Nintendo Switch Presentation - January 12th

They remade every textures, 3d models, and I think the result was really great, and in 1080p. I didn't had the chance to play it entierly, but even though it's not the best remaster, it still does a nice job of restoring a ten years old games to current standards.

It was a way harder job than remaking Wind Waker HD.

You just need to look at how many HD remasters are absolute disasters to know Tantalus did a good job.

My expectations:

  • More Zelda info
  • Mario 3D
  • Pikmin 4
  • Splatoon, Mario Kart, Smash Bros enhanced ports (2 out of those 3 will be announced in January, the third will be announced later)
  • Some junk launch games like Excite Bike and Nintendo Party and whatever else
  • 3rd party ports. Skyrim or Bioshock Infinite or some other crappy old game no one cares about
  • One notable 3rd party exclusive game
  • Price
  • Launch date
  • No tech specs
  • Online functionality will be addressed but won't be as informative as we would like
  • Miis are not gone, but they have way less focus now
  • There will still be some kind of interface gimmick to make the OS more "Nintendo" than just PS+ or XBL

U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!
Gamecube Virtual Console at launch. Games included at launch are Resident Eviĺ 4, Luigi's Mansion, Metroid Prime, Mario Sunshine and Super Monkey Ball.

I apologise for saying Super Mario Sunshine. I say it only because it's Mario so Nintendo kinda has to have it there if they're launching Gamecube VC. I'm so sorry. I do not wish Mario Sunshine upon any of you.

You think Resident evil 4 will be on the VC instead of just getting another port? Capcom's team who's job it is to apparently port that game to every platform in the world needs work too you know!

Edit: I doubt there'll be a Sun/Moon port. What the point?
Sell lots of copies, indicate this is where the series is headed, and do both without waiting several years for a new generation of games.

The people who have leaked a lot of other solid details say it doesn't seem to have them, and since we've all seen the machine if they're there they're well hidden.

Just curious, if it doesn't have a camera how could it read QR codes? Is there any other way?

And yea, Switch has a mic.
Why would it be important to read QR codes, though? I know 3DS used it for a few things like sharing Miis.

current standards? Not sure if serious. It looks like Twilight Princess on PS3 in 2007. 3D models were barely touched and how can it be a better job than Wind Waker if there was no improvements to lighting and shadows the most important aspect of graphics.

I can't get behind your reasoning. WW HD was a better remaster in every regard and really looks good, unlike TP. And no, TP' art style is also capable of looking great when you put actual effort in.

But now we are going off topic... so lets stop here

I didn't miss this little tidbit Vern!

So if the Switch we've seen thus far doesn't have a mic or camera, I wonder where those components would come in. Assuming that the above is suggesting that a mic and camera are included somewhere. The dock is very unlikely. I wonder if any other "add-on hardware" as Kimishima phrased it will actually be included in the base package.

Hopefully not as shitty as Xenoblade X.
It took some step forwards from Xenoblade 1 and steps backwards.

Most of the step backwards were from the Wii U's technical limitations and the player character not being voiced. And that God damn tiny font size.

The soundtrack also was a side step.

But I loved the mechs, Mira, the setting, cast, and what little story there was.

I want Monolith to release a game that doesn't scream "I'M A XENOBLADE GAME". We don't need another Bethesda. Make something new. Something better.

Gamecube VC? I'm buying a console the day they have FZero GX and Paper Mario: TTYD.

Considering how wildly they diverge, I'm not sure there's a good argument for the Xenoblade games as being samey as Skyrim was to Oblivion.

I also think GV VC is a big possibility, but I think they should remake Sunshine still. I want TTYD day one unless they want to remake that one!

If Tantalus did have a Switch project Super Mario Sunshine HD would make sense.

That would be nice. Nintendo should get them to remake it and fix some problems.

The latters is 100% not happening so the former. You might have missed that they just showed a new 3D Mario.

So? Does BotW stop the 5 remakes?

Gamecube VC. I don't think we'll ever see a Super Mario Sunshine remake (and I hope so, as there are a ton of Gamecube games that deserves more than this turd).
I think it should get a remake to be made better.

Honestly, in terms of being a full on remake, I think Sunshine should just be left alone. It's like, whatever, it happened, let's move on. 3D Mario's have only gotten better since then so it's no big deal.

That is what he is asking about. If the battery is never being fully drained and has opportunity for a charge anytime, will that kill the battery over time?
If the device is always plugged in and Nintendo isn't cutting the battery off to not charge to 100% then this will affect the battery over its lifespan.

Modern batteries don't like to be completely flat (0% on your smartphone is not completely flat from the battery perspective) but they also don't like being 100% charged.

I wouldn't expect them too too less focus on moo's consdering they seem to be apart of the visual backbone of Miitomo and my Nintendo.

Twilight Princess HD had ambient occlusion added, didn't it? That's an aspect of lighting. It certainly would have been nice if it got new lighting and shadows added, but that's actually a lot of work, and it would significantly alter the original art. Wind Waker was always going to be easier to update for HD because of it's cartoony art style.

I've always maintained that Twilight Princess would basically need to be a new game in order to significantly improve its visuals past what Tantalus was capable of doing. A lot of the graphical complaints in the game are a result of the compromises the game made to run on GCN/Wii hardware. For what TPHD is, it's a more than fine remaster and easily one of the best of this gen, but the kind of miracles people wanted for it were significantly beyond the scope of what Nintendo wanted.

I really hope for the Mario Kart 8 port we get some new stages based off of Metroid. Then we could get a new character like Ridley. 😁

Sorry but no. 3D models are mostly untouched. They basically remade the textures and called it a day. Heck, it's still 30fps and manage to get some drops that weren't before. Wind Waker HD actually was a far better job and they redid the textures there too.

It wasn't a harder job, it was a fine job... if it was bundle with Skyward Sword HD. Nintendo is one of the few publishers to sell a 50 dollars Gamecube remastered game where the only change lies in the texture work.

There has been some gameplay changes too. Graphical changes consist of resolution, textures and some other minor improvements.

That's still minor and REALLY light considering it's a standalone release. As a matter of comparison, Ocarina of Time 3D or Majora's Mask 3D were FULLY remade with high quality assets, with gameplay improvements and it was sold for cheaper.

Of course. But you wrongly stated that
the only change lies in the texture work
There are other changes and these are more meaningful than the texture work, obviously.

If the full price for such a remaster is reasonable is debatable.

Maturity, bitches.
I could see a LOZ HD collection down the line in 2018 or 2019 with OTT MM TWW and TP but with BOTW in the next 3-12 months it doesn't make sense now.

You think they'd go from releasing four games separately at full price to bundling them all together (plus cleaning up all of the textures of the 3DS versions)?

As for TPHD - the texture work is great (though there are a few spots they forgot to retexture such as a certain bed…) and they did clean up some of the models in subtle ways, but it's not quite as impactful as the WWHD release simply because of the lighting changes aren't as apparent. Also the camera can be a bit funny, no idea if it was like that in the GCN version. Overall though, it does the job. I got it with a CD+Amiibo for a good price so I'm not going to complain, plus I like the core game.

Considering how the main complain about Xenoblade X is that it's not Xenoblade enough, I think they already did that.

What exactly do Monolith Soft games have in common with Bethesda games apart from the superficial open-world tag? What a stupid post.

Anyway the most likely to happen is a sequel to X but with a RPG setup, not Open World.
Anything but Xenoblade would seem weird especially as Nintendo is trying advertise the IP (3ds remake, Shulk in Smash Bros, the way X was teased in the N Direct and so on).
Both game sharing almost the same title despite the differences is the last hit.

The "As ambitious as XenobladeX" doesn't mean it'll be the same or also open world.
It just means it's suppose to impress as much, whichever type of game it is.

But according to the dozens of interview with Takahashi, it's going to be a more classic RPG, closer to the first one for the gameplay/story balance.
The relation to X should be obvious but not certain yet, so we'll see.

Oh it was something Emily mentioned she heard a while back. Saying they could be added on later. I guess we'll just have to wait and see the final product, but I do hope it does have a built in mic at least.

No they didn't. TP HD was a huge disappointment, they touched the textures but didn't bothered adding dynamic shadows and lighting. It was worthless.

Welcome to hyperbole city. -.-

So? Does BotW stop the 5 remakes?

Do I really need to explain that a many-years-out Zelda (botw) did not stop WWHD and TPHD from releasing but a newly shown 3D Mario which will not take as long to release (probably out next year already) will very much kill any chance of Sunshine HD being there at launch?

I mean, it's not like Nintendo was about to charge more than the normal max MSRP for a 3DS game, regardless of how big a game it was.

It would be such a waste of resources to remake sunshine imo. I would rather have both galaxy games in hd. But I know it has some fans it's just incomprehensible to me.

WWHD is actually worse as it's framerate is pretty bad. Yah yah, the new lighting dazzles (not for all) but the frame rate suffered.

Playing both remasters back to back, TPHD was better for the overall much more consistent frame-rate.
