NX officially has the least time between reveal and release of any Nintendo platform

Reggie is going to appear in a Direct and say, "You've had the NX all along. The NX is in your hearts."

And we'll all roll our eyes at the cheese... before clutching our chests in pain.

"Reggie... What did you do??"

"I told you: It's in your heart."

Perhaps the true NX are the friends we made along the way.

Does it really need that much time? It'll get mostly ignored by mainstream consumers this holiday season anyway.

Throw out a superbowl ad in january, start tv commercials soon after. It'll be fine.

At this point even expecting it to launch in 2017 is pretty optimistic. I'd say either november 2017 or early 2018.

Until then, please enjoy more filler games from Nintendo. Do you have a favorite 3D franchise? Nintendo would be very happy to turn it into crappy 2D platform game for 3DS, bundled with amiibo. And more Mario Party.

And this is what scares me. They will delay this until 2017 holiday and Breath of The Wild right along with it. I wouldn't be surprised if the Wii U version is already or near done. They are just sitting on it so they can release both versions at once.

Apple launches new devices with a 1 week turn around. That is the new normal for consumer electronics. It has always been kind of silly from a mass consumer standpoint to have huge gaps between announcement and launch, you are just letting hype die for most of your non-mainstream customers. If you announce with lots of hype and launch quickly after you get way more impulse purchases because no one has had time to let their excitement wear off. Add in some fake shortages and you can ride that hype time for months.

This makes sense when you're releasing an expected revision once every year. Not so much when your new hardware is once every 5-6 years and you're coming off a historically bad release.

"Officially"

Seeing ¨NX officially¨ made me so freaking excited..

fuck you.

putting 'NX' and 'officially" in the title is a very mean thing.

My apologies, you're correct that the topic title is factually incorrect. I have put in a request to have it changed.

This DS dates and math don't make sense?

Yeah, that's an extra two years

My apologies for the typo. It has been edited.

Jesus Christ, people, you guys are getting way too worked up about this. Nintendo will announce the damn thing when it's ready to be announced, either they're waiting for the right time and/or they're getting a showcase ready to try and really blow people's socks off.

There is still plenty of time.

Maybe the console is an even worse clusterfuck than Wii U, so they are taking all this time to figure out how to explain the damn thing.

The NX is a revolution in forum speculation that must never be revealed so as to prevent the competition from stealing their idea of never unveiling a product to drum up endless hype.

Would Wii U (2011 E3 reveal, end of 2012 release) have been the longest time between reveal and release of a Nintendo platform? Given how much doom and gloom there was over it for so long before it even got to come out, Nintendo's secrecy over NX could be a direct reaction to that.

Not the same thing at all.

Apple launch product that people know and want already... Also they are upgrades, not new concepts.

And even with Apple only announcing a new iPhone one week before release, everyone and their dog know that a new iPhone gets released every September. The release of a new iPhone is not exactly surprising.

We won't reveal it until we get 10 million likes on on Facebook or retweets with the hashtag #NoPlayLikeIt.

Nintendo should totally milk this.

Basically, a company who has failed at messaging and communication in the past is failing again? They are losing their "spin" window if it is poorly received ala Xbone. IF they delay that compounds the good will. Plus the average gamer who doesn't live on msg boards.. may or may not even know it is a thing...maybe doesn;t think Nintendo has put a system out since the Wii... maybe they could have used a years worth of messaging to build hype..
unless what they have is hypedeath and they need to "no review copies until release day" it.

All these nothing Nintendo topics about the NX that we're seeing almost daily makes it perfectly clear how Nintendo has been able to keep a specific niche of their fans addicted to them. Especially on the heels of the Metroid fervor (or like Mother, DQVII, etc). Keep teasing and giving them nothing to keep people riled up. Then reveal something that will be treated as a bigger deal than it actually is. Topics like this are an obvious symptom.

Lol what... You can't say officially when it's not even officially announced, yet officially released, OP. At least it is not an |OT| but at this point why stop!

This. The constant handwringing is silly.
