I think $449 will capture an enthusiast portion of the market. Further, it'll naturally drop in price as well.

The additional dev work is going to be fairly minor, honestly. And I suspect the projects that make the most out of the hardware will mostly be first party.

$449 is reasonable

For me, if it's the hardware as known then $399 is the right price. But, they can easily sell at ~$499 for the first year then drop it when the Scorpio arrives for competitions sake.

This is a premium and optional device, plenty of people will pay a fee for that. Sony would be leaving money on the table at $399.

$299 PS4 and $499 Neo is my guess. With price cuts coming further down the road.

You're making me feel like an idiot.

It means that its far easier to get connections in hard to reach places and further distances than current PS4 and PS3, and it strengthens the signal your usually getting on PS4. That means faster and more quality download and upload speeds!

The Slim (and presumably Neo) is apparently gonna have AC wifi, which allows for much faster speeds. If you have a modern router, then the current PS4 likely isn't taking full advantage of the signal it's capable of spitting out.

My ADSL router is G. :D

It's a good thing my PC and PS4 are hooked up via LAN.

I don't think $399 is some magical threshold Sony is afraid of breaching. That number gets revised upwards with inflation, for one.

Secondly, Neo is not the PS5. It's not a completely different generation. So there's no need to be afraid of a high tier console when you have a much cheaper version on the market to continue to push sales.

By the time PS5 does come out, I would not be surprised to see it debut at a price greater than $399.
But technology gets cheaper at the same time. PlayStation launched at $299 and that was 21 years ago.

Okay thanks for the heads-up. I figured it just meant better, more reliable wifi. That's relevant to my interests as the wifi on my PS4 frequently drops out (though it's also an issue on my ISP's end). Still probably waiting for Neo rather than getting a slim at this point, but hopefully Neo follows suit.

Yeah I have a modem router and a really bad connection. It's fast when it's working but it drops every five minutes or so. I just ordered a new cable to try out just to rule that out, but it's incredibly frustrating.

I agree. This is a premium model with the world's fastest APU in it. I would expect them to price it above $399.

Yeah, the more I think the more I agree it is going to be more than $399. They have no reason to sell it for $399 right now. I can definitely see $449. It is a premium console for the hardcore community. The hardcore cummunity are willing to pay top price. For the casuals there will be PS4 Slim at $299 (or even $249, who knows?), so no worries there.

Yeah I am thinking the same thing. Milk it all you can for one year and then drop the price like a rock when Scorpio comes out.

For $450 they better not be cheaping out on build quality.

The original Playstation models I've always thought as having premium design and build quality. I wouldn't be worried about that. I think the design of it is going to blow people away if the vanilla PS4 is anything to go by (one of the best looking consoles ever).

My PS4 looks great, sounds like a jet engine, and my L3/R3 rubber came off less than 6 months after launch and my R2 button doesnt work correctly. I like Playstation as much as anyone, but they need to make sure this doesnt happen again.

5gigahertz dude!

5Ghz does not mean that the quality at end of the day is better.
Biggest disadvantage of 5Ghz in contrast to 2,4Ghz WLAN is the range.
Got the same "problem" in my room. For me 2,4Ghz has a much better speed since the Signal of 2,4Ghz is much better.

Another problem, at least in Germany (do not know how other countries handle it) is, that 5Ghz frequency is also used by radar (e.g. air traffic control, military). Since these services have a primary use of channel 50-140 it can happen, that the router has to change the channel to 36 to 48. Usually you should not notice any disconnect while that happens. Nevertheless I already got some disconnects due to the "DFE wait time".

At the end LAN is better than WLAN. Also for gaming. If there is not a chance to use a LAN Cable I would try DLAN before moving to WLAN.

My white PS4 is silent and I never notice it. You must be doing something wrong if it sounds like a jet engine.

It's not a mock up.. Sorry, I should be clear in what I mean. The drawing looks similar to their 4K blu Ray player.
uh that is not a 4k blu ray player. that is the 4k media box for the original Sony 4k tvs that came.out in 2013. I actually have one.

The consensus seems to be on a $249-299 Slim and a $399-449 NEO.

Personally I'm thinking they'll go for the clean $200 difference and make it a $249/$449 split.

I expect it to look like this. This is what the PSVR box looks like:

Wow, I've seen pictures of the 4k streaming box and the PSVR processing unit, but never saw the similarity!

The vertical split on the PSVR PU is to allow you to slide one half of the box back to let you plug in the HDMI/USB feed to the headset. Got that from that French YouTube video where they go through the little details of PSVR.

The guy made a mistake, not knowing that AC means 5GHz,

"Apologies, AC is 5ghz wifi." , while showing a screenshot with 2.4GHz

edit: or maybe i'm reading this wrong
