Why are you lumping Chinese teams together? How can you not be a fan of "them"? The Chinese teams are as diverse as the western ones.

Very happy for AF.

Yeah, sucks for the teams affected but considering the circumstances, I think LFY and IGV put in some good performances. Newbee and LGD don't have that excuse, though LGD didn't have much time to prep I guess.

What happened with the Chinese teams? Will the next patch need to include a 78% dmg increase if your client is in chinese so that the game won't lose all its playerbase?

yeah eg's probably taking this major
grats artour

I see no reason to make that assumption given they have to go through OG.

Though I will say this: if EG *does* win, there will be no team that will have had to endure a tougher schedule to win it. They will be objectively the best team, whether things have gone smoothly to date or not. Which in and of itself is a pretty scary prospect, because we all know they can be better.

Alas, they're a long way from that conversation and I see them as the clear underdogs against OG who continue to make it happen. OG is the best team left until proven otherwise.

What happened with the Chinese teams?

they had to have a bunch of stand-ins because of visa issues.

Yeah I think it's this. Only one that really under-performed was Newbee IMO.

EHOME hadn't really done anything and were invited directly for some reason. Should have made them go through qualis.

LGD flew in last minute, LGD.FY and IG.V both had visa issues last minute and used stand-ins.

That being said really glad for Ad Finem.

Going to be hard to root between AF or DC tomorrow. Kinda feels like a shame its only a BO3 and only a BO5 till the final.

Edit; actually just thinking about it, Valve should really reduce the number of invites to maybe top 4 at this major to the next and have more teams make a run, especially if they're going to be splitting qualifiers up.

It all feels very abbreviated, but it was worth trying this format just to know. I'd like them to return to double elimination, however. Unless the majority of players are opposed to it, of course.

I can't imagine VP, Wings, NP, etc etc not wanting another shot at it. Tomorrow, if EG gets beaten, I can't imagine that they'd reject the opportunity to have another crack at it through the lower bracket.

I don't claim to know Valve's finances, but since dropping one major, I would think that would have allowed more funding for the other two for more teams, more time, better stuff, etc etc.

Double elim makes it more likely the best teams end up in the finals. VP was just not coming together like they usually did in their games against EG. Seems silly they should be out because of that. The storyline is more interesting too if they had another shot against EG.

They made about 60 million last year from TI alone (after deducting 20 million for the TI prize pool, and the tickets for Seattle Center / Secret Shop pay for renting out Key Arena). Basically, that single TI funded the next five years of non-TI majors. (assuming it costs then one million per major in venue / etc after the revenue from tickets / Secret Shop).

They could basically double the prize pool without blinking an eye.

I don't claim to know Valve's finances,

Private company of a couple hundred people basically owns PC gaming and is the middleman of a vast digital marketplace participated in by millions. Nevermind the money they make off the events themselves.

These events are chump change for them, seriously. I believe Eric Johnson of Valve basically said as much in an interview about the first TI.
