Sony doesn't allow Fallout 4/Skyrim mods on PS4

And? I don't see why Bethesda is to blame like you say they are. They announced a feature they were hopeful to get happen, and had every reason to believe it could happen since MS allowed it. It's on Sony.

Bethesda announced mods supported not Sony, did they not? Not saying sony isn't at fault for not allowing it but Bethesda had to go in knowing full well that it was a possibility that it couldn't happen. Both parties are to blame.

I know mods were showcased on Bethesda's website a while back and then pulled. If I remember, it was causing hard crashes on the PS4. I'd look it up but I'm at work.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Bethesda seems equally at fault, so their shitty pr putting all the blame on Sony is another example of that company being bad times.

I suspect a lot of the issues are that the PS4 is Sony architecture and not just an obfuscated Windows box like the Xbox One is where everything is very similar to PC mods. Making mods that would work on a PC as well as a proprietary console always seemed like a total pipe-dream really.

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.
Sony was just pissed because Bethesda would disable trophies if they allowed use of the mods. Too many gamers would be upset. Sony couldn't allow that. It was a decision that benefitted the gamers.

Afterall, if you played the game and the trophy never popped, did you really play it?

As this thread continues, can someone actually explain how this is solely Sony's fault? Bethesda announced a feature when they didn't know they'd actually be able to do it or not. They continued to publicly work on that feature while they had months of discussions, knowing there was a possibility they would not be able to release it. It's definitely partially on Sony for not allowing it (for whichever potentially good or potentially questionable reasons they ended up with), but considering Bethesda promised something while privately knowing there was a chance it wasn't going to happen, I'd be pretty annoyed with them if I bought the game thinking that mods would happen, not Sony.

This, they promise thing without know if this is possible to accomplish them. This is not only Sony fault...

Just out of curiosity how many mods are on Xbox One and how widely spread they are?

Sony privacy calculated it's not worth the risk seeing how Bethesda isn't exactly known for its technical prowess.

3598 spread over 49 categories.

But they allow performance fixes patches and Bethesda doesn't care.

Should have been the first post.

While I want the details on this and think it's a dumb move. GAF needs to get out of its bubble.

Anyone who truly cares about mods has these games on PC. Mods for F4 were a timed exclusive for XB1 and F4 sold more on PS4.

A lot of the things GAF seems as big controversies the general public doesn't even know or give a shit about.

People still see the ps4 as a great value and way to play amazing games. Same as XB1

This is a website to talk about video games.

Sony fanboy for life, but they are starting to alienate even me. No 4K blu ray on pro, not even an effort towards backwards compatibility (I know you can't do PS3, but just to try and combat microsoft you could do PS1/PS2)

Also seem to be hampering console cross play.

Now they have outright denied console mods. This isn't just for fallout but for all games that may wanna try it.

Getting cocky it seems.

I motion that we gather GAFers, FAQers, REDDITers, and any other hardcore gaming community to start a campaign. We start with mods. #MODS4PLAYSTATION

Lame. So glad this iterative console nonsense finally me made go with PC as my main and PS4 as a guess I'll keep it around for exclusive since I already have it machine.

Man you are a true champion of Sony

No I'm not. It sucks this isn't happening but some posters need to step out of their emotional and opinionated bubble with no basis.

It's the same when people shit on MS and their policy regarding FF14. It sucks but outside of GAF or forum chatter no one truly cares.

Lol at people are saying "Security reasons" when the mods on XB1 have to go through a filter and approved to be put up.
yes

because for years people spoke out against mods saying they were overrated and wanted to play the game the way developers intended it.

Oh okay I see what you mean then. I don't know I was never against the idea but, I know exactly what you are a talking about.

I'm seriously pissed here. I've never ever said it, but this is some of that bullshit mentality coming back. I hate the stupid arrogant Sony comments, but fuck if they haven't been making some stupid ass decisions lately. This is a crock of shit. Yes, I can play on my gaming rig, but I shouldn't have to when the Xbox has had this shit for months. I'd rather use my PS4!!! Sony just made me question if I want to continue to support them for the first time ever.

There is no defending this.

Buying an entry level gaming laptop, that's quite the workaround.

Well, odds are a lot of poeple on gaff already have desktop PC's or laptops capable of runing the game (or desktops just one $150 GPU away from running the game with all the bells and whistles).

And this way you get mods for most of your games too!

I can't help but feel like Bethesda has some blame in all of this too. It'll be interesting to find out the details on Sony's end.

FYI, these were the reasons brought up a few months ago when they said mods would be delayed:

https://bethesda.net/#en/devnotes/cr...-for-uploading

"KNOWN ISSUES WITH PS4 MODS

PC textures are used. Memory and performance issues may occur. We are working with Sony on optimal texture exporting support in a future update.
Sound files are currently not supported. PS4 sound format is a proprietary format. We are working with Sony on sound file processing support in a future update.
PS4 Mod Storage limit is approximately 900 MB at present. Please do not upload mods larger than 900 MB. We are working with Sony to increase this limit."

Reposting for those that might be curious as to why.
Sound like it had alot of issues on the PS4.

Arrogant Sony slowly returning.

I dunno, it just seems they've lost a lot of what made them quite likeable in 2013/14 and MS has been forced to take that place.

Yeah the reactions in here are pretty hyperbolic without knowing any of the specifics on how this feature came to not occur. I could see if you bought fallout 4 / pre-ordered skyrim for this explicit feature that you'd be reasonably pissed however.

All in all the feature always seemed like it was in the best interest solely for Bethesda. Microsoft followed along with it to add another differentiator for xbox. It always seemed like a huge undertaking for the platform holder to support it for 2 whole games, that's my guess for why Sony didn't follow suit.

Dev shaming? Bethesda is able to do mods, they're doing it on the other platforms without issue. This is on Sony.

No where in that post does it indicate that Bethesda is incapable of doing mods, just that they announced it before it was finalized.

Also lol @ "dev shaming"

They're not able to do mods. An important part of being able to mods is Sony saying yes.

It'd be one thing if this was "We wanted to do mods on PS4 too, but Sony said no." This is announcing mods for both platforms without confirmation that it was actually going to be allowed.

(what the fuck does "dev shaming" mean)

Maybe Sony's OS security isn't strong enough to prevent agains the risk that someone could sneak malicious code into a mod or something.

Doesn't matter if they know or give a shit about it. Bad buzz and word of mouth can hurt a company.

Now I want to see how will Sony explain this.

Will they even acknowledge it?

Wow, very disappointing

I hoped the effort Bethesda put into the mod support will spur other companies to offer similar support in other console games but I'm not sure you can now call it a success

I'm not interested in Skyrim/Fallout let alone any mods so this doesn't affect me either way. However this seems like a stupid decision on Sony's part. Bethesda wouldn't have came and outright blamed Sony for it unless it was after months of negotiations and wrangling. That statement almost reads like a PR version of a rant at Sony who they're fed up with.

Sony should have done what they can to make this possible. Forget already released Fallout and soon Remaster. Elder Scrolls VI will be huge and they're just gutting the version on their platform

Stop it, you are not allowed to talk in rational tones here.

So much Courage this week.

Heh, "Courage" is certainly going to apply to a lot of things going forward at this rate.

The only plus side to this situation is not seeing the same theft / plagarism of modders work all over again by some users who couldn't get over an authors wishes or lack of interest for Bethesda.net
