This thread is pure gold. I love when such stuff get's discovered in old(er) games.

Man I need to play Super Mario World again, it's been too long.

Not sure if it's been mentioned; if you die in Super Mario Bros, hold the A button at the title screen and press start to resume from the beginning of the last world you were at. I learned this far too late in life.

WHAT?

As I read the topic I thought "he must mean Big Boss", but then it made even less sense.

This is frackin' huge. The young me is devastated.

I didn't even know you could slide down stairs, jeez. Mario's butt is OP.

Not sure how well known this is, but in OoT, the floor at the entrance to the Sacred Forest Meadow is bombable and leads to a secret area with really weird looking wall textures not seen anywhere else in the game. There's nothing of note there but it's so different looking compared to every other secret hole I thought it was some huge secret when I first found it.

In Super Mario World, if Yoshi licks up a P-Switch after it has been pressed and spits it out fast enough, a Cheep-Cheep will spawn alongside the P-Switch.

In Super Mario Bros., if Mario runs out of invincibility frames while inside an enemy, he will not be hurt by it as long as he continues moving in such a way as to stay within the enemy’s hitbox. However, upon exiting the enemy, it can hurt Mario again

The Cheep-Cheep is a random glitch, but the regenerating P-Switch is a thing, yes.

Semi-related (since it's Yoshi), but if you line them up properly, you can hold items while riding Yoshi.

Unrelated, but if you're holding an item underwater, you can spin your cape/shoot fireballs with the X button as long as you continue to hold Y, or vice-versa.

NO... THIS CAN'T BE... THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE!

How did it take this long for this to become common knowledge? Why did so many not try this before?

I'm gonna guess nobody bothered to read the Mario Mania guide, because that information and so much more was all listed in there.

I'm not lying when I say that guide is a treasure trove of knowledge. Some of the things I learned were:

- the first 4 castles have easy ways to score 1ups (examples 1 and 2)
- If you catch an item that you can hold while climbing a vine/fence (a turtle shell, spring, P-Block, etc), you'll hold it while climbing. This is only really useful in one of the World 3 stages, it's a vertical stage I forget the number.
- Killing enemies with the Fire Flower turns them into coins. If there's too many of those coins on the screen, no more enemies will spawn.
- In the Ghost Ship level, you can skip most of the section where the ghosts disappear/reappear by walking on the ground with Yoshi while Mario is small. The hitbox is small enough that none of them can hurt you. Obviously this is slow, but it's safer by far.
- You can make Yoshi stick out his tongue while standing instead of ducking by holding Up on the dpad while hitting Y/X.
- Yoshi can spit out shells (or anything really) without making them fly out of his mouth by ducking then hitting Y/X. This makes it easier to keep stuff without auto-swallowing it automatically.

So much of this stuff is common knowledge to me and it surprises me that it went (apparently) unknown for all these years.

Holy shit! I guess I have an excuse, as I've never owned a Nintendo console until the Wii U, but I still feel I should've known this. Me and my friends used to smash through the old games on the SNES back in the day and I don't recall any of us doing this.

The first one I knew back then because I discovered it myself. And every time I played that level I would always make sure to farm lives before moving on. But that second one blows my mind. Haha. I'm gonna try that next time I play that level.

This one I only learned about when people started using it in Mario Maker. I was actually shocked when I found out you could also do it in the original game.

Well, not red shells. They always become fire balls even if you duck. Maybe also yellow shells since they give you all the powers at once.

You're thinking about the flashing shells, which are (for some reason) turned into flashing shells from yellow shells when a koopa jumps back in them. Yellow shells by themselves make you stomp on the ground when landing and make two dust clouds pop out.

Sweet Jesus. Mario's indestructible ass crack is the most powerful force ever witnessed in gaming. I want my childhood back for my score attack runs. Who even thought the saw was a thing that could be "killed" for points? Such a cruel joke. I see that smile...... that block must have known all along.

Question: Can these situations be created in Super Mario Maker? Experiment time.

This reminds me of that goldmine of a thread "Videogame facts that blow your MIND"

edit: This is god damn bull shit
SupperMarioBroth is a fantastic blog. There's stuff like this on there constantly. The one from the other day about how AI in Mario Kart will clip through bananas if they're far away from you was amazing.

Expected MGS shenanigans, but I'm satisfied by Mario shenanigans.

Pannenkoek's channel is great for obscure/intricate details on Mario 64.

In Super Mario World, Mario can fly through stairs. As long as he is moving upwards as he is passing the stairs, he will go right through.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaa.....

Does this also work in the GBA version? Or just SNES?
