Sega/Deep Silver publishing Valkyria Revolution in Q2 2017 on PS4/XB1/Vita

Xbox One & Vita...I mean wouldn't the Wii U even make more sense????

Well, to be fair, it'd be a waste to not localize an existing Vita version whatsoever, along with it being good for PR (Trust me, Vita fans are vicious when a game with a Vita version has its Vita version go AWOL in the west). But Xbone before PC feels baffling as hell to me after how well the first game did on PC.

I'll be blunt, I'll still buy this on PS4, but unfortunately whenever the late port comes out, if it comes out, I'm going to have to perpetuate the stereotype that PC gamers only wait for a Steam Sale. Sorry, but no Double-Dips without discounts. Sega wants me to fork out full price for a PC version, they produce a PC version on launch-day. Same rules everyone else abides by. Why? Because frankly I'm at a point where I've had enough of being fleeced by certain publishers who pull a surprise PC version out of their arse that was likely done months in advance, with a premium pricetag.

Why rush to release the game on PC when you are more or less forced to sell at 20 bucks (or less) to encounter success, while the game will probably sell for double or triple this price on consoles ?

PC is probably seen as a good way to make some more money later, but they already know that it is no use releasing at full price on it.

This is blatantly untrue.

I think it has been mentioned several times already but I guess SEGA just wants people to double (triple) dip down the line.

Eh, if the game releases same day on PC, it usually sells quite well. Of course you can't expect everyone to pay 60 bucks 6 months after release on other platforms, people feels shafted, in the same way I don't believe XCOM2 did any good numbers on consoles just because it came out later there for full price.

Not a great example since the games don't appeal to a large part of the demographic, supported both anecdotally and the first game did terribly on consoles. I do agree with your premise however.

Sometimes I see a response like this, and I honestly don't know how to treat it.

Do I start by explaining how revenue works? Start with the base assertion isn't correct? Or the percentage breakdown between physical and digital distribution?

Ultimately, if the response is so far outside the base, is there a point in even addressing this at all?

Just laugh, make fun of the post and move on.

I'm not sure I'm even interested in this, the footage I've seen has been far from impressive, but that's definitely some bizarre platform choices. PS4/PC on day one would've made far more sense, plus the Vita version digitally because it already exists and there's a JRPG fanbase on there. If Square Enix can't even make the minimum physical units threshold on Xbone with a Final Fantasy spinoff packaged with a FFXV demo, a Valkyria spinoff is going to sell peanuts.

And honestly I'll be very nervous if a PC version comes out within the first year unless it's announced before the console release.

From most of my data, PC port quality generally operates on a reverse-Bell Curve, with the high-points being Launch Day/Week/Month (Max Payne 3, Tales Of) and Years Later (GTAV, Valkyria Chronicles) - With a valley of crap ports between the two that's occupied by the likes of Koei Tecmo ports, Grand Theft Auto 4, and Type-0 HD. Of course there's a few (in)famous exceptions to this on all ends of the spectrum, but it generally holds true.

I'm worried that a PC port that's not within launch window but before nostalgia or such sets in will be something shat-out, and if it's a year or more later that by then it'll be kneecapped by people not being interested in it anymore due to potentially (and likely, considering demo impressions so far) negative impressions from console players warding people off.

Y'know, I did entertain the idea that Sega is banking precisely on the IP having no history on the Xbox as some sort of hedge against fans on PlayStation not being quite so enthusiastic about the change in direction.

But honestly I know a far more safer and proven way to hedge such a bet that rhymes with 900k.

I agree, they should buy SNK.

After reading this i wouldn't get my hopes high for a PC release.

Seems to be a lot of people in this thread with no idea this plays nothing like, and is nowhere near the quality I might add, of Valkyria Chronicles.

It's a Valkyria game in name only.

Its really frustrating to have to wait for PC versions in a world where PC ports have proven to do really well regardless of genre. Make a good port and it will do well. But noooo lets wait.

Why is that? According to their Summary of Growth Strategies report it seems like they're putting more of a focus on PC market when it comes to packaged game software.

Read between the lines.

The focus there is on their PC-exclusive developers (Relic, Creative Assembly, Sports Interactive, Those Endless Legend Guys) making PC exclusives and such. Not expanding their Japanese titles into a space that's looking to buy.

Yeah and no one is listening either. Hopefully they release a demo here but i doubt they will since it's not in their best interest.

Yeah, I'm not getting that impression at all from the report.

They talk about expanding their PC game business in general while that will mostly be focusing on their PC exclusive games I get the impression that they see the PC market in general as a growth market and the potential of that market for all of their packaged software games.

I am cautiously optimistic.

The battle demo had some strategic elements to it to the point I wouldn't quite call it an action game. I probably used more skills than anything else. The issue with that is stopping time and resuming gameplay every 5 seconds gets tiring.

I thought I would hate the battle system, so it's a plus. Now it depends on the story, which frankly, I'm worried. The little tidbits I got from the demo didn't show too much confidence or good development in it, but there's a chance we could all be wrong.

*Japanese dev announces Xbox version*

"Man idk. I'm worried about (Japanese company). How are they gonna make back that budget? Idk if this is a good idea."

I swear, every time. lol

Never fails. Its getting ridiculous. It's like these anti-fans have this on a sticky note pad and just copy and paste it.

I'm glad it's coming to the west at all, much less Vita and Xbox One.

And for those who say the game sucks: I'll be the judge of that, thank you. I listened to people go on about how awful Valkyria Chronicles 2 supposedly was but I enjoyed that quite a bit. Let us be excited.

And Sega/Deep Silver if you are reading this, give us a physical Vita cart. Do a pre-order only thing like NIS does for a lot of their games. Vita owners are hungry for carts!

Dual Knockers (lol) just posted their translation of the Famitsu page spread.

A new demo is coming to Japan this month. It contains the whole Prologue of the game. If you complete it you can carry your save to the final release and you get a bonus item.

They also noted the reveal of the history archives, where you can read up on the comrades that fight with you during battle (like Chronicles) and a battle encyclopedia (like Chronicles).

Narration is done history book style instead of from a journalist's memoir like Chronicles was.

Great, looking forward to giving it a shot on XB1. I can play though the re-release of the original, or 2 on the Sony Platforms.

But if given the choice, I always seem to prefer the XB1. Just love it's share features, the big pieces of achievement art (if the pubs/devs pull it off), and the system so much more. Also find it easier to manage space, even though I have boatloads of BC games on it...

Good to see this will see the west on Vita as well. I was happy to hear the Vita mentioned a few times on stage during PSXperience, too. Memory stays expensive on the platform for some reason, and I'll have Summon Night to play on it, but glad to see it make it out there.

I know this is a Valkyria basically in nothing but name, but I've not at all be turned off by the gameplay I've seen like many here. I'm interested enough to see how it develops, and quite willing to give it a chance to be something different. Always happy to see Sega publish something on consoles that's not a Sonic game... not that I mind those either.

I know it's been touched on already - but I really wish this myth would fucking die already.

The top sellers on Steam are frequently very highly rated more expensive titles. Games like Football Manager 2017, Civ 6 and Planet Coaster have been constantly up there recently without any major sale to speak of.

Yes, the sales will then have a massive spike when they hit -50℅ in a Steam sale, but if PC players feel like they are being respected by publishers and they get a well timed release there are normally plenty who are more than happy to buy it at full price or close to it.

This is without going into how PC games are often cheaper for publishers, and thus their revenues slightly higher.

A new Valkyria? Awesome!
Vita and PS4? Great news.
No more turn based combat? Hype deflating.

Well, I will wait for reviews, not expecting much.

Played through the remaster of Valkyria Chronicles on my PS4 two months ago. Still a great game.

I'm so torn.

Part of me wants to support the release because it's Valkyria and shows demand for the series.

Part of me doesn't want to support the release because it's not Valkyria Chronicles and it's exactly how I don't want the series to continue on.

lol @ everyone salty its being released on vita :)

Vita already has a lot of games announced for 2017. Stay salty about a "dead" platform.

Nice. Will get xbox one version to support as well. Based Sega. Ps4 and xbox physical will be bought for sure.

...yeah I'm probably going to double dip too. Xbox version was unexpected but it's my main platform. Either way I'm excited

Edit: I won't be getting the vita version but I'm glad it's getting a vita release too. Such a great handheld

i wonder what the sales ratio between xbox and ps4 will be

More heavily skewed than Type 0 and XV.
