NX Preview Trailer Tomorrow at 10am ET, is 3 minutes long

If you think you can somehow have a mobile chip as powerful or nearly as powerful as the PS4/XBO, you're delusional.
Well you can, but that thing would be bulky as hell and hotter than the sun, with a battery life in minutes rather than hours.

I don't want weak specs because you can, if you want, play your console on the go.
It's such a shame, because weak specs aren't just worse graphics (which don't matter at all to me, graphics aren't important), but mostly would not make the third party developpers want to port/develop for your device.

So many "facts" out of you this morning, lol.

Man looking back at that trailer, no wonder people didn't have a clue what the Wii U was, everything looks like a new controller for the Wii

They cannot make the same mistake with this first look one

Even here on GAF we were confused after the reveal. I remember that Kotaku console picture that it's actually a new console and not an add-on so I don't blame the general public.

Seriously though don't be creepy

eeeeeeyeeeaah sure...

And the new 3D Sonic game. Dragon Quest X and XI also were announced for NX.

Oh shit I didn't know the new Sonic game was announced for NX, I thought it was the one system it WASN'T announced for?

Or is that a different one?

Also had no idea about Dragon Quest.

None of these are gimped handheld titles, person I was initially replying to, btw. So far every announced NX game is a full fledged console game.

Yes but the rumours also say a very bad battery life and active cooling.
And that makes no sense to me, so I choose not to believe those.

So you only believe the rumors that fit what you want to believe about the system?

I honestly will not be surprised at all if it turns out to have shit battery life. That's kind of the cost of putting a full console in a portable. It's not like the Wii U has spectacular battery life. I don't really play many handheld games so unless there's some kind of reason not to, my NX will likely live most of its life in its dock and the poor battery life will be a non-issue for me.

So you skipped the last two Nintendo systems too?
It's going to be underpowered regardless, it's Nintendo.

They need to rely less on third party support if all their studios are working on one platform though.

No I didn't, because I love first party Nintendo games, I think they are the best in the industry.

About the bolded part, this is a huge mistake to me.
Nintendo would get many more sells if their platform wasn't so polarizing: you buy it and only get first party games, but third party games are only available elsewhere.

I just hope that if they're going the hybrid route, Nintendo invest more money into the goddamn screen on the device than they did with the 3DS and Wii U.

The Wii U Gamepad's screen in particular is a fucking washed out looking embarrassment.

Lol everything leaked save for the name, look and games

I know this is not the time to question Eurogamer and Emily Rogers, but I am still cautiously optimistic

Things change and their reports regarding hardware aren't exactly a week old.

Hope the NX doesn't come in just black or white. I want Gamecube purple or transparent (like the N64 DK set, with the jungle green N64) or even something with glitter as long as it's not just black and white.

Oh, and a matte finish please Nintendo. Fingerprints suck.

I would imagine you will be able to purchase a various backplates etc for it. I think that side of the 3dds has been pretty successful for Nintendo.

This is my opinion, not facts, and I'd love you to prove me wrong, honestly.

But apparently you can't or won't, which doesn't add much to the discussion.

You can't prove anything right or wrong either, Ms. Cleo, lol. Geez.

You are just spewing your opinion as fact and are very adamant about hating something you literally know nothing about.

Will they show a game? I feel they kinda have to after the shit show Wii U reveal. I don't really care about the console as long as it has games.

I think Nintendo saying it's a home console actually tells us a lot about the branding/marketing for NX. I guess they're gonna advertise it as home console that you can take with you on the go.

My prediction: 2 minutes of filler skit that will result in 100 pages of OMG JUST SHOW US ALREADY, a glance at the consoles absolute mainline gimmick, and an announcement of the real announcement. No name, price or release date beyond "spring/summer 2017"

There will be no game announcements and there will certainly never be any talk of specs - ever.

Hopefully they just focus on it being a robust handheld since the hardware rumours sound much better for a portable and terrible as a home console.

3 mins is more thren enough time to show specs , some nice shots of it's design , a 1 minute montage of games and a rough idea of its release / price.
Sure they could reveal all that in 3 minutes, but would they? That seems more suited for a Nintendo Direct no? Or at least a proper media event where they could invite the press and have demos and physical hardware available. Then they could have press shots available, specs, full list of upcoming games etc...

This will be nothing but a tease that will reveal a date for its full unveiling.

Would you be happy with a 6.2 inch 720p screen

Wow, 7am PT/3pm BST! And to think some of us were crazy for expecting an announcement then every day :p

Nope. At least on my launch basic Wii U, it's one of the best screens you could ask for on a controller. It's an IPS panel with rock-solid viewing angles and a pretty wide colour space for 2012.

If you have to complain about the image quality, it's likely the compression of the video stream from Wii U to GamePad that's to blame, not the actual quality of the display. An uncompressed stream at 60fps and 480p would be sending too much data for Wi-Fi to handle.

My complaints with the GamePad screen boil down to its use of resistive touch technology, which means it's coated by an incredibly reflective film, rather than oleophobic glass (Vita-2000) or an antireflective coating (top screen N3DS/N3DS XL).

I can.
Handheld form factor and battery limits the hardware you're able to implement in your device.

If that doesn't make sense to you, then you're living in the future.
In 2016, true home bound consoles are going to be much more powerful than handheld consoles, at the same price.

Edit: for the part you added to your message after posting it, I don't take my opinion as facts, but I don't see how Nintendo could find a way to have a console remotely near PS4/XBO levels of power, in a handheld.

The day of reckoning is upon us (kind of).

My prediction:

Skit with Miyamoto playing around Universal Studios
Miyamoto/Reggie/Kimishima talking about the philosophy of Nintendo and the new piece of hardware
Name reveal
Date announced for official unveiling, probably next Tuesday or Friday

I highly doubt we will get to see the actual hardware, but I can see the name being revealed. We might get five seconds of Mario if we are lucky.

Yeah i just watched that back as well. Actually it is a pretty shocking video/ad/trailer. I wasn't confused though, i guess because we knew it was a new console beforehand, but you can see why loads others were.

The 3ds preview is great though. Never seen that before now, (i can't remember it at least). Pretty smart and fun.

I absolutely agree. The Wii and Wii U look generic. They don't really have an identity the way, for example, the J/EU SNES did and the clear "Atomic" purple Game Boy Color had.

I get that black/white/glossy/whatever is playing it safe, but Nintendo stands out precisely when they declare their identity front and centre. Not necessarily different for clicks/gimmicks, but by design and as a statement.

But don't you realize that what you are saying - that console power comes at the cost of battery life - matches the rumors that it has poor battery life?

I mean we'll find out in 3 and a half hours anyway but... *shrug* Off to bed for me.

I'm thinking a small montage of the consoles that preceded the NX, then reveal what the NX looks like. Segway into people playing clips of Zelda and emphasizing the gimmicks on the NX. Close with the name of the console and the release date.

We will get a Direct before the end of the year for software and a full reveal and another in January for pricing and launch bundles and all that.

Alright erryone! Hype levels approaching max. This monumentous occasion will fuel the next five months of speculation and debate here and elsewhere. Very excited to see what theyve been cooking up and I hope it will be worth the wait.

I think the fact that they branded this as a trailer and not a digital event/Direct means they probably won't waste time on a skit or on talking directly to the camera. At least that's what I'm hoping.

Yeah, If it is a home console you can take on the go, it would explain the possibility of being a cart based console - it would reduce the form factor considerably.

Perhaps the nes mini is a sign of the times to come. Just package it up in a small protective case on you go!

The Sonic Mania game (2D Sonic) wasn't announced for NX, but yeah the 3D Sonic game was announced for NX along with DQ X and DQ XI.

Of course we have the rumor BG&E2 is coming exclusively to NX.

If that devkit photo is legit I'm quite happy with the look of it. Just need to see the controls.
Funny enough if that dev kit is real it didn't show the detachable controllers on the sides.

It did have three holes on the sides though to imply that's where you attach the controllers.
