Spider-Man 2 is the GOAT Comic Book Movie

Hell no, Dark Knight is by far the best CBM. It's so good, it's one of the best movies this century. Spiderman 2 is up there with Winter Soldier and to a lesser degree First Class as the top tier movies.

Never understood why people like 2 more than one. Norman Osborne is a much more interesting villain, and the story is more focused in the first one. 2 is a good film, but for me its not as joyous or enjoyable as the first.

I have the opposite opinion. Otto looks way cooler than awful Green Goblin, he's also a better character, action scenes are ridiculously more engaging etc

Thank you for this thread, I can't unhear Danny Elfman's theme now.
The aftermath of the train scene is to me still the best of the genre. It's so moving and is the perfect representation of what Spider-Man is about: an everyman that does what he has to do, one train at a time and people love him for it.
What Sony did with Spider-Man 3 and onwards was a crime.

Marvel has definitely done a better job of sticking as close as possible to source material in their movies than Raimi's spider man movies, but as a movie, 2 just creams literally everything they've done. It succeeds as a movie more than it does fan service, and I can't always say that about every marvel film.

But hey, what do I know: I honestly think Iron Man and The Avengers is way, way better than Civil War. I'm looking for different things than most people, though. I feel like a lot of marvel's movies pull punches when it comes to themes. I can easily look back at Spiderman 1 and 2 and say they faithfully stuck to a theme and embodied it in every character, scene, and decision. With stuff like Civil War... I dunno. There's attempts at themes, but they always stop short of following them entirely. They're still fun, but they lack the punch.

On Parker: Still don't get the hate for Maguire. I get that he's not like the comic books, but he suceeeds as a main character of the movies he's in (well, let's not talk about 3) I genuinely enjoyed his performances, and I think the only people who get bent out of shape are the ultra-anal comic book fans who need 1:1 translations.

Is it weird that I find Batman Begins to be the better Batman movie over The Dark Knight, TDK is a great movie but BB is a better Batman movie

Also they're both better than SM2

It's not that weird because Dark Knight's plot kind of goes off the rails and becomes kind of a mess after the chase scene/Joker escape. It's just masked by Ledger's performance.

Batman Begins was the only actual Batman movie made. TDK was a Joker movie and I dunno what Rises was except shit.

Batman and Bruce Wayne took the backseat in TDK. The Joker and Harvey Dent absolutely steal the show.

Yep Civil War retroactively put all previous Spiderman movies in the bin with the 70s Captain America movies.,

ASM series gets a good Spidey, but the movies got fucked studio wise. But I have to absolutely agree, Tom Holland is Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Excited more for the animated movie though.

Batman Begins is probably my favorite, Spider-Man 2 is for sure up there tho.
1. Batman Begins
2. The Dark Knight
3. Spider-Man 2
4. Winter Soldier

Winter Soldier is for sure a better movie than Civil War.

ASM had a decent Spidey and I liked Garfield but Maguire's Peter was a lot better. Hopefully Holland and Watts can get both right. Civil War was a good start.

Macguire was not Peter. He was a dumb loser who had super powers, the 3rd movie makes fun of him for having confidence outside the suit.

Lot of rose-tinting happens with this movie. Molina is great but the rest is pretty average to downright goofy in hindsight.

The train unmasking scene is also cheesy as hell, badly acted and cringy.

Lol none of the mcu movies are even remotely as good as Spidey 2 or the first 2 batmans in Nolan's trilogy.

Not even iron man. There's such a huge gulf in quality I think. Iron man definitely is the best to come out of marvel studios tho. The genre as a whole basically peaked in 08.

Yeah it's up there with the dark Knight as my favorite superhero movie.

Also I'm not a comic book reader, so the Tobey Maguire didnt portray Peter Parker right criticism never bothered me

I'll take iron man, cap, cap 2, cap 3, avengers, and guardians over raimi's schlock any day of the week

I wonder if we'll ever get an MCU movie on the level of Batman Begins/The Dark Knight. I want to see more auteristic superhero movies. That's why I loved the Raimi Spider-Man movies, they feel like Sam Raimi films. I guess they kinda tried with Avengers and Iron-Man 3, but Joss Whedon's not on that level and Shane Black shit the bed. Everything is just filtered through the MCU filter, nothing is really allowed to stand on its own. Actually Guardians kinda broke away from it a little, and that's why it's one of the better ones.

I think Black Panther with Ryan Coogler will be like that. Also I didn't like Guardians of the Galaxy all that much but it did feel like a James Gunn film.

it isn't cheesier than people on a cable railway throwing empty cans at Goblin because New York, though

It's because Marvel doesn't give a fuck about the directors.

It isn't even the best Spider-Man film.

Yeah, that's right! I dig the original film! Who wants a piece of me?!

I was going to include a section about how the Peter Parker/Spider-Man isn't at all accurate to the comic books but how I don't necessarily think that it matters that much. My only Spider-experience is the first 80 or so issues of Ultimate Spider-Man and the first 56 of the original run, and even though the films are clearly a take on the "original" Peter Parker they do fall quite flat. Though I loved the shot that's a homage to the Spider-Man No More! page in ASM #50.

Who Peter is in the comics shouldn't have a negative effect on who he is in the movie. Though I still like Fox's X-Men movies despite being in the middle of Claremont's run so what the hell do I know?

It's also kind of weird when stuff like GOTG seems to get pass when holy shit some of the characters could not be more different than the characters that were in something like Annihilation. But I understand Peter is far more beloved than Drax lol.

Edgar Wright's Ant Man could have been this.

Rewatched it recently and honestly didn't like it that much. I thought it was about as good as ASM1.

I think watching Spectacular Spider-man ruined all of the movies for me. None of them are close enough to what the character actually is. That said he was amazing in Civil War so I've got some hope for the new movie, even if RDJ will probably ruin some of it.

Spidey 2 used to be the best but I think it's since been eclipsed. The Dark Knight and Winter Soldier/Civil War were better for different reasons.

The original has better CGI somehow, better sustained shots of him swinging, and a more contained story. Raimi-Man2 has plot that happens because its supposed to. Doc needs to find spider man? Throw a car at your only source and hope he lives long enough or has spider senses so he can dodge, then ask questions. Not even gonna touch the reversion of Mary Jane.

Id like to think black panther but nah that will be a solid movie at best. At the end of the day these movies have to conform to the marvel brand that they've established with audiences

Ppl will say James Gunn and shane black and all that but they still felt like Marvel movies by the time the credits rolled. The Dark Knight is that ceiling of quality I just don't think the industry will allow anybody to touch at this point.
