Oculus CEO steps down to head PC group. Palmer Luckey's new role to be revealed soon.

These are from last week.

As we digest the news today that Oculus co-founder Brendan Iribe is stepping down from his role as CEO of the company and moving to head up the PC VR team, we asked Oculus whether Palmer Luckey would be staying with Facebook and Oculus through the transition.

“Palmer is still at Oculus and we’ll have more to share on his new role soon,” is our answer from an Oculus spokesperson.

Iribe is stepping down as CEO in a move that will result in the pioneering VR company splitting its mobile-based and PC-based VR divisions more cleanly. Iribe will lead the PC side, while Jon Thomason, who was formerly VP of Engineering at Qualcomm for five years and then VP of Mobile Shipping at Amazon before joining Oculus as Head of Software in August of this year, will head up the mobile division. Iribe and Thomason, along with Mike Schroepfer, CTO of Facebook, will reportedly all work together to find a new leader for Oculus VR moving forward.

“We’ve decided to establish new PC and mobile VR groups to be more focused, strengthen development and accelerate our roadmap.

Looking ahead and thinking about where I’m most passionate, I’ve decided to lead the PC VR group—pushing the state of VR forward with Rift, research and computer vision. As we’ve grown, I really missed the deep, day-to-day involvement in building a brand new product on the leading edge of technology.

You do your best work when you love what you’re working on. If that’s not the case, you need to make a change. With this new role, I can dive back into engineering and product development. That’s what gets me up every day, inspired to run to work.”

After publication, Oculus PR also informed us of how this affects the roles of Nate Mitchell, VP of Product, and Michael Abrash, Chief Scientist, upon further inquiry: “Nate will be leading Rift, on Brendan’s PC VR team. Michael Abrash still leads Oculus Research on Brendan’s team.”

When asked about John Carmack, CTO, and Michael Antonov, Chief Software Architect, Oculus PR informed us that, “they are both still at Oculus and they work on the mobile team. Michael Antonov is leading the Carmel and ReactVR effort today.”

New role?

I honestly don't know what they could announce for a new role that would mollify anyone concerned by Palmer Luckey's continued presence.

Not that they give a shit, but on the off chance anyone from that company reads this, I still haven't forgotten - I'll never buy anything Occulus related as long as Luckey is a part of that company.

Fuck Oculus and fuck Luckey, tried to hide his ass in a back room and assumed people would forget about him. The handling of this whole situation has been atrocious.

Remind me again why we're mad at Palmer? For supporting the man who won the presidency?

Doesn't seem like a crime to me.

I assume you know this already, but no, that's not why.

Supporting Trump is maybe number 8 on the list.

And don't think for a second that we don't see what you just did by pretending that winning makes it all ok. Gross.

Maybe consider the means he chose to use to support the piece if shit President Elect, instead of pretending it was a simple endorsement of a Presidential candidate.

Fuck Facebook
Fuck Oculus

No self-respecting PC gamer should be happy with either company.

Huh? You have all the facts all messed up. He even said he supported Gary Johnson.

That was a lie on top of his many lies. Luckey is not a good person, but I'm not surprised there are people here defending him.

Trust me i was being sarcastic. I posted that story about all that shady shit they were doing at the conference and about iribe looking for his mommy.

Lying is only one of his many character flaws.

His whole meme magic bigotry and arrogant rich man posts were enough to completely turn me off from Oculus for good. Won't buy their product even if they kicked him out, it's tainted for me.

Ah, you got me!

Don't worry I wasn't accusing you specifically of defending him.

It's well passed the point they could have publicly distanced themselves from Luckeys wankery. The whole company just looks like a bunch of arrogant, bigoted, elitist shits thanks to their tacit endorsement of his unacceptable actions.

Honestly just want to see them go belly up now. The Vive covers the PC VR market, and PSVR the console budget enthusiast market. Losing Oculus wouldn't damage anything.

They have just notified me as to Palmer Luckey's new working position:
