Halo 5: Guardians |OT4| You picked a helluva week to join up

CEA makes it much better. It's kind of mind-boggling that in a game where they admitted getting confused which way to go on AOTCR was easy and added arrows to the floor and ceiling... they didn't in the Library.

I thought CEA ruined the atmosphere of the original Library (most of the game for that matter). It was bright, garish, and hand holding. I don't mean this arrogantly, but I never got lost. You just follow the blue humming light and run the hell away lol. There was a couple times where I got turned around in the frenzy, but that was part of the fun for me. I liked feeling dazed, confused, and overwhelmed. I'm obsessed with the original Doom games, so the Library kindles that in a modern and fresh way that most games don't.

Jem's comment on reducing the length rings true for me. That would have probably helped most people. I admit there are some tricks that the level pulls a bit too many times. The sections where you get locked into a smallish room with 2 large doors while waiting for Guilty Spark comes to mind.

That Blur pic does make H3A seem more feasible. If they do remake it, it’s just going to be the campaign. The multiplayer would be a map pack of sorts. Pretty much remake some or all the H3 maps for H5 and add in some weapons and maybe vehicles.

I still owe you guys a montage.

Had some personal stuff going on for a while, so couldn't really focus on it.

Do people still want another?

(I hate to break my promises)

I lurk on the forge thread and your maps look stellar bro. Hope they are getting some love and play time.

I made a re-imagining of Lockout's layout that worked really well with Halo 5's movement and sandbox, but I got depressed when I realized hardly anyone would play it. I spent probably 40+ hours on it.

How do you forgers cope with that? lol

I agree with this. Funknown and Jem seem to frequently poke their heads in there and defend it, but unfortunately they often get attacked/trolled for their opinions. I don't always agree with them, but they have good heads on their shoulders.

I'm also sick of people saying the flood and 343 Guilty Spark + The Library + Two Betrayals suck. lol ;)

From that list, Only the library sucks. It was really bad. I think you have Stockholm syndrome regarding that level.

The library was purely a flawed and clearly hastily designed test of endurance. the environment was interesting on the first floor... But quickly got old.

I'd be down, but it seems like you might need to start over, there's a lot more content at least on my end...

Easiest way to fix Antifreeze: nuke Antifreeze

How about actually letting us play Slayer in BTB, can't believe a BTB Slayer gametype is fucking rare in its own playlist!

Bungie was smart to separate Objective and Slayer gametypes even if it did clutter the playlist. At least I can play a game of BTB Slayer when I want to in Reach instead of slogging through 8 games of various Strongholds and CTF games to get 1 match of Slayer.

There's something to be said for the original's tomblike, oppressive atmosphere, but there are plenty of spots where unless you're very familiar with the level you can get turned around (spots where you have to go into the tunnels, for instance.) The difficulty has never been the sticking point for me (pistol + shotgun + backpack reload makes it pretty simple as long as you don't try to rush too many encounters) but it's simply not that fun. There's no great variety in encounters and there's no real story reason to what you're doing. It's the clearest bit of level pad in the entire campaign and it shows.

Man, it's just weird cuz I see it in another light. I see it like this:
When you escape from the flood with Guilty Spark you feel some relief. Suddenly you are thrusted into this dark oppressive and spooky alien tomb. Knowing it was deep beneath the ring felt really cool. Going through the rhythm of trying to maintain shotgun shells, focus on the various flood forms attacking you from all sides, taking out the carrier forms and using them to blow up crowds, feeling isolated and unsure of Guilty Spark, using your radar to time grenade throws into the pipes from the ceiling, taking shortcuts on the map... it felt like an alien underground tunnel catacomb system used to maintain the ring world from above.

The feeling of confusion and being overwhelmed (on Legendary anyways), combined with the escalating difficulty made it feel like a really high stakes survival situation that completely contrasted with the game you were previously playing. Then you reclaim the index and get "betrayed." I loved it and still love it to this day. It just feels so good to play.

The only thing that doesn't make sense to me lore-wise, is the teleportation used by Guilty Spark. Why doesn't he just teleport you down to the index to reclaim it? However, that's not the only level that doesn't explain that. Cortana can do it as well. *shrug*

I probably could have left with those same sentiments- if I wasn't playing through the exact same encounters over and over. It quickly went from spooky and exciting, to tedious and repetitive...

It's not the difficulty that bothered me. It was the utter lack of variety.

I can see that and I understand why a lot of people don't like it. It does have some pacing issues. Just cutting out one of the 3 (I think?) floors you have to traverse would have made the level significantly more enjoyable for people I think. Could rip out one of the floors and instead replace an intense Halo 2 kind of descending elevator sequence where you are fighting hordes of flood coming at you from all sides. I guess I just love the gameplay loop enough where it never bothered me. I'm one of those weirdos that loves playing games that make me feel exhausted and beaten down, as long as the game itself is fun to play.

Because level pad :) Cortana is only able to teleport you by tapping into your suit's power reserves, and specifically mentions that they should only try it once. To her credit she teleports you 10 meters away from your target, which is nicer than Guilty Spark :)

EDIT: D'oh.

Now this would be an idea I could get behind. Like how ODST did it. Though they would have to mess with maps a little for sprinting and the other Spartan abilities. But if it's anything else getting interested in it would be hard. Cause would much rather have a bunch of content added to halo 5 than just halo 3 remastered.

I forgot you never experienced halo 2 online. I feel bad now for dragging you into Lockout and Midship free for alls lol <3

You getting Modern Warfare on Xbox or PS4 (if at all)?
lol it hurt good babe

Never owned a CoD game but the remaster seems like a good place to jump in. Used to play it at my buddies house all the time. Will probably pick up Titanfall 2 as well.

We're gonna be right on the edge of another H5 OT anyhow, doesn't particularly make much sense to split them up into two, does it? We've got the Forge topic as well.

It doesn't, but I saw someone in the gaming side saying they will be creating one.
Is that a way to know that? I can add the W10 stuff

I'm excited for the stream today. I can't believe I get to play Haven again. I hope they discuss the content browser thing as well.

I figured I would update the Forge OT tonight after the live stream gets put on YouTube.

How do you forgers cope with that? lol
It kinda sucks, but after making stuff since Halo 3, you realize that you have to put effort into marketing your map. It's the one aspect of making a map that I don't like. I always feel like I'm just spamming my own content everywhere instead of contributing to conversation. (I'll point out here that I could use Forge Hub, but I'm not a big fan of their community) Hopefully the custom game browser in our future will mean that marketing is less important.

Definitely worth creating a new OT, the number of potential new players this release has. Plus most of the forgers will start using this version to create maps, at least I'd imagine so. So it makes sense for a new thread to be the new Forge home.

nah b your cool forge map is way better than a montage anyway

I find the process of creating something quite relaxing. Don't care too much if people play it a lot or not. (But seeing Forge Labs feature both of my latest works was nice!)

I don't think anyone could handle all the G0SU clips.

G0SUtage is go.

I'd be down, but it seems like you might need to start over, there's a lot more content at least on my end...

I would approach it from scratch, if people want one.

Halo 3's MP is the worst in the series for me.

If we got a H3A I wonder what 4v4 maps they would do, the Pit, High Ground and Narrows seem likely. Then there's a few trash tier maps (Construct, Snowbound, Isolation, Orbital and vanilla Foundry). Guardian is a poor man's Lockout, but it'll probably be there. Heretic is just a Midship remake in an inferior sandbox. Citadel is pretty good, but I don't think it's very popular. Assembly is okay, I don't see that happening. You got stuck on everything in Ghost Town (343i?).

BTB is pretty obvious with Avalanche. It's the best map in Halo 3, plus we didn't get a Sidewinder remake in H: CEA.

Maps we would probably get:

Guardian
High Ground
Last Resort
The Pit
Snowbound (even though it's poop, it would probably be there.)
Narrows
Rat's Nest
Citadel
Avalanche

Valhalla, Standtrap, and Standoff (These already all have pretty decent forge remakes, so I don't think they would bother.)

I want a Last Resort remix for Halo 5 honestly. I think it would work pretty good.

A remix map pack containing Halo 3 maps would be cool, too. Pit as a forunner map, Guardian as a covenant map, etc.

Fallen Xbot (cannot continue gaining levels in this class)
finally got into a match on white cell. not bad. certainly will take more than a single match to get good thoughts on it but i like that there are instances of both good verticality and some good sight lines. i also like the simple aesthetic.

Never played it, but I prefer to play Team Arena, even if alone.
They could have add it to team arena. They are previewing new maps/gametypes, it would be only one more

August season I got to Plat 3 with 1.039 KD and 56% Wins.

Fall season I have got to Gold 3 and an at 0.708 KD and 36% Wins.

Wtf is happening

I really really really don't like what they've done with the sandbox.

Theirs weapons better than your starting weapons spawning every 20 seconds all across the map, you can say this death of the utility weapon is good, but getting boned off your spawn repeatedly because the guy has a non power weapon, weapon that's better than yours is insanely frustrating. Literally feels like im playing a RPG off spawn trying to grab a weapon to replace my AR/Pistol.

These maps are designed 100% to use all the new movement mechanics, which on paper doesn't sound so bad, but in reality is awful. They overdid it. Halo used to be about power weapon control and positioning, now positioning is out the window with sprinting thrusting hovering to all kinds of places. With maps making brain-dead automatic fights a common occurrence.

Radar shows your EXACTLY where the other person is at all times when hes around you, do I need to even explain why this is dumb?

There's so much magnetism its insane, I've seen so many more ridiculous clips in this game than any other. I cant watch h5 montages, 1/3 of the clips the guy misses shots and it connects. I would gladly take a 50% magnetism reduction for like a 30% auto aim increase. How the hell does this ever hit me?? and it wasnt lag, its the game. xboxdvr.com/gamer/aZeezbruh/video/21313919

The reason people say "This isn't Halo" is because of all this. Halo 5 plays more like a Call of Duty with you spawning with a m16 with iron sights, and there's better AR's and SMG's laying around that you can pick up, than a Halo game. I'm alright with it but they need to tilt it more twords old Halo IMO. I guess we will find out what they do with Halo 6 soonish (17 months till beta?)

Also the fact that its a chore to enjoy H5, it feels hardcore and has a huge lack of social stuff. Don't forget lack of content at launch and other "Wat" decisions.

^^
7-8 months of playing this game daily, high onyx/champion level. Inb4 "git gud"

It's legit better than half of the developer maps, looks great aswell.
