Forza Horizon 3 PC Performance Thread

terrible

Upgraded from a 3570K to a 6700K to match my 1070 and performance is exactly the same. Still get dips to 45 going down tram street in the city in 1080p, and still have input lag w/ in-game 30 fps lock. Rather bummed.
That's very surprising and disappointing. I would have assumed at worst you'd still see a big boost to your minimum FPS.

btw I heard some of you got ShadowPlay working in Forza. May I ask how you did that?

Set shadowplay to desktop capture,Run the game then tab out of forza to the desktop, hit record, tab back to forza.

You won't see the record icon but it is recording.

Then edit the footage with windows photo viewer.

What CPU/GPU usage do you have in these spots? Does it spike to 100% or does it dip for no apparent reason?

Performance definitely improved in today's patch (1.0.28.2). I used to get 35-50fps, coming out of the Festival, 1080p - max settings. Now I'm getting 55-60fps. Also getting above 60, flirting with 75 70, out on the open road.

What RAM? Got the same setup, just with 3200mhz RAM and rarely dip below 60 FPS in tram area.

Performance is the same as it ever was. You go from 60-70 down to 45-50 and straight back to 60-70 driving around the city. This happens regardless of settings. Seems all on the CPU side. You can see the game can run at 60-70 but just takes a dive and shoots back up again, don't know if its DRM or something.

When you read of people with Skylake getting dips you know this game is unusually taxing on the CPU side. GPU side is fine.

This shouldn't be dropping on Ivy Bridge nor Sandy Bridge at normal ram speeds. 3200hmz DDR4 6700k overclocked and still getting the dip, come on.

Have any Gsync users experienced a reduce in performance/fps? Just seeing the issues with some other UWP games and Gsync (recore in particular).

he could drop the res/setting down and it wouldnt change anything. the game just doesnt scale

Sure he (and I) could... but we aren't. If we could only run the game at 2x framerate at XB1 graphical levels, then we'd likely see it you way. But if I don't have a 120hz screen to play on, then I'm not going to be fussed about it topping out at 60.

I guess he shouldn't have said that there's "nothing left to fix" without the explicit disclaimer that it refers to his own experience with it. He did kinda suggest that at the start of his post though, noting that it's running fine for him specifically. I'm in a similar situation now, and haven't had any glaring performance issues recently, and am no longer getting crashes. As far as I'm concerned, it's all good now.

Just tried the demo. I'd be totally cool with the 30fps cap if not for the goddamn input lag. So frustrating that I can't just cap the frame rate with RTSS. Even Nvidia Inspector doesn't work; if I set a global 30fps cap the in-game cap automatically locks to 30fps too (unlike Rise of the Tomb Raider which worked great with Nvidia 30fps).

Bummer.

It has been a while since I have checked this thread. What level of "fixed" are we at? Playable, still a buggy mess?

Each run is wildly different. If I'm lucky, I get 60-90fps without issues. Most of the time it's stuttering though, with insane load times on a 950 Pro.

Can scrape 60fps on a 1080/Titan XP ergo it's totally fixed, apparently.

I'm not claiming it's totally fixed to be fair... but seeing how I can't technically output higher than 60fps on any game regardless, I legitimately wouldn't experience any real difference if it got any more fixed. So it's "fixed" for me effectively.

what a terrible view

Eh? So long as I'm not attempting to silence anyone else that's having issues, I don't see why I should expected to have any other view. If it started running 120fps for you tomorrow, I wouldn't even be able to know without you telling me.

Not really related to FH3 but how about other games? What's the performance gain you've gotten? Still using 3570k and 1070 and thinking about upgrading to kaby lake later.

I feel it's worth repeating, but if the game crashes you have to restart your PC or enjoy non-existant FPS
Interesting. What were you getting before?
I'd drop in the 30-40's at the start of the race, but I think that was with shadowplay. However, I'd only get a few 58 dips at the pre-rainforest escape lineup cutscene vs ~50 FPS

EDIT: did some more messing around, I'm starting to think the city area isn't exactly optimized as I get near identical GPU usage %'s on high and medium dynamic settings. I put all the settings on low with a 60FPS cap and got this(and no dips below 60 in game):

Shader Cache on or off? Although in truth I was already experiencing longer load times after a while than when I first installed the game, even before I turned SC off. This is on an 850 Evo.

Are those last performance reports using the last 2GB update?

I just read someone on guru3d talking about perfect performance using the last patch....

Getting error 0x80073CF9 when trying to update the game. Anyone else? Not the first time something errors when trying to update, but usually i just have to manually stop and restart the download.

EDIT: Seems the game folder has shrunk down to around 1GB, exactly the same that happened to my Gears 4 install a few weeks ago. Looks like another huge reinstall is in order :/

When did that come out? Last patch from a few weeks' back seemed to worsen things for me - I never dipped in closed circuit races but now I drop into the low 50s when it's a full line-up of cars ahead of me (1080, i5-4690k).

We had a 2.3gb patch drop in the last day or two. Same old perf where you get these blips down to 45-50fps.

Also checked the cores, CPU 0 doing all the work in DX12 title, acting like a DX9 title but unchecking CPU0 doesn't solve the problem.

You can mitigate this with overclocking the very latest parts and ram but you still get drops, just less so, not as game breaking. Something is tying up the game operations.

Seems slightly better on my end from the couple hours I played earlier, I even bumped up a couple settings and stayed locked at 60, but I wasn't playing in demanding weather nor did I check out Surfer's, so more investigation is required.

Shader cache on. I tried with it off but it didn't change much in terms of framerate/stuttering.

No performance difference here whatsoever. Same exact fps drops in same exact problem spots I always test after new patch and questionable reports of performance increase.

Just checking in.

Is there still input lag when capped to 30fps or has that finally been patched?

If they can't get the engine to run at 60fps then at least solve the input lag issue when capped at 30 :/

Game is still crashing while in Surfers Paradise using Crimson ReLive 16.12.1 with my 7970 CF...

I think I'll try to get a refund, I bought the Ultimate Edition but couldn't play it for 3 months now...

I just play it at 30fps, dont think its ever going to be fully 60fps in all areas.

dunno, but my brain just seems happy enough playing it and enjoying it locked solid with no dips. 60fps would be nice, but drops are far worse and as the game is so much fun, ill just enjoy it at 30fps.

I know to many of you this means i am mentally ill

No, you're mentally sane. People who stomach fluctuating frame rates are the ill ones.

The issue in FH3 isn't the 30fps, it's the increased input lag when playing at 30fps. If we could cap frame rate using RTSS or Nvidia Inspector (without the in-game cap being turned on) it'd be an entirely different situation.

Can anyone using a wheel, specifically the G920 do me a favour.

Check the replay after a race and see if the wheel is moving in cockpit view. Mine is static inside the cockpit even though I just raced with the wheel. Kinda kills the replay view...

Thanks.

no??? Still running 376.09 and I streamed the game and everything

I got an error when trying to boot the game saying I needed to update my drivers. I did update them and so far no black screen bug but we'll see if that holds up.

Performance is worse than it was prior to updating.

No performance changes on the new drivers and the new patch. Getting 50fps drops in Blizzard Mountain with everything maxed but lowering shadows and dynamic object quality to high nets me very consistent 60fps now. 1440p, i7 4790K, GTX 1080.

This game is so inconsistent.. when I first started playing after this update, I'd swear it was smoother and had fewer framedrops and less stuttering than before.. but as I played more.. each loop through Surfer's paradise got worse w/ lower drops in performance.

I'm pretty sure they'll never be able to fix the issues w/ streaming that this game has..

After a while, even the cars start jerking around as you pass them.. and I'm running the game off of a NVMe SSD..

I have literally tried to install blizzard mountain 7 times now. Every fucking time error 0x80070003, I am super fucking pissed. How is Microsoft this fucking incompetent at running a store?

Yeah but when we run the game on the GPUs that come out in 5+ years it's going to be great!

How do I install Blizzard Mountain?

My game was last updated today, I have purchased the DLC, but the game keeps asking me to install it.

.. NVM, apparently I have to hunt it down in the store and install it that way. Fingers crossed.

If you're on PC make sure to have the latest gpu drivers and update windows, then download the game. Also try and download it without pausing it too many times, the store is very fragile and it usually gives me errors when I pause downloads.

Windows Store is a disgrace. It simply will not download the latest update. Sticks on 1.94mb....I've tried opening/closoing and pausing/resuming.
