The Korean video game website, Gamefocus.co.kr, has reported that a remastered version of the 2010 game Red Dead Redemption is coming next year to Playstation 4, Xbox 1 and PC.

The game would be getting a full Korean localization this time, as the original game was released with english subtitles and a physical copy of the script translated to korean. While they mention that their source confirmed that the PS4 and PC version would be released in Korea, they weren't sure about the Xbox 1 version even though it exists.

The website also reports that the remaster will be announced this week, with September 7th (Playstation Meeting) being a likely date for the announcement.

Source: http://gamefocus.co.kr/detail.php?number=62952&thread=22r02

Call the Benz if not thread worthy or untrustworthy. If anyone from Korea can share a bit more of Gamefocus' track record, it would be appreciated.

Didn't a Korean rating board accidentally leak the existence of Gravity Rush Remastered and Siren HD (which we are yet to see)? Could this have come through the same place?

Red Dead showing up is the new "The Last Guardian is totally going to be at this show"

Still would be down for Red Dead Redemption Remastered

Wow, that is cheap as fuck. They didn't even put the subtitles in?

Neat, I never played it when it came out because I had heard that the PS3 version was garbage.

Same with Bayonetta.

Wasn't the codebase for the game supposed to be a nightmare? Seems like a waste of effort to go and try and work all that into a port for the current systems instead of making a new Red Dead.

So Sony is showcasing their powerhouse console with a Remaster of a 7th gen game?

I dont think so

This here is not the case, the website is claiming that the info is from its sources

And the Siren thing was rated there so the game could be released on PS Plus as it did in June

Just make a new one, pretty please!

Been loving playing through it again through BC on the XB1 but I have no interest in a souped up version of the same game.

Read Dead Returns, please!

Maybe remaster with added content (the new part in RDR map that had been "leaked").

I just don't care but I want a new spaghetti western game :)

oh and a new Bully too.... and a new Midnight Club too... yeah I'm starting my letter to Santa a little early :p

Ah, thank you for confirming. I'd been waiting for the remaster before playing it so maybe I'll just go through it after I beat Yakuza 4.

Also, I agree this will not be a showcase. It may however be an additional point after a new Red Dead...

I didn't actually like RDR when it came out. The narrative structure was boring as fuck. I'd give it another shot if the Remaster was good, though.

Is it? I bought a PS3 copy a while ago and played a little. I have a 360 now but I don't care about anything other than really significant performance issues. Unlike Bayonetta the type of game Red Dead is for me allows it much more leeway on performance issues.

Maybe it's a remake using the same engine as the inevitable sequel.

It's why I think they may have misunderstood their sources and it's a new Red Dead not a remaster?

In the PC thread gaffer SomTervo posted this though:
I know people who work at North and on Friday they told me they were working on something exciting that is a preexisting IP. They said to look out for news in the next two weeks.

I don't think RDRR is likely but fingers crossed. We'll be hearing from R* North soon either way.

Ocarina of Time was released like this in some European countries (copy in english and script book translated to your language), but I though these type of localization were buried in the past now.

They did that with one of the yakuza games in china, iirc, not even that long ago.

Easy to make the claim with no evidence to show than your own word.

No idea on the sites credibility. Could be as bad as kdramastars constant bullshit, or not. I would disregard unless others confirm with more clarity

Because it's a miracle it even works on consoles, it was slapped together and rushed around until things just made sense, unlike other Rockstar titles from that generation it uses a subset build of the engine, to clear it up, here's how RAGE is broken is broken down...

RAGE ERB1
- Rockstar Presents Table Tennis

RAGE ERB2
- Grand Theft Auto IV
- Midnight Club LA
- Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City

RAGE ERB3
- Max Payne 3
- Grand Theft Auto V/Online

RAGE is developed by Rockstar San Diego, the studio that handles the Midnight Club and Red Dead series, for Red Dead Redemption though it uses neither ERB2 or ERB3, it's like a highly customised split off version of ERB2 mixed with some RB3 features (think of it like a 2.5), The code for that was a complete mess and changes were made daily without being documented during development, and as such no PC version of the code was ever made as they strictly focused on getting the Xbox 360 (which was the main focus of RAGE during ERB1 and ERB2) and PlayStation 3 version of the game stable.

After Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar used the year in which L.A.Noire was being pushed (which doesn't use RAGE) to heavily rework RAGE for a new build which took advantage of both PC and PlayStation 3 features, as well as pushing the Xbox 360 to it's limits, this resulted in ERB3 which debuted with Max Payne 3, which of course had a brilliant PC version compared to the previous PC release which at the time was Grand Theft Auto IV/Episodes from Liberty City.

The ONLY way Rockstar could do a remaster of Red Dead Redemption is if they took the game itself and transfered it over to ERB3 and THEN ported it to PC (which in turn would allow PS4 and XBO versions too), but to salvage that mess of a code and actually put that amount of work into it would cost a lot of man hours.

It's not because "they just hate PC gamers", etc, or anything silly like that, it really is because the game itself is a coded mess and it's a surprise it got stable on 360/PS3, if you look at the assets yourself you can even see things like audio and textures thrown in last minute not packed in the archives properly, etc, as an example of how things were being thrown around right up til gold with the game.

Ash used to work at Rockstar

Doubt it's happening. And they just made it BC too, if a remaster was happening they would have held off on that.

Can we stop posting about a RDR remaster until there's confirmation we're actually getting one? It's getting ridiculous.

Yeah, I also think they might be refetring to "a new Red Dead Redemption HD game" and not necessarily a RDR remaster. It wouldn't make sense to show a remaster in a Neo presentation if it that announcement is not followed by "in addition to the remaster of the original game, we're also announcing that a sequel is in development".

I liked it on 360 but they'd have to put a good amount of effort into a PC release to make me want to buy and play it again. Like GTAV kind of improvements.

First of all, hasn't GTA5 remaster sold like a billion copies? Sales expectations for RDR mean a large investment in remastering is justified. Second, why do you think the remaster would be instead of a sequel?

Yeah exactly. This news does just makes me more excited for Wednesday though..lol

If these rumors about the code base being a total mess are true it probably isn't that easy money. I'm sure it would make R* money in any case though.

I refuse to believe that "messed up code" will stop Rockstar from releasing RDR on next gen consoles and PC. Even if they have to program the game from start in a new engine it still would be a more than worthwhile investment.
