Magic: the Gathering |OT9| Kaladesh - Cruisin' Down the Street in my 6/4

I have been watching The Leftovers recently.

If you had to assign a Magic color to the Guilty Remnant, what would it be?

I think they might be the best example of a colorless character/organization, along with the Eldrazi.

it only becomes impactful when playing on a more competitive level and in particular with cards that let people look at your hand.

The benefit I tend to think of (because the hidden-information one is real, but incredibly narrow) is that all matched basics make it easier for you to keep track of what mana you have available, since you can immediately see that all the forests (or whatever) are the same thing.

Next judge promo: Imperial Seal!

I dunno. It's like, yeah, it's a Judge version of a ridiculously expensive card but it's also a comically overpriced card and how many people will actually want to buy these things? It's not exactly FoW or Mana Drain. It's basically an EDH card. So I guess I've answered who will actually want to buy these things.

Hmm, might have to give my local L2 and L3 judges a call sometime soon... that's a delicious looking promo. Speaking of which, P3K cards shouldn't even be that expensive. There is absolutely no reason for a Time Warp to cost $450.

$450, people.

Great card, but Demonic Tutor is almost as good and much much cheaper.

Almost as good? Demonic Tutor is almost always a better card because one generic more for getting the card into your hand now instead of next time you'd draw a card (assuming an opponent doesn't mess with your library) is huge. Additionally, the card that Imperial Seal was copied from, Vampiric Tutor, is outright strictly better due to having been printed in a set where instants existed. And yes, both are much much cheaper as well.

I did not realize it didn't put it into your hand. Probably because it costs a million dollars and I've never played with it. Yes, Demonic is better in most cases.

P3K is pretty much just a set for people with cash to burn. Like, Zodiac Dragon is $200+ and even in EDH it's unplayable.

Ashodin, I think you might enjoy this MtG name generator. Found it on reddit. Some the names follow Magic's naming conventions pretty darn well. Here's some demons:

El'dul, Vaultslayer Persecutor
Nifon, Skeletal Ravager
Seiz'lac, Tombblade Harvester
Yegnalir, Outlandish Archdemon
Sharsinniuc, Blazebane Demon

I think you end up going for Amalgam. It's just going to keep breaking.

My opponent got 9 power on the board by turns 2-3 both games. Too much! He thinks Gravetroll would be a good ban without wrecking the deck. I think Prize Amalgam was worse.

If you nuke Amalgam, then they have to go without the thing that actually made Dredge so strong. Because Amalgam is a stupid, stupid card.

I know Wizards has said "the ban list will be exactly as small as it can", but I would totally be fine if they added all Dredge >=4 cards to the list. All those cards turn Cathartic Reunion into "Discard 2, see up to 18 cards+ Get All the power on table", which is literally stupid.

I'm sure this was asked before but what stops wizard from printing snow duals in some supplemental draft set?

They could make the next conspiracy be under ice or something with Marchesa as Elsa and this time Jeskai.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't snow Duals impossible because they're functionally the same as regular duals? I'm assuming you mean ABUR Duals but with snow type.

I'd settle for Troll and Conflagrate. The inevitability provided by Conflagrate is the real issue for decks that can deal with creatures. Maybe Narcomeba and Troll would be fine.

As an infect player, I'll be honest and say they should probably go ahead and ban Become Immense at the same time. Let's slow the format down a little and see how things shake out.

I don't think "eliminate Dredge as a deck" is a good goal at all. You want to hurt it enough that it wins slower and/or less often, not eliminate the archetype.

I'd go further and say that if anything should be banned first then it's Become Immense. Infect scares me more than Dredge at the moment, in part because you can at least somewhat hate out Dredge and it isn't as consistent at being lightning fast.

Pump spells are one of the most terrible card types in Magic.

Become Immense is proof that even the stupidest type of card can be broken if pushed too far.

I don't think re-banning Troll would eliminate the deck since it can just add Thug as a less effective replacement. I don't think a ban of Conflagrate would either. It just puts the deck all in on being able to swing through for lethal. Troll and Imp might. Amalgam alone might. Narcomeba might. Hell, I don't know.

I'd go further and say that if anything should be banned first then it's Become Immense. Infect scares me more than Dredge at the moment, in part because you can at least somewhat hate out Dredge and it isn't as consistent at being lightning fast.

Decks like Affinity and Infect have very fast kills but they're both more interactive than Dredge currently is. There are a lot more main deck ways to reasonably interact with Infect than there are with Dredge. Yes, Blossoming Defense made this tougher but you can still attack the deck with removal or use creatures to gum up some of their most explosive Glistener Elf hands. Most decks don't really interact with Dredge game one since you're basically hoping they whiff terribly when dredging, mulligan several times, or keep a sketch hand. Dredge match-ups currently are pretty much the epitome of one of the major complaints about the format since the match boils down to "Did you get your sideboard card/graveyard hate in your starting hand?" Even worse, the deck is so fast at getting bodies on the board that even if you have one of the hate options available in hand, a number of them can still be too slow to actually turn the tide in your favor, especially if you have to mulligan down to find it or happen to be on the draw rather than the play.

Again, as an Infect player I think Become Immense probably needs a ban unless they decide to go another route (say Elf or Inkmoth Nexus or they print a card in Aether Revolt that removes counters from players which would interact with Infect and Energy counters) but Dredge is the unhealthier of the two for the overall format as it stands.
