This sounds surprisingly great. In for £250 bundle + a pro controller. Hopefully someone will put together a nice bundle.

Guessing the pack in game will be mario kart or something like that.

Walruses, camels, bears, rabbits, tigers and badgers.
So you can walk into a game store this coming March and buy a Switch + Breath of the Wild for cheaper than a WiiU + Breath of the Wild.

lol

Sounds cheap, I think it could be dearer and still sell well enough for the first year but they could go this low to make sure. That would probably mean getting a good deal from Nvidia though.

LOL when you put it that way...

It's hilarious but it also has a chance of happening, Kimishima himself lends some viability to it:

“It’s true there is a certain expectation for the prices of Nintendo consoles,” Kimishima agreed. “Our developers put a lot into them, but we can not sell at a loss. The final price is determined by balancing these two conflicting ideas. I don’t believe it’s as simple as ‘because this is a new platform, we can make it more expensive.'”

If speculation at $249/$300 stateside is true, good luck.

As long as the basic model isn't gimped, $249 is a fine price...if it included a game, even if just a goofy pack in game like Wii and Wii U had with Wii Sports and Nintendo Land.

$300 won't sell. The general public will just buy a ps4/Xbox at that price.

Hmm so with the things I'd fork out for including Pro controller and more games, we're probably talking about £300 - £350. Sounds ok to me.

Well, they'll probably dramatically cut the Wii U price at that point to clear out the stock. But yeah, the Wii U has always been wildly overpriced.

Could they go with a selection of downloadable games for the premium? like, choose one to download among this list, like they did with the mario kart promo?

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
The premium system is more expensive, and likely 80 percent of that increase comes from the cost of the game, they would still be making a lot of money on the game. If it's just some extra storage space, we all know that doesn't amount to much in actual cost. It would only be unusual if all the units had it regardless.

All im saying expect the pack-in game to be a title we havent seen so far and not one of the established games/IPs or WiiU remasters..

So the £250 version will have how much internal storage? 64GB? Plus an extra £40 for a proper controller....$290.

You can get PS4 1TB + CoD for £266.

But man I really want to play Zelda. I hope that is the pack in game.

So this is likely scenario then

£200
Switch with 64GB Internal Memory

£250
Switch with 128GB Internal Memory

Pack in New IP
Uses all Switch Gimmicks
- 2 Player Local Multiplayer using Detachable controllers
- Local Multiplayer between multiple Switch devices
- Optional touchscreen control scheme
- Optional Pointer control scheme
- Optional Gyro control scheme

I'm hoping for $300 AU for whatever the basic model is. If I could get away with a Switch and Zelda for under $400 I'd be happy.

She's easily one of the most trustworthy news sources in game journalism, so I don't doubt Laura's on the money here.

Which is great news! Puts it below the WiiU and close enough the the 3DS to be make sense as a hybrid, and will hopefully be competitive with the PS4 Slim and XO S as long as the bundles are good.

I'm still not buying one at launch though. Until I'm absolutely certain Nintendo have got their suit together with 3rd parties and genre diversification in the game output I'm not handing over any cash outside of fire sale prices.

I got the WiiU for just around £120 and I still felt ripped off due to its anaemic library.

Sounds about right. Sign me up for a tree-hundo version.

I still think Mario Sports Superstars Switch is the game. Be a shame to let it just be a 3DS-only game when it could have so many different ways to utilize the online, local, and portable local multiplayer out the box. Don't really see them doing a Switch version just to release to retail on it's own, though.

Awesome, I have budgeted around £425 with the device being £300 in my head, so if I can get the best version for £250 I'll have £175 for additional games and a Pro Controller.

Fingers crossed!

Then they would need to shell out money to the company, for a likely far less popular title. For Nintendo, the cost of updating and bundling one of their own titles is likely far less than paying a dev a fee for every console sold, which I believe is standard practice.

It would be a gesture for third parties, not a decision based on money.

Maybe the more expensive with more internal memory will have Skyrim or another 3rd party hardcore game.

If Nintendo decides to pack in a mini game collection to show off the gimmick then it will be in both SKUS

That game is too expensive to bundle

Which is precisely why you bundle it (or Mario). Not only do you do a bundle, but you also make it a Zelda themed Switch console. Many feel that Zelda will be one of the GotY candidates next year. Make the package as attractive as possible. So, right away they can launch with an ad campaign focusing on how one of the best games of the year is bundled with the Switch. This would almost certain ensure that the Switch doesn't get off to the same slow start as the Wii U.

That's roughly $249/$299 for the US. Put's right in between where the 3DS originally launched at and the WiiU launch prices. That's going to be a tough sell especially if it doesn't have the 3rd party games/apps support the other two systems have.

I'm still on the boat that puts these as educated guesses and not actual facts or inside sources. Direct conversion prices are a dream for one thing. A strong Yen, tanking GBP make this an impractical, nay - impossible feat.

Both our sources have told us that additional Switch Pro Controllers are expected to sell at launch for £39.99 at GAME.

Try and find the median price point for any controller in the U.K. for either Xbox or PS4 - £39.99. Why would they go outside this for a guess?

Mario Sports Superstars is only a 3DS title and it's not a shame it's only for 3DS. That game reuses assets from previous Mario Sports games that were made for 3DS. It would take a lot of work to make a Switch version, it would basically be like making a entirely new game. And a port would look like a cheap HD 3DS game which isn't a good showing for a Switch game. I do think we will get a Mario Sports Game sometime in the Switches life but it would be nothing to do with the 3DS game and happen later down the road.

I would expect they pack in a game like Mario Kart 8 that really pushes sales and has already gotten its revenue by far. I mean they already packed 3DS MK7 and WiiU with MK8.

It's a great price tho. I guess the bigger storage will be 64GB. Can't believe I'm considering buying a Nintendo console after Wii U.

It should be clear that Breath of the Wild releasing on the Wii U is nothing more than a mere obligation at this point. They promised to release the new Zelda on the Wii U and they keep that promise, it's as simple as that. And I'm happy that they are staying true to their words in this regard.

Will only buy if it's $49, comes with Mario Galaxy 3 and a cure for my impending baldness.

Will probably get the expensive SKU; I bought the Wii U Basic Pack and I regret not going with Premium.

And people who wants a PS4 will continue to buy a PS4...i dont get this point. That like telling a person who wants a iPhone that your Android phone costs the same but has a way higher resolution screen...cool i guess.

Desperately?

Oops - meant separate lol.

What you have to understand is that while third party support would be wonderful, there just aren't a lot of third party games that fit with the Nintendo demographic enough to help sell the system. Nintendo did so poorly with the U they can't afford to just bundle in some game many might not care for, they need to bundle in something that everyone will want if they do it at all.

Skyrim? Tomb Raider? Battlefield? None of them have anywhere near the universal appeal, and even if they did, they would just be ports of games people are playing right now. Unless it's some kind of amazing new third party exclusive, I doubt Nintendo would ever bother, and come to think of it, i'm having trouble recalling the last time they bundled a third party title with any of their platforms that wasn't an exclusive.

uhm...
honestly, I would have expected a "premium" sku at 250 EUR with baseline going for 229 (or even 200)...
Instead we get..
299 pound for premium sku..
which if they do a 1 pound : 1 eur conversion, is 300 eur for premium sku (without any game, without secondary controller) but i fear they might do a 1 pound : 1.20 eur conversion..

we'll see..
I want it for sure as a collector, but I cannot justify switch at more than 300 WITHOUT A SINGLE GAME..
comparatively speaking, I was able to snatch ps4 with killzone shadowfall, secondary controller and movement bar for 390 at launch...
paying 300eur (or more if they don't do a 1:1 conversion) for a nintendo console without secondary controller, without any game bundled and with spec that might still NOT be on bar with the current gen definitely irks me the wrong way....

I'm normally all about skepticism, but Laura Kate Dale and Emily Rogers have been so crazy on point with the Switch info that they really can't be guessing.

Actually, Laura Dale confirmed earlier that we are looking at 32 GB internal storage for the Switch, so that is likely the base unit. Also, I doubt the pack in game will be using all Switch features as a rule, as it is, after all, an optional game.

Mario Kart 8+ is the obvious choice for a pack in! I'd be okay with that. It's unlikely to be something more complex.

It's 200 pounds basic sku and 250 pounds pro sku with game included.
This probably means 250€ and 300€ tho, which I actually find it a good price.

What are you talking about? The rumor here is a £249.99 premium SKU with a game included, not a £300 SKU with no game.
