Yes, it was a different game, I own it as well.

Yeah, I'm reading up on it now and it seems like it was a direct sequel to whatever story the arcade game had. It also looks a quite a bit darker in terms of the color palette, which seems decidedly un-Sega.

I don't hate the game entirely, but I don't enjoy it a lot either, plus it has some odd design choices and is unfairly hard.

Oh my god, what's the name of that arcade game that's like futuristic olympics where one of the games you're catching a missile and throwing it off into the distance?? And in the 100 yard you're running so fast you break the sound barrier??

I think it was shown on Super Best Friends once. This is gonna drive me crazy.

Only got a video link, but I loved GTI Club! (and especially the attract mode music!)

It received a PS3 enhanced port.
60fps and all.

The various knights of valour games are blatant D&D Capcom games rip offs but are also legit.
Igs is a short lived Korean company that focused on cloning successful games, but it has to be said they were pretty good at it.
Take the pixel art in kov. It looks 100% genuine Capcom cps2 stuff, which is absolutely remarkable

Jesus. Even with this retro drive, no indie developer has been able to do what Sega and Namco were doing in arcades in the late 80's and the 90's.

The above games require numerous staff and skilled programmers and artists

If you look at the end credits there are at least 20-30 people involved

Arika's very own "version" of SFEX. It's pretty good, it even has a couple of SFEX characters in it.

I just watched a Friday Night Fisticuffs video of this yesterday by the Super Best Friends and it looks amazing! I've always heard of it but never watched any videos and it definitely looks like a better version of SFEX than the EX series itself imo. The clash system was neat and a lot of the characters had really nice/unique move sets from what I saw. Pretty sad that it never got a console release....:(.

the original arcade versions of SPIKEOUT Digital Battle online games

oh man i only learned about this recently as yakuzafan's YT channel has been doing a history of the yakuza series & i think this came up on Nagoshi's resume, looks like the Streets of Rage 3D game we'd all hoped Fighting Force would've been!

Mocap Boxing. I was shocked because this came out years before the Wii and was never ported to a motion controlled based system.

yesss. i can't believe i only just found out about battle street a few weeks ago! i ordered a copy immediately and im going to pick up an xbox for it asap. i would have liked to play the original again, but this seems like mostly the same game for the most part, with a slightly grittier art style, remixed stages, and a story mode (not to mention a little girl who uses akira yuki's moveset and win poses!).

i wish we could have seen how the dreamcast version of final edition looked before it was cancelled

Konami Racing Jam

Came out around the time as Scud Race, and while it didn't look quite as nice, the huge panoramic monitor was amazing to play on for the time. IIRC it ran on the Cobra hardware that was supposed to be Konami's answer to Model 3.

Maybe the arcade version was good, but from what I played of the Xbox game...it's not great, but not abysmal either, just ok. Plus it had design choices that didn't make much sense. I wish the Xbox game was half as good as a Streets of Rage game.

Some of you peeps should give DFO a try one of these days, it tickles the 80s-90s sidescroller itch nicely.

It also tickles the "leveling up and getting new skills" itch, which I suffer from badly.

Amazing thread, one of the best I've come across in a long time.

Dammit how I wish I could go back to the 90s and play a lot of these games in an arcade. Is there truly no way to play them today outside of watching a playthrough on YouTube?

Seraphis Cain

bad gameplay lol

If they'd port the damn thing to current-gen consoles already I'd be all over it.

I used to love playing this, as it was so very Comic Book-like. I thought it had great graphics for a 1991 release, and I always wondered why there was never a home console port...

... This would also be my main frame of reference for Namor and Black Cat for years to come.

Loved playing this and The Punisher & Nick Fury game as a kid. The Avengers beat-em-up where you could play as Vision was great, too. Definitely remember renting the home console port for that one on NES many times, though.

For arcades, hardly. Emulation sadly is the safest way along with buying arcade PCBs.
