Metroid Prime: Federation Force |OT| Four Mech Adventures

M05 has pushed me to use Lone Wolf. I'm weak : /

It's really no surprise that the game is doing poorly everywhere with all the toxic waste people dumped on it since its reveal.

That's insulting to everyone. It's a game made for an audience that doesn't exist. The game tanking is Nintendos fault and not the people who voiced that the entire thing was poor from start to finish.

I'd like to like Nintendos output, but doing so unconditionally benefits nobody.

And I just realized that the OT for the unofficial fan remake of Metroid 2 has 38 pages here on GAF while the OT for the official "Metroid" game (this one) is barely at 10.

That says a lot.

Some of us are enjoying the game at this very moment. Take your silly remarks out of the OT, will ya?

I'm not really annoyed by the suggestion "no one wanted this game" or whatnot, since it's evidently not popular enough to create any buzz. This happens a lot actually, for a lot of games, especially as markets change. However, I don't understand why that matters though, at least to gaming enthusiasts. There are games I would come to like or even love that I didn't want (or rather, know I wanted). Nevermind getting into the whole notion that there are some good games out there that that may as well have never existed for 95% of NeoGAF, let alone the general gaming public. I guess I'm ignoring the whole grudge and resentment and sense of ownership over the brand mess though. There are games that never get talked about, because they are too unheard of, and there are games that can't be talked about, because they are hated by a large enough number. Federation Force finds itself with the worst of both worlds. It's ultimately a decent game with a number of neat ideas doing its own thing that is hardly worth the agonizing over, really just a sign with the larger problem with fandoms in general.

Any ideas for not-so-obvious breakables on m05 are welcome : /

Did you get the columns with the first cannon, and the insignia above the door with the last cannon?

You should be 44 when you finish the first big room, 51 once you finish the room with the Griptoraxes.

So I finish a H17 run with another person. We went through it quickly (we were under the target time by well over 2 minutes), but we only barely got the 3 medals (had we been off by a pulverize, we would have been stuck with 2 medals). So I'm thinking to myself that we probably would have been better off staying for a bit longer to flesh out the points because that was too close for comfort. About 30 seconds after entering the lobby, the server goes under maintenance...

EDIT: Someone ripped the soundtrack to youtube. I'm having a fun game trying to see how much I can identify, because there are no names in any of them.

Is there a complete list of the skins both for the campaign and Blastball?

The skins for the campaign are unlocked in random order as you get medals, save for one which is unlocked on beating the game. Gold medals from normal mode unlock skins from one set, while platinum medals from hard mode unlock skins from another.

For blast ball, you get skins via achievements but the relationships are different for each player. If there's a skin your after, the only way to guarantee it is to get every achievement. The list is on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Metroid/comments/4u3ymp/what_paint_job_unlock_conditions_do_we_know_of_in/

No need for the quotation marks, amigo; it is a Metroid game; whether you like it or not.

Got the insignia but columns are news to me. Thanks.

ed: 46pts short of gold on m01. That's a couple of shriekbats (which, yes, I missed).

@ElectricBlanketFire: why are you in this thread? Can't you take that trash to the bazillion threads where people bash the game without playing it, like you do?

So you're saying that about a week or so after Splatoon came out and they revealed this game at E3 they quickly threw together a co-op game because Splatoon seemed to have caught on? :)
I'm saying your "They crafted it during DSi period" is a fanboy fairy tale. The only Tanabe's thought relative to this game ten years ago was the idea of a spin-off title about Federation soldiers, certainly not a co-op gameplay. I still think Next Level guys did a solid work on the game, but they were pulled down by the idiotic Tanabe/Nintendo's concept.

Can't have people enjoy something, when you're on a righteous crusade to prove people you were right all along.

It's the OT for a game in a series that I love. I'm not shitposting. If you read my post, you'll see that I have played the game. No other OT doesn't allow different opinions and this one should be no different. I don't think the game is awful, but I do think the reasoning behind it is.

I was responding to an erroneous post by the OP that the reason this game bombed was due to the "toxic waste dumped on it by fans" which clearly isn't true.

This game has online play right? I've ordered it but I didn't think to look.

Yes.

EDIT: People need to lay off on targeting, completely. This is starting to get really unacceptable.

Yes, I think some users are a little out of bounds with their comments. However most who are in this thread have tried the game or at least have an interest in trying it, so for that I solute them.

Fuck this game. Just deleted it. Missions range from ok at best to fucking terrible and I've got too many good games in the backlog to waste time on games I'm not loving.

Glad some of you are enjoying it. I need to delete my credit card from my consoles do I stop drunk impulse buying games I don't really want.

Haha. This is why I am the proud owner of the Deluxe version of Umbrella Chronicles. My CC and Paypal info was deleted the next day.

This OT obviously allows different opinions, several people in this thread have played the game, didn't like it, and shared their experience explaining why they didn't like it, and none of them got any negative remark. You, on the other hand, made absolutely no comment on the game itself whatsoever.

There are currently two threads celebrating on this game bombing, you could have commented there and leave the one and only thread discussing the game itself alone.

Anyway, thread removed from my subscriptions. Not worth it.

Ah yes, "fanboy fairy tale" is surely gonna make me take you more seriously now. :)

Let's not act like that is a fact lol.

What's you guys' favorite mission?

Mine's Mission 17 "Infestation".
Really cool way of including Metroids, and having them be immune to weapons fire when not frozen is a nice step up from how weak they are in Prime. I enjoy how you first start seeing Metroids frozen in tubes before you see them unfrozen; it's a way of teaching the player through environmental elements.

Probably Infestation as well for me.

Putting aside some boss fights, I'd say that's easily the best mission in the game.

You can't think of any other reasons why the game sold historically poorly?

I think you're making the crucial mistake and assume that I'm saying the game would've sold gangbusters had it not been for a few gaf threads and yt downvotes.

I'm saying the toxically hyperbolic negativity that spread like a wildfire and instantly branded the game as "complete shit" is what irredeemably doomed it. The usual lack of marketing efforts, limited appeal of this type of game in general on the platform (regardless of attached IP), and "just okay/good" critical reception would've produced the normal underwhelming reception.

Can we now go back to talking about the game? :)

I just finished the first stage, and every mission has been a delight, perfectly worthy of the Prime moniker. The only mission that I was indifferent about was the Infiltration one - stealth 'zero-suit' is just not my thing, never was, even in Zero Mission.

17 is decent, and definitely the most "metroidy" level in the entire game by a very large margin in terms of both atmosphere and design.
I do find it amusing the game performed the technical equivalent of "I'm not left handed" and displayed that the doors often aren't used for performance like they were in the mainline games by just leaving them open.
It wouldn't surprise me if the level was made later in development in response to criticism.
My favorites are probably M8 Blender for being so open ended on how you can go about it, and M16 Slipstream for its sound design and music.

M6 is pretty good, especially for its intro in the rain, but that one instant death section is kinda BS.

The final 3 minutes of the mission are the best part about it, with the intense melee. Apropos, how does one get the first mod, right by the drop zone?

Jump up from the little ledge.
Oh come on! /feels stupid

update: FF started up at #19 and is currently at #12 in the PL 3ds recent bestsellers eShop charts, right after Shovel Knight.

update2: it's at #11 now. It seems some people even bought it to down-vote it - a single 1-star rating sits there lonely ; )

I don't know why you're so personally offended by this. You brought up the toxic fans in response to sales figures, so I responded.

So either YOU stick to talking about the gameplay, or let us have a conversation about the game in general like in every other OT.

Man, replaying M04: Containment alone and getting the triple medal has been intense but pretty rewarding. I'd have sworn this level played solo would be a pain in the ass, but with the lone wolf mod it was perfectly balanced. Indeed, I'm at M10 and I'd say all the missions so far up to this point are perfectly affordable playing alone.

Holy cow, M09 Blender has truly been a masterpiece in terms of level design and brilliance.

There are so many details and so many elements to take care of! The alternate minecart tracks that allow you to avoid the debris, the ability of the pirates to broke the doors of the shelters, the opportunity to make the minecart going faster if there are more people pushing it, the strategy of using a force shield to prevent accidents, the hidden zip line conecting the start and the ending of the canyon to save time...

And due to its nature it surely is an inmersive mission, with plenty of memorable moments.

So I just discovered I did not actually need the time bonus for gold on a few of my early problematic missions. Yay.

Just wanted to say that this weekend I finally had time for some multi, and the game absolutely shines when a team of experienced players is formed. Until now I used to look at the game as a very atmospheric single-player, but clearly FF is a very cooperative game, even more so than TFH, since most of the optimal solutions are not so obvious as in TFH. So much thought went into this, kudos to Next Level!

Sadly I don't have much time to play but I'm really looking forward to see some of that myself.

I've just finished this and the last few missions clinched it for me: I think this is my game of the year so far.

Other than one dodgy and frustrating mission in the middle, I don't really have any negative points about the game. The gameplay was varied and fresh, the online works well and was very stable throughout, the story was decent and felt epic by the end, the bosses were great and it definitely didn't outstay it's welcome.

It's sad that people are willing to miss out on this just because it wasn't what they wanted from the series. I for one enjoyed seeing a diferent aspect of the universe.

Anyone got any tips on how to do M04: Containment solo without Lone Wolf? I've tried it quite a few times and broke all my favorite mods. :(

I don't think that is actually possible, Lone Wolf is pretty much indispensable. Not only because you need to survive the capture of two titans on the same cage, but also because in addition you'll have to get several points fighting the pirates and ice hoppers (they reappear indefinitely, so you'll have to revisit the zones they frequent in order to achieve the amount of points required)... in less than 9 minutes.

All the advice I can give you is to use the decoy when you try to capture the two ice titans simultaneously.
