Final Fantasy XV Is GOTY For Shuhei Yoshida And FF Creator Hironobu Sakaguchi

I'm wrapping up the game soon. Let's see how it'll be.

Really enjoyed the game but I truly hope open-world is not the future of Final Fantasy from here on. I have had about all I can take of that formula.

Yup, my thought as well. I love open world games but please leave FF out of it.

Nice, I loved it as well despite any flaws.

I picked the OG by the car photo when you reach hammerhead. The beginning of it all sort of.

Not sure I entirely agree with Shu on this one

I kind would love for JRPG creators to look back at the wild imagination and diversity they embraced in the 90s

Adapting western ideas is fine and all but it cant be your endgame.... you have so much rich history to draw inspiration from

Then again if Nintendo is gonna adapt western games with Zelda..

Honestly I think the open world design is closer (not the same, but closer) to old FFs than the tunnel level design from X and XIII.

What they have to do is improve story implementation, pacing, and more interesting side quests.

So when do we start betting Persona 5 will be GAF's 2017 GOTY?

If so, he should have nominated Dragon Quest Builders because it's a really really good game. GOTY worthy even.

Waifiu avatar bets? I'm in. Kanji waifu best waifu

It was a joke, mayne.

If the slayer of Studio Liverpool and Evolution really thinks FF15 is the best game of the year, then more power to him.
Uh....you okay there? Like is this really hard for you?
I won't comment on your bait for MGSV, if you can't see how this game was great and won't be beaten in the next 5 years to come, I can't do nothing to change your mind but Persona 5 is better than FFXV in any way, it's the best representative of JRPG and a game that need to be praised, not FFXV so I agree with you for potential GOTY of 2017 ( in the West ).
...sure. I mean people have different tastes and all but sure.

Also, MGSV is a case I won't forget anytime soon.

I absolutely can't wait for Persona 5, but that doesn't have to mean that it is going to be everyone's favorite game.

FFXV is definitely in my top 2 for this year, but man that line about Kingsglaive from Sakaguchi made me cringe lol. Sounds like some kind of paid comment.

But then I remember he's been open about his criticism of XIII and how SE handled the XII project in the past, and also he is responsible for Spirits Within after all, so maybe he's being truthful.

In the credits roll for FFXV there's a Sony Interactive Entertainment logo. Did they help out with development?

I think the open world itself is what hinders the pacing. We have a story to follow yet we're fooling around in the open world. I mean, yeah it's optional but who wouldn't do that?

If they were to continue using open world concept, at least make some limitation first like the first chapter. Or maybe separate the open world regions into several big maps like in Dragon Age Inquisition. That way they can place more big cities and diverse/interesting places as well, FF things that's missing in XV that was the norm in previous titles.

You're in for a mess.

It's just...you can see the outline of what I think is a very good game (which is what keeps me playing). But it's just saddled down by so much shit. Which is probably the result of the 10 year dev time and never having a clear direction / lots of changes.

Not going to write a long post, but I disagree. Incomplete, messy games shouldn't be considered GOTY. At least Persona 5 won.

FFXV felt very shallow to me. I mean yes, there's lot of sidequests, but the open world design, lack of story, on-rails car, bad camera in combat, ackward summons, weird magic system and many other elements bring it down. Is it better than FFXIII? Yes. Is it on the same level of the best FF games? Hell no.

I don't find it particularly amusing at all at this point it's getting annoying now.

If people don't like the game. That's fine. Their opinion. What I don't like is when some act like it's a sin when others like the game and try to explain to you why you shouldn't like it.

I'm not sure I agree. The open world formula nowadays is to create one huge open area, then cram in as many generic quests as possible to give you stuff to do in that open area.

When I get to a town, I want to upgrade my weapons and armor and advance the story. Not have a bunch of lazy assholes start piling their chores on me.

You know that's 100% optional, right? You can just go to the settlements and buy weapons and items, just like in the old FFs.

The only reason they start "piling their chores on you" is because you accept those chores...

This is where I'm at. Nothing positive can be talked about with this game. Something good with sales it gets flipped, someones game of the year o let me tell you why you're wrong.

There is a lot of praise on page 1 of this thread, with several calling it their GOTY. Search the word good and it pops up 13 times with 1 quote. It continues on to this page. A lot of people are happy with the game and saying they are.

This 100 percent. I am so tired of this crap. So I like the game, big deal. Don't tell me that it's the worst Final Fantasy of all-time 100 times in a row.

Especially when there's like 10 plus threads telling me this.

Please point where Sakaguchi and Yoshida claim that FFXV is their GOTY.

The word "Fun" per se doesn't mean that.

The 140 developers votes for GOTY should be it's own thread. On topic, Good for FF15 I guess? Will get the game once the GOTY edition is out 🐆

Man, some delicious salt in this thread. :p

This is the most amazing FFXV thread i've ever seen on this forum

A thread where positivity is the majority and salt is the minority. Holy shit.

Thanks Shuhei, thanks Sakaguchi, u da bestest.

Gonna get popcorn and see how many more people assume Shuhei was paid off to praise a multiplatform game

Just finished it myself last night and loved it. Like TLG, it's rough around the edges, but the payoff was so good!

It's funny cause the first page of this thread is mostly positive responses for the game as well with a couple of negative posts, while the second page is more negative with some brushing it off saying that Yoshida has to do this for money or for Japan or for something. Same with Sakaguchi.

FfXV is great, I love it, but it's the equivalent of a student shitting out a A+ essay having started 48 hours before the deadline. Think about what they could do if they worked seriously and consistently from the start...

It seems hard to tell, but the people that don't like FF15 are in the vocal minority. Overall the game is well praised and successful; some people feel threatened by that because it means Final Fantasy might not go back to the turn based linear formula they love. Which is an understandable fear, but not really a good reason to mindlessly hate on a game.

Sonic handles my blue balls
1. Persona 5
2. Pokemon GO
3. Final Fantasy XV

So basically World of Final Fantasy GO would destroy Japan.

For me this game is riddled with too many baffling design choices and short comings to be my goty, despite enjoying it and getting the platinum

Days like these...

Have a Blessed Day
People who were heavily emotionally invested in and waited 10 yrs. with bated breath for a game claiming it's the game of the year? Who'd have thunk?
