Deus Ex: Mankind Divided PC performance thread

The performance is a little disappointing with high end hardware but I don't think it's really on Nixxes too much there. More on the engine Eidos made for this game is probably just really resource hungry. Same way Hitman doesn't run that good and is on same basic engine.

i5 6600k
970
16 gb ram
1080p

the steam in-game fps counter seemed to hover right around 60 - 70. The benchmark said my lowest fps was around 38, with gsync I think i will be ok with leaving the settings as is. The graphics look pretty damn good imo.

Anyone manage to get good framepacing?? It's my biggest issue with the port right now - completely stopping me from playing.

I've tried turning all the settings to low and the pacing is still off at 60fps. I've tried using RTSS but no luck.

Also, while fiddling around with RTSS and the Nvidia Control Panel, I've noticed that the control panel vsync settings don't seem to work, anyone else having this problem? When I set the vsync option to adaptive half refresh rate, I'm actually getting around 45fps and no tearing, rather than 30fps which is half my refresh rate. Really weird, especially as the settings are low enough that I should get way north of 60.

Also if I set RTSS to cap the frame rate to say 31fps, and then use double buffered vsync (ingame and/or in control panel) I am getting 31fps rather than 30?! It's as though tripple buffered is enabled.

Bleh, I've had enough of frame pacing issues on PC.

Hopefully the DX12 version is well implemented.

This video would've have been better served captured at a higher bitrate or uploaded at a higher resolution to compensate somewhat for the he compression, but it has FPS comparisons of each setting with what seems to be an i7 6700K @ 4.0 GHz.

I have the same problem and it's extremely annoying, i had to stop playing. Also that fucking box on the right that says "hold T to unmark all". Unmark what? I don't want to unmark anything, i just want that shit to disappear for good.

Is there any fix for this?

EDIT: for those who have the same problem, i managed to make the message disappear by completing an objective in a quest. No clue about the "T to unmark" one. It's just there.

Fucks sake, so many bugs - another one to avoid - for some reason in some scenarios you can press V to access the quick equipment menu thing, then press escape, which brings up the game menu. Try and return to the game and the equipment screen is locked on screen, and you can't get the mouse to show up or the menu to interact. You are locked in position and can't do anything other than access the game menu....

stupid
So it wasn't just me being a dumbo who got himself stuck in a game menu. I ran into this too.
Hope I'll wake up to a patch that fixes some of these annoyances tomorrow.

the expected AMD wins. dx12 will probably add 10 to 15% more for AMD

Seriously, wtf is this "unmark all" business. Unmark what?

I'll post more on my sepcs later but apparently mt GTX 970M allows me to run the game, at best, with everything Set to Low ToT
This game really needs a 30 FPS limit option, at least I can enjoy the fab graphics with a decent framerate that way.

Setting it to adaptive (half-refresh rate) in the NV control panel worked for me. I think.

I haven't had any crashes in the 5 or so hours I've played.

For such a complex CHS implementation costing my 1080 some 50% of performance they sure don't care much about those sun shadows.
Some of the sun shadow maps are really low resolution, yes. The only obvious visual blemish I've seen so far in an otherwise beautiful game.

Definitely frame pacing/stuttering issues at 60fps.

Have you tried forcing vsync externally? It fixed the stuttering for me.

Are you running the most recent drivers? I'm on 368. Might update if it mitigates the crashing (though I've only had one up to Prague).

Aside from the Prague subway crash, I've been free from issues. Game looks great and runs great for me.

Now the problem is THIS FUCKING "T (HOLD) TO UNMARK ALL". WHY WON'T IT GO AWAY.

No fixes for the 87% preload bug?

Is it actually a bug?

My game has been decrypting for like 30 minutes so far (yeah, I have a pretty old hdd). But I see my hdd space moving up and down, so I guess it's actually working.

Yes. Updated today while waiting for it to unlock.

That's actually the only annoying issue I have with the game so far :p
It is annoying though.

How about the mouse acceleration issue that I've been hearing?
I'm just curious as I'm planning to use a gamepad, actually.

Just a quick note on contact hardening shadows. This is only one area, but I think it's safe to say that CHS implementation in this game can't be considered ready for prime time quite yet.

Everything is maxed out, 1440p, TAA, motion blur/sharpening off.

dPRD.png

CHS disabled.

ORqJ.png

CHS (Ultra) enabled.

So not only does it have a 12-15 fps performance cost over "off," but it seems to have an issue with rendering shadows in the distance when enabled. That, and even the in-game description for the settings says it doesn't apply to all light sources, as a previous image posted on this thread shows off.

Something to consider if you have it enabled.

Oh, and on another note, I did some tests, and it appears POM has almost zero performance cost; not sure how they achieved that.

Is there any reason why you wouldn't want to be running the newest drivers?

Sometime back some of the updates were messing with people's computers, mine included. Certain games would lock to like 20fps, and rolling back the driver was the only thing that helped. (For awhile, so many updates later they fixed it)

The game is well optimized, I'm really certain that MSAA is the real culprit of everyone's problems here.

Nice. This is inline with what I am getting on the GTX 1060 at 1080p and the same settings, though it is more variable getting between 50-100fps, almost always above 60 at any time though

With a 30hz target, what settings would do for a 2gb 770? Got a friend using that card. I heard that you get ~60fps with flat medium settings but I'm assuming a mix of high and ultra is possible for 30.

What CPU are you using by any chance? I have a GTX 1060 too and if I can run this at max with a few settings turned down at a stable 60FPS, I might consider getting this game on a sale.

R9 280, FX-8320 and 8gb ram.

1080p, Texture Quality High, everything else Medium or Off.
First level mostly solid 60fps, Prague area 48-60fps.

It runs "OK" on my system. Definitely playable. No crashing or bad stuttering so far.

Just a note about the crashes people are getting after the Prague strain station section. First it's bull that you can skip it when your in it and a patch needs to come out ASAP.

Having said that, after going through the that scene for the fourth time I finally got it working. I updated my chipset driver, put my virus scanner on game mode and played it in exclusive fullscreen mode.

Hope this helps anyone who is stuck on this bit.

Is that with it set to on? or Ultra?

Any reason you can't install RTSS and use that to limit?

I7-3770k, GTX 970, 16 GB RAM.

So before my impression on the performance, I'd like to say that my FPS are locked on 60, mostly because of my monitor with its 60hz. So idk if the game reaches more than 60 fps, but it probably does as it's hitting the 60 a good amount of the time.

I'm having a good experience so far, not going lower than 45 fps, but it runs on 60 fps the major part of the time.

Everything is basically set on Very High with some changes here and there (No MSAA for example), but I'm satisfied with the performance so far.

Just echoing the SLI scaling problem that others have been experiencing with single card performance being better than SLI.
I'm having the same problem with:

372.54 driver
2 GTX 970s
0x080000F5 bits

I'm going through different bits manually to see if I can find anything at all with better performance for now but it's a slow process and I doubt I'll find anything.

Goddamnit these stubborn things on screen that won't go away. First it was "Hold Y to unmark all" and now I got a giant fucking banner tutorial stuck on the screen telling me to disable an aug. So annoying, there are way too many pop ups and shit during the early hours of this game.

I'll give you two more:
A. They tried so hard to push all the assets into 4GB VRAM limit (thank to Fiji's HBM probably) that most of game's textures are pretty crappy by modern standards.
B. TAA is ghosting hard in some scenes, easily visible in motion and on a simple 60Hz display. An example is the dialog with the cultist guy at the ground floor of Jensen's Prague apartment.

I could add C. the excessive usage of POM on a highly displaced surface but this seems to be an isolated case. Would still look a lot better with a proper geometry displacement with tessellation though.

Well, and the CHS implementation which should've been called not Contact Hardening Shadows really but Distance Gaussian Blurring Shadows judging from how they tend to nearly disappear in some 100m from a light source - along with a good chunk of processing power of your GPU.

Can you set the textures to very high on a 970? It gives a warning that 4GB of Vram is required. Also, is there a notable difference between high and very high on texture quality?

You can try, VRAM usage is very conservative here and chances are that these warnings will only make sense in DX12 renderer where the game must manage the resources instead of the DX11 driver so a lack of 4GBs may lead to serious issues.

1080p, running ultra with all settings on, except MSAA set to 0. I'm getting a perfectly locked 60fps during gameplay.

MSAA completely murders the framerate, though.

Played through the tutorial, arrived in Prague, and I'm now looking for the guy to fix my HUD. I get between 40-50fps with almost everything on High, except for ambient occlusion which is at Very High, and no SMAA (temporal instead).

The mouse aiming feels off though, not sure why...
