You can do this in Mario Maker as well. It's a pretty important trick in some user created levels.

Also, since it was bottom-paged:

In Super Mario World, Mario can fly through stairs. As long as he is moving upwards as he is passing the stairs, he will go right through.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaa.....

Does this also work in the GBA version? Or just SNES?

I knew about the Big Boo and the Green Bubble. Me and a friend discovered it by accident back in the day. It can also be done with the fireballs Iggy and Larry spit at you.

The saw one, though? That's new to me.

Another trick is throwing an item upwards and then grab it while climbing a vine.

I can't even remember if I knew this or not. I'm not surprised by it though because Mario can kill almost anything with a slide.

You can kill fire and castle waffles by transforming to a statue as Tanooki Mario.

Might have been well known, I just didn't know about it despite beating the game a lot.

Well, at 37 years old and playing Mario almost my entire life... I NEVER knew about any statue form in the tanooki suit.... Didn't know about the boo stair thing either.

Yeah, I think I've seen that before.

Proof? This one, if true, is the real mindblower for me.

Oh shit it's true

In Super Mario World, if Yoshi licks up a P-Switch after it has been pressed and spits it out fast enough, a Cheep-Cheep will spawn alongside the P-Switch.

These though. Damn. That ain't right.

Except the Goomba Shoe air jump. I knew about that one.

I consider SMW my favorite game of all time, and I did not know you could kill Boos that way. It is 7:30 AM and I am now questioning my entire existence.

The amount of surprises and cool little details in Nintendo titles never ceases to amaze me. I love learning new things about my favorite games.

I knew about the statue (Yay instruction booklets!) but had no idea why it was useful. Then I saw a gif of someone turning into the statue in mid air to crush an enemy and that blew my mind.

Don't you actually need this at this point in the level? Or at least it's much easier this way to get to the part at the bottom. I think I remember doing that, and it certainly was in one of these guidebooks.

In the Funky level in Super Mario World, let the timer go below 100 so the music speeds up, then have Yoshi eat a Green Berry before the timer hits 80 so it goes above 100. Let the timer go below 100 again and the music will speed up again. You can do this multiple times so the music speeds up to super fast levels (although I think it caps at one point).

I love how people are saying there is no way you could have known this when right at this moment there are people doing impossible things in video games for charity.

Hold up. You didn't know the tanooki suit could turn into a statue? What did you think the whole point of it was then? You never wondered how it differed from the Super Leaf?

This is honestly the most mind-blowing thing in this thread for me. Holy shit.

In Super Mario World, if you throw something like a key straight up, and then catch it while getting on Yoshi, you can carry the key while riding on Yoshi's back.

My brothers and I actually found this independently when we wanted to see if it was possible after seeing the vine trick for carrying keys up one.
