Retailers are heading to Nintendo Europe in Germany for undisclosed reason.

But why retailers and not journalists? That's what I don't understand. If they need to get the word out they probably need both no?

It stands a chance that preorders probably starting soonish after the reveal means they need to start prepping for it with retailers.

What if the Nintendo New Galaxy Style New Nintendo 3DS XL was all a front and retailers werected in fact getting their stocks of NXs?
People are hoping:
A - Stuff leaks, because it's more likely to happen now
B - An announcement of some kind regarding NX is coming really soon
I don't know if NX was shown off last week at the Gamestop Manager's thing or not.
I assume they don't invite to NoE some random store employees, so the chances of people going to that meeting being people who would say something are very slim.
I've worked with NoE in the past and actually asked the Chef of PR about this very subject. (Not this current thing, mind you. Just in general.) Why does NoE invite others to Frankfurt instead of holding events elsewhere?
All this means is that whatever Nintendo is showing is not allowed to leave NoE under any circumstances. Sometimes this happens with games. Breath of the Wild for instance was Frankfurt only while Splatoon got its own event in Hamburg. In general, the more important something is the more likely it will be locked in NoE HQ.
I had to sign an NDA for Splatoon despite me already having signed another NDA for the review copy. Nintendo issues NDAs for EVERYTHING.

People keep saying this, but I don't think it's true. What prep do retailers need in order to begin pre-orders that they don't already have? Retailers currently take pre-orders for products they have no real information on. It's not like a meeting like this would reveal expected inventory levels or anything like that.
I mean, I'd love for this to be NX-related. I just live my life constantly prepared to be kicked in the dick.

They are probably returning their Wiius.
When trading is about to happen You need people with enough knowledge of the product.
Maybe is a educative meeting, about merchandising, layouts, advertising.
Not only for nx but for all nintendo products.
Now, i believe that they can give some little insight of nx, like dimensions And number of launch titles so the y can make some Room at the stores.

I think I remember reading something about a Splatoon showoff before something official was out. So either this really is about a game, or games, or rather something bigger. Actually I dont think Nintendo would pay for travel if it was Pokémon...but thats just my two cents

They showed quite a lot from Pokemon S&M, there nothing to warrant a trip at the NoE HQ for that when it can be handled locally in each country.
So it must be bigger than that.
Still doesn't mean anything for the general public.

You're errousnely thinking this is supposed to "get the word out". It isnt. If its NX related: after the failure of the Wii U, they habe to convince retailers that it will be worth it to stock their next console.
