Had mine a couple of hours now, few quick impressions:
  • Low res is noticeable in Driveclub, its not been an issue with anything else.
  • Brief moment of queasiness in Playroom when I went down a slide.
  • Tracking - keeps moving the screen over to the left so I'm resetting the position often. Hoping this will go away when I muck about with lighting later. No issues with controller tracking though.

So I got the move controllers, a camera and the headset today.

Games: VR Worlds, Playroom VR, Eve Valkyrie, Until Dawn RoB, Driveclub, Sports Bar, Rez and all the free stuff.

On VR Worlds I played the Shark attack. Pretty good intro to VR I guess. I've never used VR before.
I got as much enjoyment from bashing the rock around on the VR Worlds menu too. It's very convincing.

Next I tried Driveclub. I did a couple of races. No sickness but I was starting to feel a bit fatigued by the end of it. My second race was a lot less smoothly driven than my first though. The blurriness of the graphics was a little bit disappointing because normal Driveclub was stunning, but it's understandable given the circumstances.

Lastly I tried the Kitchen demo. When the knife goes close to your face it really does make you want to move away instinctively.

All in all I'm really quite impressed.
It's an immersive experience. It doesn't feel like a cheaped out bit of kit and it really works. No massive camera jittering of any sort here and the controllers are OK the majority of the time. I wish the resolution was a teensy bit higher just to make text a bit clearer and help make things a tiny bit crisper but the image is by no means bad and good software design can help alleviate those shortcomings somewhat.

I didn't puke which is a bonus but the fact I started to feel a bit fatigued tells me I need to build up to it a bit more before I try to play for two hours or more at any given time.

Hopefully it'll take off and do well because I'd love to see a PSVR 2 with a much higher resolution screen when the PS5 comes out.

Yup I'm weak. Had an order from when preorders went live in March. Cancelled it a few weeks ago because I was on the fence, work up this morning and saw that Amazon had bundles available and of course bought one. It will be here Saturday.

Initial impression: Man this is way more comfortable than my Gear VR but still.. 10 minutes and my forehead is full of red spots, I'm not even tightening the thing at all and it still feels too tight. :(

Has anyone gotten VR videos to work? This is supposed to support media playback of VR vids, right?

How exactly do you go about that? If it was something you downloaded off your PC, what file format would it need? Just copy to a USB stick and run it?

Waiting for delivery. Have preloaded

Batman
Thumper
Playroom
VR Worlds
REZ
Until Dawn

I have the core coming, but only last night realized I only have one Move controller. I SWEAR thought I always had 2. How much is a used Move at Gamestop?

Also haven't followed closely, but is there a date for the DOAX update?

Job Simulator is finally up but it's $29. Anyone play this before? It's one of the best looking experiences for me but $29.99 is steep for what it is.

I don't think it works very well with PSVR. Idk if they can patch that but I'd definitely wouldn't want to spend $30.

Very interested in this. Someone please try and report back!

I'd be shocked and amazed if you could do that...

God, I'm struggling. Do I keep my preorder this time? As someone new to VR, am I ready for this?

Just vacillating back and forth even after ordering it on Amazon a second time...

Standing outside the store. 5 minutes to go.

As a precaution to avoid any possible queasiness when I get this home, the first thing I'm going to do is go into the options and do that extra optional bit of calibration, then I'm taking a ginger tablet.

Then I'm jumping in with both feet.

Got mine a about an hour ago but since im working from home i only had time to do a rough set up and have a quick go on Battle Zone before going back to do some work.

Will need some more time using it but so far im very pleased with what i saw and cant wait to try more.

It was pretty warm in my house so i ended up getting really sweaty on my face with it on and had to wipe the lenses a couple of times but hopefully that wont be a big issue.

Now to just finish work and get it all set up properly to have a real go of it.

You download the vid to a flash drive and stick it in. Only supports 1080p so it looks pretty crummy. Doesn't seem to work with stereoscopic 360 degree vids either.

Until Dawn is fantastic buuuuut I had to stop after two levels. The roller coster really fucked me up which is understandable because I dont handle fairground rides to well in real life.

Need to take a break for a bit.

This says a lot to me about how accessible PSVR is. There is no way you could do this with the Rift or Vive first time setting them up.

Anything in particular?

Idk if it's different for the full game but the demo forces you to stand. And at the distance where they want you to stand the tracking gets inaccurate and that introduces some swimming which makes you feel like you're about to fall over. If you walk forward it becomes stable but then you don't stand in correct spot for all the action.

This was my experience at least.

You can do just that. Put your files in a folder (doesn't work at the root because sony) on a USB key. Go into media player, press option and select VR mode.
There are caveats though. It has to be SBS, and I couldn't find a setting to adjust the fov or whatever its called: I felt small, like *really* small. Everybody was a giant.
There was this giant girl...

edit: What do you guys mean by stereoscopic? My video was 3D and I could move my head around just fine. As I said, I think it misses a ton of options but it's there.

Got a lot of jittering back and forth on the DS4 controller. Goggle tracking seems solid, though. Also the "allowed" area feels way too small, I can't even put the controller in my lap without games complaining.

That could explain why it didn't work for me. The video I tried was over/under.

Mine arrived last night. Spent a few hours trying the demos and some of the games I'd purchased. Here's some quick impressions.

The smoothness and responsiveness of the headset tracking is perfect. It's hard to imagine they could even improve on it. I've only played with a dual shock so far and the tracking there is no where near as smooth and accurate as the headset, which is a shame. I need to find one more move controller before I can try the move controller demos.

I downloaded the demos from the SEN store and some of the demos in there are not playable. You can only press X to buy the game and not play it. Is this the same if I insert the physical demo disk? Would have been nice to try Bound in VR.

Rigs looks and feels incredible, I think this will be my next full game purchase. I deliberately tried it on the 'Pro' mode where is disables the comfort settings to see if I could get it to make me feel sick. No problems there.

The image quality and clarity of Wayward sky seems to be quite a bit above most of the other demos. Obviously its probably not as demanding of a game but its good to see the device can produce some amazing results.

I assume everyone's headset got a firmware upgrade once they plugged it in? I wonder if this was available prior to the Giantbomb stream.

Don't forget to go into the system settings and measure the distance between you eyes. With this setting and getting the headset into that sweet spot by adjusting how it sits on your head makes a huge difference. When I attended a demo it was really blurry and I thought the tech was a bit crappy. It really isn't.

I tried Driveclub (which I love in 2D). Was a little disappointed in the visuals. I did a lap in the cockpit view and felt fine. When I tried a lap in the exterior view I felt way more sick. I imagine a lot of people that reviewed this and said they felt sick were racing in the overhead camera. I need to give this another go with my wheel setup.

Overall I'm really happy and impressed with the tech. Was starting to feel like I may have just wasted a load of money prior to release, that feeling has gone now.

Was in the same boat as you. Cancelled a preorder, then woke up and saw Amazon had stock so bought one this morning. I was still torn, but my girlfriend's advice was to just buy it because I'd be kicking myself if I don't and it's out of stock until after Christmas.

Really, really loving it so far.

Driveclub is decent enough, graphics aren't much of an issue for me. Will definitely complete everything, like I did the base game. (Although the trophies seem bugged right now)

Thumper is brilliant. Can't wait to play more of that.

Still got tonnes to try out!

Is the VR Unit overheating issue not coming up for anyone then?

I've seen a couple things mentioning it occurs but not sure if it indicates an issue with the item or environment

https://support.us.playstation.com/articles/en_US/KC_Article/PS-VR-Care-and-maintenance

The PS4 itself was going crazy also, but the warning specifically was around the VR unit.
That link says the chances increase of PS4 being able to overheat if you have the headset on top of it. No reason, other than a hardware problem, for the headset to overheat - its just an OLED panel, six-axis tech, and LEDs.

Thank you, Sir!

This is the one bit of information i couldn't find a solid answer on. The adjustment of the IO is incredibly important to get right folks.

I dropped by to have a look. They do take walkins if you had the time to wait. I reckon I could have tried it had I waited 10 mins.

oh cool. didn't realise there was walk ins. I might try it at lunch tomorrow if I'm in the office. tried to see if I could maybe pick one up today but everywhere is sold out. there's loads in belfast though :-/

All 26 hours. Multiple times.

Hold on.
If that is indeed the case.. i dunno, smh.

Impressions sound great - really curious to hear more tracking impressions, because that was/is the thing that has me most on the fence about re-upping. Seems like it works fine, but the DS4 tracking can be fucked on occasion, while the move tracking works better?

Do you still need the PS4 turned on so the camera will track the headset?

Yes, still needs to connect the PS VR video box to the PS4, but you can then connect your PC to the box.

Basically: set it up as you usually do, but instead of connecting PS4 to the conversion unit, connect your PC to it instead.

Anyone try Here They Lie?

It looks real promising from the trailer. Hoping it's one of the breakout horror launch experiences.
