Sounds like we'll get the launch reveal event sometime in january (or maybe feb if they real crazy) outlining more system features, release date, price, and trailers for launch window games (and maybe tease games that are further out, tho E3 seems to be the place for games beyond 2017)

Seems about right.
All around an elegant rollout it seems.

I don't think it could have gone any better. Talking to my friend at work today and we were both impressed and excited.

As disappointed as I am in no more major news until next year, I agree.

People will complain for the next two months but they'll all be in the Switch Software Direct thread in January going crazy with the rest of us.

I don't know what that says about the number of launch games when they are only giving 2 months notice on the lineup. This whole thing has been really weird.

This whole reveal just reeks of them waiting until the last possible moment to reveal it without annoying fans or investors too much.

Ehhhhh. I mean I was partially expecting them to hold out till Jan so I guess it makes sense but still... Hopefully that iron can be reignited safely. I just hope the two months of nothing doesn't cause too much damage. That Skyrim thing that's going around and the confusion about the touch screen are pretty bad. We have no idea if Mario Kart is a port or a new game. Still a lot of unanswered questions that would've been nice to follow up on this week or something.

Wait, I thought Emily said it was gonna be Region free?

Mochizuki doesn't mean it won't be, just that Nintendo haven't confirmed if it is or isn't.

It's launching in March

for me the hard part is over honestly, only thing spec wise I'm curious about is it if uses Pascal or not

other than that bring on pricing and when I can preorder

I can wait til January

THey would have been best revealing that video in January and then doing something a bit more formal a couple of weeks later.

No way dude, those NX rumor threads online were already going crazy that could not have held out til Jan lol

I always said reveal now and big blowout in Jan

Man, I was really anticipating the FULL reveal with lots of game footage this year. I imagine a lot of others were as well. A 3 minute teaser and then nothing for months is a doozy.

OH COME ON.

So I guess that means no more directs for the rest of the year, huh?

I know there's been quite the amount of angry controversies regarding hype culture in the AAA industry, but this is pretty much the other extreme!

So no confirmation on SD support either?

It was in the leaks, but I don't recall seeing anything official.

It's interesting that people spent ages saying how insane it was to only reveal the system five months from launch, and now after one three-minute video everyone and their dog wants one.

I think Nintendo can reveal new info literally whenever they want and not have to worry.

Fire whoever is responsible for this.

Why is this everyone's go-to response for anything even remotely disappointing? It's disrespectful as hell.

OK, I'm gonna say what everyone is thinking but dare not to say: Nintendo doesn't have much to show.

I find it hard to believe Nintendo wouldn't have at least one working Kart track or Splatoon map they could show off if they wanted to. It's dissapointing but they're probably hoping to just sell as much Wii U and 3DS as they can (though are there even any more Wii U releases now that Color Splash is out?).

Nintendo knows what it is doing by holding back the reveal this long and then making you wait in anticipation for more. Also this reveal as I mentioned before puts people contemplating a console this holiday on the fence. Only a couple of months after Xmas for a totally new console.

If this is really what they're going to do, I don't know how Nintendo expects to survive until the Switch launches... whenever it does.

By focusing on what they can actually sell this holiday season vs. selling something they can't?

I mean I'd like to know more soon but this makes sense for them. Then after year changes they can really start hyping it up with a big event in January.

#TeamJanuary for games reveal

They don't want to show anything else Switch related this year because they feel it could negatively impact holiday sales for their existing consoles. It makes since to me, even though it sucks that fans will be in the dark again for another 3 months.

Not even launch line-up? Was going to pre-order this week, but now nagh. Served up a really cool premise, but if they're not even going to capitalise on it until <10 weeks to launch, I don't have a lot of faith riding on this console year 1.

December would have been perfect. There are so many games launching Q1 next year.

I don't see anything wrong with this tbh. They can talk about this stuff closer to launch to build excitement.

The start of 2017 has some of the strongest game lineups in game history, why the fuck would you wait until then to announce your stuff?

If it weren't for the investors meeting we probably wouldn't have learned anything until a month before launch.

I believe that the video today was meant to plant the seed and I think it spread a lot more quickly than they thought. It makes sense that they really want this thing to pop huge in January.

An Animal Crossing Direct was announced in September for November 2nd.

They still are planning to sell 3DS and Wii U this holiday. Why bother messing with those plans by burying the existing lineup?

Telling us more now just lets hype run out before launch. It also won't make the device come any faster. We now turn to third party devs talking anonymously about their plans or leaks of games coming to Switch. January 10 will be here before you know it.

Also, they needed to get this out before the investor meeting.

We're on an enthusiast forum.

It's not our attention that they need to keep and build momentum on.

That's... frustrating.

I was definitely hoping they'd use the coming weeks to tease new Switch announcements up until the full reveal (January?). This also contradicts some of what Laura Buzz said, namely that the specs would be released by the end of the month.

I guess we'll see what happens next week. At least third parties can now announce Switch games (assuming there are any).
