Palmer Luckey issue statement on actions on Nimble America

I've nothing against people who choose to boycott Oculus for their association with Luckey, but I wonder how consistent it is.

Do you also intend to boycott Marvel comic and cinematic universes, pop culture phenomenons as they are, for having a CEO (and wife) who is making far greater contributions to the Trump campaign? This was known before Civil War came out, for example. The runaway success of Marvel/Disney movie and tv series line (and to whatever extent also the comics), including CW recently gross 1 billion+ WW, has a direct money line to the Perlmutter family and that family is making huge donations to the Trump campaign (400,000 just this month vs. Luckey's 10,000 to a SuperPAC). Which VR product I'm going to buy is still a far ways off, so my decision on that is fairly irrelevant, but I can't say I'm going to stop watching Marvel movies anytime soon.

Most products are not necessities, Marvel movies included, and often have other better alternatives. It's a lot easier than you make it sound.

I don't see much of a difference between white supremacists who admit they're white supremacists and someone who is effectively white supremacist.

People aren't upset because of the connection to Trump, we're upset because the group Palmer funded are white supremacists.

I see. The line is so thin, and so directly tied to the candidate himself, it can be hard for me to see the difference. As things stand, I think Perlmutter is scarier and more damaging, partially because he is virtually unchallenged despite being a public and open line of capital from one of the most lucrative media businesses in the world (and he was buddy-buddy with Trump before he was the definite Republican candidate), but I guess I could see how the Yiannopoulos route is more shady or dirty in character and that being the core of the boycott argument.

I already don't watch or consume any Marvel media, what do I win?

A copy of Superman V Batman. Congrats!

EDIT: I don't think anyone is a hypocrite, unless, maybe, they are an asshole to people who still want to buy a Oculus or w/e.

If that is the case, sorry Riposte.

I'm starting to think we need a new thread with the title "Palmer Lucky lies in "apology" for funding alt-right hate group"

or

"Palmer Lucky admits to funding racist alt-right organization"

So many low information finger wagging posts.

Then you'd have posts about how the thread title needs to be changed.

FYI, the reason people in this thread want to make it very clear that this isn't just about Luckey liking Trump, it's about him funding a white supremacist group; is because thats the narrative Luckey himself is trying to push. If you believe that people are just mad that he likes Trump, you've already fallen for the trap. His entire apology is not based around his involvement with Nimble America - because he outright admits that, though he's likely still lying about how deep his involvement is - his apology is based around trying to establish that he's voting for Gary Johnson. Not only is this still a lie and still pretty despicable, but it's a debating tactic where Luckey changes the focus of the argument to make it seem like the thing hes being attacked for is his political stance, not his moral one.

I already don't watch or consume any Marvel media, what do I win?

Superior taste, for one.

I thought Trump was considered a fascist white supremacist?

Trump, as bad as he is, turned to Breitbart as a last resort. He didn't become involved with them until he had exhausted every other reasonable (and fairly unreasonable) option, from crawling back to the Koch Brothers to getting in bed with pro-Putin Russian political strategists. He tried to court the establishment. He tried to pose as a good Christian to pull in the religious right. He even tried to attract the fiscal revolutionaries spurned by Bernie's failure. There's a case to be made that even he, dullard and demagogue that he is, wouldn't have turned to the alt-right if he had literally any other option. We're talking about a man who was slow to disavow David Duke, and he still didn't hook up with this group until his campaign was in an epic rout and he had run out of other snake-oil salesmen promising him a turn-around.

That's the quality of people that Luckey has chosen, actively and without prompting, to make himself the "proud" patron of. The sort of people that even Trump would have rather not associated with, given a choice.

When your strategy is to publicly distance yourself from the guy you are most likely privately still voting for....

From the thread about SUPERHYPERCUBE dropping support, here's the video about why Hotdogs, Horseshoes, and Hand grenades is dropping support.

Guy is awesome.

I've noticed devs seem to be saying "We've already had frustrations with Oculus, this is the straw that breaks the camel's back" quite a bit.

But obviously, the idea that money from the products they sell through Oculus' store will partially go into the pocket of someone who funds groups that spread hatred about them or their loved ones is a major motivating factor.

A pet peeve of mine is that Spider-man seems like he is picking up speed a lot when he is in mid air and going thorough the window and well after he bounces from the column... it looks like he picks up a lot of speed all of a sudden.

Not that this is totally on topic, but isn't he shooting webs to pull him through the window after jumping off the column?

It looks like he shoots a web at the glass and pulls himself through it.

He's shooting a web, you can see his arm pointing outwards and a web coming out. He's gaining momentum that way.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

Isn't he propelling himself using his webs?

Watch closer. He does a quick web zip on the window frame.

Oh yeah the topic....

I was planning to buy a Vive anyway because I don't care for some of the recent business decisions that Oculus has made.

Oculus Founder: Evidence Of Me Supporting Donald Trump Just “Very Convincing VR Simulation”

Oculus founder and VR entrepreneur Palmer Luckey has come out swinging against allegations that he secretly funded a group supporting racist megalomaniac Donald Trump, saying that his critics were “trapped in a VR simulation” and “could not be trusted”.
“This simulation, which I designed and deployed in secret, is so convincing that it actually tricked these journalists into thinking that they had evidence I had directly contributed millions of dollars towards getting the horrifying nuclear idiot that is Donald Trump elected.”

“Unfortunately, this idea is pure fantasy. I mean, the very idea that a Silicon Valley tech bro millionaire could have awful political views that are desperately out of touch with the real world is simply crazy.”

“To make someone believe such a patently unrealistic idea– this is the true power of virtual reality,” he concluded.

there is something seriously wrong with a "person" that shames a fat guy who is actively at the gym. I mean, even if your principals are against that shit you have to at least recognize the dude is at the gym trying to make things better. People are awful.
As I was playing Forza Horizon 3 yesterday, I decided to listen to the Joe Rogan podcast featuring Milo (out of curiosity as I had no exposure to the man wondered why he was reviled), and he discussed this bit. He said he shouldn't have to look at fat people and be repulsed by them cause they are in his presence and distract him. They should work out in private until the are at an acceptable size to be seen outside.

The dude is a fucking lunatic. Its a shame he has an audience that likes him. Truly deplorable.

I've never listened to Joe Rogan before, did he have something to say about Milo's rant?

The dude was ranting for 3 hours about the left, among some other things like this fat shaming part. But some times Rogan would give a counter argument to things but he seemed to like Milo so he never got in his face or told him the shit he says is wrong. I was a little disappointed in Joe in that regard. I had to laugh at a bit when Joe asked him if he found anything wrong at all about what Trump has been saying this past year, and Milo said "absolutely nothing". I was laughing because its so preposterous, but also out of fear because people like him exist.

To be honest, I won't be surprised if it comes out that Milo like taking BBCs. What a deplorable human being and a shitstain on LGBT folks. I, as a rainbow card-carrying member of the gay agenda, disown him.

You can support Trump without being a white supremacist; being a Republican candidate covers more bases than immigration and race/gender/religion politics. There aren't enough mental gymnastics in the world to directly support (and let's face it, run) a white supremacist group whose sole purpose is spreading race hate without being a white supremacist, though.

The really bizarre aspect of Rubin's "I take him at his word" is that EVERYONE had seen the Daily Beast emails from Palmer to the journalist where he admits he was NimbleRichGuy before Rubin wrote it.

So either Jason Rubin wrote that statement with no idea at all what the actual controversy was, or he was complicit with Palmer in lying about it.

I mean, taking Luckey at his word means that The Daily Beast fabricated the email, and after what happened to Gawker there is no way they would try that. And they haven't actually addressed TDB's evidence, thereby skirting the actual issue. Basically, their statements are just as much meaningless fluff as Luckey's and they are by extension complicit in his hateful bullshit.

Point of fact, he's deflected accusations of racism by bringing up performing fellatio on black men (I'm paraphrasing)

but seriously, Milo is gross. Here you can listen to him defend sex with children

You can literally smell the stink of entitlement all the way to Europe here given he doesn't even consider that some people might not even have enough space in their homes to work out sufficiently until they are "at an acceptable size" to be able to go to a gym by his standards.

And I mean yeah they could also work out in public but honestly if that douchebag is fatshaming in a gym I don't think for a second he wouldn't do that just straight up in public as well. I bet it only would be worse there.

^ Man, fuck Joe Rogan then, whoever that is.

ughhh Joe Rogan has a litany of guests; he tries to explore their ideologies, test some of their beliefs in terms of evidence/argument and tries to remain fairly impartial. He doesn't attack the motivation behind ideologies as much as he just finds people who are very different from himself interesting. Yes Milo is a fuckhead but if Joe had a show where he just attacked him, not only would it be boring but you would never hear how some of these views are even justified. The podcast is great.

Sorry for the off topic response but the gif is small, he gains speed from pulling himself with his web, if you look closely on the gif or the original material.

Edit: Oh sorry, already answered.

Now I have to think of something to contribute to the thread but I can't.

Edit2: Lol, there are a dozen answers. Delete this post maybe? :D

Joe Rogen has summed up his thoughts on Milo in followup episodes "he's a troll".

He also clearly didn't sanction Milo's buffoonery at several points... rolling his eyes and calling him out on the silliness of some of his arguments.

I can appreciate those who don't want anyone to give Milo a platform, or entertaining his nonsense.... but I personally don't think Rogen can be considered on Milo's side at all.

It does look like more a "I'm not sorry about what I did, I'm sorry that it cause a problem to the Oculus"... ore like an internal company apologies... :\

I agree. He does worse things in society than just being a mockery artist.

But with that statement, you can get a sense for why Rogen has him on the show. It's not to laud his opinion as a right wing activist, but to interview a famous provocateur. As a comedian, there's an overlap of skill set. I don't think he agrees with much of anything Milo actually says, beyond the excesses of PC culture.

At first glance he does look like a troll. I didn't know who he was before watching the video linked in the previous page, and my first reaction was to think that had to be an act. I mean, I'm still not convinced that's real. It's too much. :-|

Nah, man. Fuck Joe Rogan. Dude can go around being the comedy police but then he has to be fair he gives a platform to someone like Milo? Inexcusable.

If you keep an act up 24/7 can it really be called an act?

Milo's also all over British TV debate shows. Despite how we talk about him on GAF, he's actually not a stigmatized figure when it comes to the media.

Maybe he should be. But I think it will take a further event to spell out to mainstream media that he's a problem. The Leslie Jones/Twitter ban only raised his stature.
