Bow is only weapon I used in game (except in cases where game makes you use other weapons) but still I wouldn't put it above any Uncharted game. But for me they are both do collectibles really bad :D

If u dont mind me asking, when was the last time u played the og uc games?

Looks like Tyranny is breaking 100k Steam copies according to Steamspy.

Glad that the sale numbers are growing steadily, would be a massive shame if Obsidian's first game after Pillars of Eternity that doesn't have massive media hype were a commercial flop.

It would be interesting to know how many copies sold that is needed for that game to be considered a success for Paradox/Obsidian.

I am playing Uncharted 2 on PS4 now (Train level). :D

Hah I was still in unnamed war-torn asian country when I last stopped. I should pick it up from there. I enjoy the shooty banging of the UC games but all in all there's really not much to be done in it aside from walking for a minute to spend 15 minutes shooting a dozen or so baddies.

RotTR is not much better. Even when you get to explore levels you are bored because they did mediocre collectibles at best.

What's the best game review site? Metacritic is alright, but seems like they skew points towards frequent/pro reviewers or something?

I don't think there is a good one. By the nature of how all of these are aggregating multiple score systems, it never works well. With several caveats and rules to think of, I still think Steam's reviews work out when going in depth with it and only for titles with a good enough sample size. It fails for anything that is super niche with large fandoms - eg several anime / vn type things, where people are happier to have the product than care about issues so bias towards positive. Similarly anything regarding gender or any tiniest possible "SJW" connection gets biased negative. You also need to be aware of brigading that occurs or where minor issues or over extrapolated by a subset.

Basically, actually sift through for detailed reviews from multiple outlets than rely on aggregation.

I was at IndieCade Europe for the second day.

There was a nice talk by Audrey Leprince (Furi) about the choices made by the studio after each of their previous releases. Each of the game the studio has made so far has received positive reviews and praises, but managed just enough to break even. It turns out they fled from mobile because they did not want to (and could not) do freemium, which is the most successful business model on mobile these days. With Furi, they accepted to be featured by Sony on PS+, so that the game would be free for a month for PS4 owners at the same time of the release. It is a bold compromise (great visibility but no revenue) which might have hindered the sales on PS4 and PC. They will release the game on Xbox One in 15 days, and they will discount the game on Steam (as expected). She talked about 30,000 units sold on Steam so far. She also talked briefly about the next game, which should be i) a love story, ii) with the end of the story shown as soon as the game starts.

There was also an amazing talk by Michel Ancel (Rayman, Beyond Good & Evil, UbiArt), who is incredibly sympathetic and humble. What I did not know about Beyond Good & Evil 2 is that he deliberately put the project on hold because the consoles in 2008 were not powerful enough for his ambitions for the game. Crossing my finders to see the project go live with our current hardware, or maybe the next-gen of consoles.

I have also been able to try the Oculus on two games: 1) flying as a bird in a Minecraft-like environement, with Fugl, which gives good sensations of speed, and 2) "escaping a room" in I Expect You To Die, which was all the more impressive that there were some hardware for the hands which could recognize the movements of the hands in space, movements of the thumb, index finger, and other fingers as a group. Given that the game also recognizes the position and orientation of the body in the room, it felt really magical.

Edit: I forgot to mention: Psychonauts VR is amazing. I could not try it but watched the demo by Anna Kipnis (DoubleFine) and wow.

I just wrapped up a run of Dead Rising Re-mastered, Capcom have really managed to put something really special together. I already feel like doing another run (I love the fact that your progression carries over to subsequent runs). That's the second Capcom game that has made it onto my GOTY list.

I would rate Opencritic higher than Metacritic myself, and it was made specifically to avoid the sorts of problems Metacritic has.

Had a blast replaying this one as well.

Did you try out the book-boosted mannequin?

So far I'm liking Rise much more than Uncharted 4, which I found boring in some sections.
I really like finding tombs, and even the crafting is not so bad if you open all boxes you find, since often there are resources inside, so you don't need to waste time hunting animals etc.
When you power-up Lara, Survival becomes a joke, expecially if there are bottles around: those molotov are insane.

Crystal Dynamic really improved the formula with rise, I consider the first TR (reboot) very boring with an awful plot and story-telling, while Rise keeps your interest high enough even if the plot is totally not original.

Yeah, I think Rise is a much better game than Uncharted 4 too. U4 had such horrible pacing and combat always felt so spongy. But fwiw it had some stunning scenaries.

Rice of Toom Braider is better than uc4 by default, by the simple virtue of the bow and arrows

Uuummm UC4 is going to be GAF's GOTY, best get yourselves together.

I didn't use book until the very end, I completely underestimated their value. I haven't tried the book and mannequin combo, I went for Small Chainsaws (the ones that Adam drops) with durability boosts, which was insanely effective.

Proceeded in Rise, I think I have all the tools now so no tomb can't be reached.
Very nice game, even if as I wrote the plot is nothing original.

Also for Ban Puncher:

Don't know, LP1 is most boring and tedious game that i play. Hope that 2-3 is a little better.
PS - but yeah, dat DX10 fur shader!
PPS - also next steam sale starting in 23 november as it seems, yay!
Completely agree. I tried to play it some years ago on PS3 but it wasn't fun at all. Had to stop at the end of the first mission. This time I just powered through and it really is not perfect at all but it kinda clicked.
So i recently bought a new computer and decided to try out steam for pretty much the first time in my life and i'm pretty damned impressed with everything. I've only bought planet coaster so far but everything installed like a charm. I'm playing on a 4k 65" tv and i love how i was able to scale the interface so it was still readable even when playing on max resolution.
Is that something that will always work even if i were to play older games?
Congrats on your new PC. And no, it depends on a game-by-game basis whether the developers add the option to scale the UI.
The only problem is the steam overlay - the interface isn't scaling and i have no idea to make it readable without changing the resolution on everything else as well.
Is it fixable? I hope this is the correct thread to ask these things in.
Sadly there is no solution for that problem at the moment. Maybe Valve will tackle that issue in the future.
Also the trophys i'm getting aren't popping up on screen. Not really a big issue but coming from ps4 getting those trophies pop feels a lot more rewarding than it should, really :)
That's weird. Achievements do pop up unless you disable the Steam Overlay. Hm.

I've been playing a bunch of Steam games this weekend. Crysis 2 is a surprisingly fun time, pretty linear but the setpieces are cool. It has a Cloverfield kind of vibe which I like a lot.

I've also been booting into Linux to play a bunch of indies I've been saving up. I love to see Linux gaming happen, but I do have one complaint - too many games have broken v-sync. Basically every Unity game, Xcom: EU, and a few others I noticed. The nVidia drivers don't have any way to force v-sync or cap the frame rate either. It's enough to probably keep me away from adopting Linux as my platform for indies, which sucks.

Try Big Picture Mode, it scales properly and the notifications are much larger. Click the controller in the top right corner of Steam's window.

Wait what? Aren't developers getting paid for the games they put on PS+?

I believe they get paid, but not the same amount as if those were "real" sales, of course. The thing is that with Furi, people complained that it was "free" on a different platform and refused to buy it because of that.

Lashley

Why does he wear the mask!?
Since when did the steam fps counter appear in non-steam games? Not complaining but it never used to

Replaying the far superior TR2013 for the third or fourth time.

Lara Craft in the first half-hour is basically me after doing a six-hour closing shift. She falls off a ledge at one point (well, at many points), causing her to slide down a hill and fucking somersault comically. Maybe she's channeling Blaze from Streets of Rage or something. Once you to get the first camp, she starts hearing the mentoring narration of Sean Connery from Highlander. And that's before she's licked any moss from the surrounding trees.
