. Which means that, to me, it's pretty likely we'll see a mid-September reveal just before they fly all the reps to their secret undisclosed location.

I mean the 13th would basically mean invites have to go out this week. People need lead times for plans.

Not if it will be a live-streamed presentation, rather than a press event. Not claiming any inside info or anything, I'm just saying, if Nintendo is doing a life-streamed presentation they wouldn't need to invite anyone.

Of course, doing that alone would be INCREDIBLY stupid, but like I said earlier I could potentially see them doing an initial presentation to reveal it before sending out invites to a hands-on press event where they reveal more info. If Nintendo is concerned about secrecy, that's the best way to guarantee you'll catch everyone off guard.

It's also why I think it'll be early/mid September, because knowing Nintendo there's no chance they'll let the reps know about it before the general public. Too big of a chance the info gets out (a fair concern, tbh).

It has to do with how japanese, for one reason or another, adopted platinum as a loanword but they say it like platina. Officially, platinum is pronounced platina over there. But kamiya is being anal about how P* uses a more accurate pronunciation of the word for their company name.

If we flipped the scenario, it would be like if the owner of restaurant called "Karate'k Out" got annoyed by people calling it "kuh-rot-eke out" when it was supposed to sound like "kara-take out"

There are two follow-up blog posts (here and here), which I'd argue are actually the more interesting ones, as they demonstrate how, even when operating ostensibly at the same precision, two devices can behave in very different ways depending on various aspects of their implementation (rounding modes and subnormal numbers being his two examples). This is particularly pertinent to the use of FP16 in graphics, as implementation of things like rounding and subnormals can vary a lot from one mobile GPU to another, and they could mean the difference between a pixel shader producing accurate results or not.

Thanks for these too! Great stuff. This is really reassuring on FP16 usage, as Nvidia have put good focus on that with Maxwell and Pascal archs I believe, especially for their focus on self-driving and AI where I assume fast FP16 but crucial accuracy is very important in those fields.

They don't need that $661 million, when they already have something like $5.5 billion in cash, $11 billion in total assets. Nintendo could spend however much they wanted on marketing.

There's pretty much always a hands on press event to go along with these types of things. They're not doing just a stream.

do we know what the value of nintendo's total assets were before wiids?

They have been pretty consistent with their assets (source):

Total Assets (March 31, 2005): $11.245 billion USD (1.132492 trillion Yen)
Cash/Cash Equivalents (March 31, 2005): $7.873 billion USD (792.728 billion Yen)

Sony things are leaking left and right. Mario at the Olympics. Mariners being sold off. It all feels like we're building up to something big like an NX announcement!

No we're not *cries*

I guess we can't doubt Takashi MOCHIZUKI when I brought up his WSJ articles about the NX being a hybrid. He definitely has his insiders because he just wrote an article now about there is a PS4 Neo and a PS4 slim being revealed.

Of course I could be wrong because I am just making baseless speculations. lol

When did he say the NX was a hybrid? I thought he reported the NX consisted of at least two parts and one of them was mobile? This was why we all thought there would be a NX console and a NX handheld.

I know I'm late to the party but I just want to stop and take a moment to laugh heartily at whoever posted that shit on 4Chan to begin with.

I mean, there's some dumb but almost sorta kinda plausible stuff on that list - like the name of the console, or two Smash games dropping at once.

Animal Crossing: Election Year
is HYSTERICAL, though. That's the type of shit that only stupid falls for.
Honestly, I can believe everything in the rumor...except no Inklings in Smash. I mean Sakurai gonna Sakurai but by this point that would be the most confusing thing I've seen done in awhile if Inklings aren't in Smash 5.

But it doesn't mention a Sony portable. That likely means that the portable from the other thread is NX, which means that NX has a 7-inch screen? Team 540p looking weak.

By the way, using the Shield Tablet K1 as a starting point I came to the conclusion that 450-520 GFLOPS may be possible in a 7-inch tablet that draws no more than 5.5W for the whole unit. I used the K1 because it's easier to find exact GPU efficiency differences that way.

Edit: Checked the thread. Nowhere does it say 7 inches. Liar.
