While I believe it's a slip up, and even if it comes from the official websites, we all should've learned today that companies themselves can royally fuck up these kind of details (thanks Namco)...yes, a Saturday release would be highly unusual, especially now that Nintendo releases are on Fridays (hardware, software, amiibos). However, if we suppose March 4th, 2017 is also the NX's release date, there would be a sort-of-fascinating possible scenario: Nintendo has said the platform will be released worldwide in March. Now, what if that launch is simultaneous across all major regions? In that case, a Saturday release would make sense, since that's the day when major software releases and new consoles as a whole are released in Japan.

Plus is the best compromise between Sunday for NoA, Friday for NoE and Saturday for Japan.

Nintendo sold n64 and Wii controllers weeks before the actual systems themselves came out.

Yeah the third party lineup was surprisingly decent, but it definitely didn't have that AAA title that Nintendo needs to move hardware out the gate. As bad as the DS launch was, at least it had SM64S. All the 3DS had from the first party side was Pilotwings, Steel Diver, and the Nintendogs sequel. That won't move many units out the gate.

I thought a bit about it, and while I still think it's most likely some sort of error (would love to be wrong!), a Saturday release is not unheard of.

The Nintendo 3DS XL was also released on Saturday (even though Amazon.fr officially pushed forward the release date by one day), and that's because it was a simultaneous launch with Japan.
