Update: In an unbelievable move, their corrected PR was wrong. It's PS4-only again:

Editor’s Note #2: Bandai Namco sent Gematsu an “updated correction”—a correction of its previous correction—at 9:52 p.m. backpedaling its PS Vita announcement. According to the new press release, the game will be available “exclusively for the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system in both digital and boxed-retail versions."

Digital-only, but Bandai Namco Asia is based so they'll probably do a physical print.

PS4 version is confirmed for retail in NA.

I have no idea how their PR people could screw up this badly.

I really hope Gematsu isn't messing up here again haha

I can't take it

Nah. After nagging their PR folks a bunch, they sent me an updated press release they were working on. Here's the first paragraph:

Bandai Namco said:
BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America Inc. the premier publisher of anime videogames today announces Digimon World: Next Order is coming to the Americas for the PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®Vita computer entertainment systems. Digimon World: Next Order for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita is scheduled to launch in the Americas in early 2017 through the digital PlayStation Stores, and the PlayStation 4 version of the game will also be available at retail stores on the same day.

Either they severely underestimated the hate they'd get and course corrected in record time, or Bandai Namco's public relations people are horrible at their jobs. I don't understand how you could have such a huge communications failure that affects press releases, social media posts and trailers for North America, Europe and SEA. I can understand accidentally the whole thing in a PR and no one proof reading, but all of that? For three different markets?

Yeah, it baffles me as well.

You even have sites explaining why it's only getting a PS4 release

According to Meristation (on of the oldest videogame outlets in spanish) the game is only seeing a PS4 port due all the improvements done using the PS4 power. A massive graphic overhaul being the biggest change. Meristation says that where it was just sky in the background for the vita version, on the PS4 version they added buildings and background elements to enrich thr scenery.

okay lol

Will the Vita version still be the original Japanese version in terms of contents? They supposedly added some extra quests and Digimon(?) and maybe something else to the PS4 release. I don't really care about the graphics but I wouldn't want to miss out on a ton of extras.

So I really, really want to know what happened here. Is it really a case of mis-communication across 3 whole regions, or did the complete backlash they got on social media really change their minds?

Either way, I'm thrilled. My Digimon Vita background won't be a single bubble for Cyber Sleuth and instead can be a folder with Next Order in:

Now to nag Bamco SEA for a physical version.

Yesssssssssssss! I was disappointed when I saw PS4 only but knowing it's going on to Vita now I'll be playing this wayyyyy more when it releases.

What a relief. Somehow I could never imagined that Bamco will drop Vita completely, even for Asia. Since this statement is from Bamco US, a retail for Europe or Asia is not off the table, right?

People said that? Lol

Wall of shame:

Hmm I guess the Vita version of Cyber Sleuth sold really badly in the West.

You could always remote play it to your pc or laptop or the lame Vita c:

Henkaku new mass piracy prevented this for Vita case closed. :p

No Vita version pretty much confirms Cyber Sleuth was a gigantic failure on it?

cant cancel that which was never announced for localization. again i'll bet that it didnt sell as well as the ps4 version and with vita being hacked open kinda made it an easy choice.

It also says there is multiple difficulty levels, 12 new digimon and more than 30 new quests

So we went from PS4 (digital) --> PS4 (physical/digital) --> PS4 (physical/digital) + Vita (digital) in one day?
Next step would be Vita physical

The vita being digital only sucks but at least it's coming so that's great, though Namco messed up with their PR.

Anyway I will probably import the Asia version as I am not buying digital again as I wasn't happy doing that with Cyber Sleuth.

The fact that they have yet to say something about it on their twitter still has me kinda worried because going by how they've handled this so far it wouldn't surprise me if they denied Vita again and said it was a mistake lmao.

But if true, THANK GOD. I don't even care if it doesn't get the updated content or dub or whatever, I'm just extremely happy that I'll be playing this on a handheld. A physical version would have been appreciated but I'm not complaining. Thanks NB, I'll be there day 1 once again.

But the real question is...

Is this one as good as Cyber Sleuth?

I really enjoyed CS.

Completely different game in a completely different series.

Don't go into this expecting Cyber Sleuth, because it's really a whole different type of thing. This is a pure monster raising game, not a traditional RPG.

Not even in the same ballpark.

I'm worried about Digimon's localized future if Next Order doesn't do as well as Cyber Sleuth. CS had amazing word of mouth that made it successful and Next Order is just so meh.

It should get everything, the base game isn't exactly stretching Vita file limits. Only 1561MB. At worst, the new content + dub should only take up another 500MB-700MB.

So, it's going to be hard and full of dead Digimon? :p

Actually no, the series isnt as hard at the original due to A) They tell you what the fuck to do this time. And they make training alot easier, the psp/3ds digimon world Re:digitize made training so easy that if you get a numemon/sukemon that you worked to get it. Plus they never made anything as bad as Greymon attacking you which possibly caused many of you to make a new file.
This game gives you two digimon ... so yeah lots more dead digimon due to having 2 partners this time, DNA Digivolutions are a battle mechanic now i believe for this game.

Also you do not need to play the original or the psp/3ds reboot to understand the story of this direct sequel to the original psx game.
I stress that this be put in whomever makes the OT... Which shall be named Digimon World: Next Order |OT| Make File City great again
