I'm fine with consoles, so long as they mind their own business. I just don't want to see my daughter marrying one.

Good one :D

I agree with the use of the word "snob" instead, that's a lot more fair to everybody.

This stupid comparison gave me a few chuckles this morning (As a black man...), so I can't be mad at the guy for talking dumb. Kinda relevant in our social climate these days: People saying dumb things, and there being actual racist/prejudiced tendencies that we should identify and eliminate.

I fucking hate the le epic xD PC MASTERRACE meme fuckery that has been popularized by that stupid subreddit. Just play and enjoy the platform you peform, jerking yourself off over how superior the PC is to consoles isn't go to make the cute girl you fantasize about 24/7 suddenly start liking your self-loathing, pimply and overweight ass.(Sorry, this simply how imagine the PCMR diehards).

Me and a few friends still through around the PC master race term when talking about platforms and such. We all also own consoles too, the term is a joke just like when Yahtzee coined it in his Witcher review. Not everyone thinks it's funny, but I still do.
Comparing PC gamers to racists is a tad naive but hey it's Pachter lol.

He's kind of right. Pc gamers being offended by this are hilarious... if -anything- this statement could be offensive towards minorities by comparing the mostly harmless idiotic attitude of some pc gamers with the very real, widespread and dangerous issue of racism.

But he's comparing it to all PC gamers.

Those PCMR guys sure are dangerous...

I'm not hating. I just think it's a weird thing to do. It's like saying "I love food", but you only eat say, Mexican food, and totally ignore the merits of every Asian cuisine.

Well, if I decide to eat Asian food tomorrow, I only have to pay for the food, while not paying for Mexican food, and then eat. Its gaming equivalent would be if we refused to play games from certain regions, not exclusives of different consoles.

I don't ignore the merits of Microsoft/Nintendo games, it's just that they can't be just as good as a PS4 game, they have to be good enough to make me want to buy the system along with the game. I don't even have enough space to put another console, so even having to constantly swap them is something to consider for me when it comes to getting a new system. I'm much more likely to upgrade my PC or get a PS4 Pro (and right now I have 0 interest in the PS4 Pro) than getting a new console.

Pachter is certainly speaking from market experience and he may be talking about a real market reality, but the analogy is insane.

He could make the same point in a much less ridiculous way by saying something like, "PC gamers are more like Starbucks customers, while console players are more like Dunkin Donuts customers. Starbucks customers are less likely to try other chain coffee brands than Dunkin Donuts drinkers, who may be more willing to try McDonalds or Tim Horton's."

Instead he likened videogame preference to racism, which is an actual problem.

(Edit: I'm not saying my Starbucks/Dunks analogy is a perfect analogy or anything, but just that there are ways to make the same point without saying something ridiculously stupid and offensive)

Bringing racism to a video game system war is beyond stupid.
People are just fucking around with a meme, not organizing a new apartheid.

Monetary concerns aside, I feel like anyone who claims to love games, but sticks to a single system (be it PC, handheld, console, or mobile) is being a fool.

Because everyone who sticks with one clearly does it because of fanboyism, not because he finds a system more convenient or has all the games he likes or can't afford more than one system.

There's definitely an arrogance about some PC gamers here and elsewhere but the racist comparison is just ridiculous

That escalated quickly?

I honestly don't think his arguments are really that good on a personal level. I feel what he's expressing is less a PC Gamer thing and more any gaming platform fanboy thing, and even at that level it doesn't really come close to fitting in the 'racist' analogy.

There are issues to be tackled about gaming communities, but I think those who point to other platforms and say, "they're the problem!," should really step back and think about the why? And the hypocrisy of it all.

I play on PC because I like the mouse and keyboard, and because I like to watch movies/shows on my TV while playing games

"PC gamers are arrogant twits who are convinced what they do is better than what anybody else can possibly do," continued Pachter with his explanation of why PC gamers wouldn't be tempted by Sony's new PS4 Pro.
I mean...I'm confused. Either the same games would run better on the PS4 Pro compared to someone's PC or it wouldn't. I'm sure people with good PCs would be interested if it could get them an experience they couldn't get on their already existing machine.

Yes because being a console gamer is such a rough life, made worse by PC gamers supporting the oppression and mistreatment of console gamers.

Also for someone who has no interest in venturing out, I'm confused as to how an Xbox One and PS4 ended up on my shelf..

As terrible as I think the PC gamer community is, I think this is hyperbolic bullshit, and using words like racist actually is a spit in the face of those who deal with it.

Yes. It's an exageration. This is not a big deal. Lets not go al #notAllPCgamers on this, please.

An exageration? Even directly comparing the community in the PC master race reddit to racists is STUPID.

It's something I'd expect a petulant child to say to his friends in the schoolyard. Not what I'd expect a grown ass man to say to an interviewer from a newspaper.

This is Trump levels of idiotic.

The anger directed at PC gamers by this imbecile, and people here on this thread speaks volumes about some serious issues some people appear to have. We're tlaking about video games here people. If this gets you so mad, man you have to re-evaluate your life.

Except even then he'd have to provide proof or he'd be talking out of his ass.

Pachter is a paradigm of success spawned from loudmouthed fortune telling matched with bootstrap persistence, even when the output is the equivalent of verbal diarrhea. You can almost admire it.

Michael Pachter from Wedbush Securities came out with some interesting views on people who play games on PC, comparing them to racists.

I'm going to leave most of the discussion to the topic, but I think this is a case of taking a loud minority too seriously. I primarily for maybe 90% of my gaming these days play on PC, but I do own a PS4, Xbox One, and WiiU, and I do buy and play these consoles and am interested in the PS4 Pro and think the pricepoint is good for the exclusives. This is just me as a horror enthusiast talking, but I simply go where the horror games are, which in this day and age, is primarily PC. There's some more personal thoughts I have on the state of PC vs Console gaming, but in the end I think the end result everyone wants is simply good games that are convenient and enjoyable.

But let's hear what GAF thinks.

All credit to posting this from the best source of gaming news, lashman

Well after all these 'Master Race' comments everywhere and their behaviour on social media....for years..... welp, I agree here. I game on PC, too. Mostly on console. But damn man, shit is toxic.

Crazy, I agree with Pachter for once :O
