Can I just plug it into a WiiMote and play it wirelessly?

Doubt it, the mini supports the Wii classic controller, no mention of the Wii-mote being supported as well. I don't think the Mini supports any wireless connectivity.

This should work

What about the power cable lol? My TV and power outlet are in the same spot. A long HDMI cord does me little good if I still need the thing to be plugged in.

Are we positive we can't charge this thing yet? I swore I read that it had a built in rechargeable battery. That said I got more than one electrical socket in my home. Just seems cheaper than spending $10 a pop on controller extension cables.

Long ass USB isn't out of the question either, at least they aren't exclusive to one device too.

A rechargeable battery for something that still needs to connect to your TV seems very, very useless.

Buying it for my kid for his playroom, the short controller will luckily not matter too much but it's still bizarre.

At least it's not the Japanese Famicom Mini thing...that's just embarrassing.

Haha, that's dissapointing. I've bought the controller for virtual console and PC (since it plugs into a Wii mote) use only so the length of the cord does not matter in my case.

Surely Nintendo has a better reason for the shorter cable other than cost cutting, right?
Maybe this product had the Japanese/NYC market in mind since those people live in 100sq/ft apartments and thus don't need a 9 foot cord.

Why wouldn't they use simple wireless controllers? Honest question.

$$$$$$$$$

I guess they wanted to make sure they could market this at the price of a regular retail game so it would sell like crazy. And I'm assuming making controllers wireless would add to the cost when they're probably already not making much of a profit on these.

I just don't understand how they didn't see the backlash coming for the cord length. Nobody is going to be happy about that. They practically ruin the appeal of the console with that one oversight. Business as usual for Nintendo.

Unless they got the rights for those third party games super cheap, I can't imagine them making big money on each unit sold. I think they're just banking on selling a ton of these things which they will at the price. But there are going to be a lot of unhappy people when they go to set it up.

Considering that you need to push the Reset button on the console in order to use save states or change games, I can't imagine using a longer controller instead of a longer HDMI cable. If I gotta have some kinda cable going across the room, it's gonna be one that makes it easier to use the new features.

Of course, none of this would be an issue if they had just put a Home button on the controller...

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
This thing was clearly made to plug into a PC monitor and place on your computer desk.

Has anyone cracked this thing open? I must know what it looks like inside. i'm excited for the hacking/modding community on this thing.

It is pretty obvious Nintendo is using Nunchuck and Classic Controller parts for the controller, thus the cable length being so short. I'm sure the NES Mini itself is basically a Wii.

Something kinda neat I just discovered and haven't seen mentioned, as I have ours sitting here running in my office: when left alone for a bit, the unit kicks into a Play Choice 10-style "attract" mode, where it runs through the games, shows their title screen briefly, then shows off a bit of gameplay. During this, at times, it'll also change the display settings, to show those off too.

Hearing in playing behind me, I'm transported back to the days of arcades. *heh*
