"In Mario Party games, the outcome of every die roll is completely independent of the actual timing with which you hit the block. Note how Mario gets the same 5 no matter when he hits the block. The die rolls are decided at the beginning of the turn and all interaction the player has is merely an illusion.:

Holy shitttttttt.

So basically the outcome of Mario Party games are rigged?

The new shocking secret revealed (remember that thread? About the clouds and bushes being the same sprite in SMW).

I didn't know about this btw. Awesome.

iam actually more shocked, that most people who played this game didnt know this. some stuff is known or was written in magazines back then or was also written in the manuals.
this wasnt a big one, there were clearly other awesome things going on, like the infinite life trick in smw or the free upgrade level on the second island.

btw. what happened to the old thread? why not just merge them? this thread is slightly becoming off-topic, with all those other non SMW-game-"secrets"

Don't know what's worse to discover years later:

  • This
  • Finding out how to control the rotating teeth in the Carnival stage of Sonic 3.
  • Finding out forward->forward->punch by Axel in Streets of Rage kills everything.

Whatever. Not knowing helped me develop problem solving skills as a kid.

Learned in SOR2 that when thrown through the air, Hold up+jump and you'll land on your feet and take no damage whatsoever. That was kind of depressing knowing how many lives I lost in mania mode because of throw damage I could have prevented the whole time.

Dude where the hell was all this shit in the Mindblowing Video Game Secrets thread? That thing has sat there for years with nothing but interesting tidbits at best. The whole time there was this wealth of actual mind blowing stuff that you were all keeping to yourself?

I thought it was common knowledge. :p

I'm not sure who's joking and who isn't ITT. Do people really think this wasn't known before now? All of the doubt/shade being thrown at people who say they already knew. How young are you guys?

Been playing Mario World since it came out, have beaten it 100% more times than I can remember and have a damn good speedrun PB on it. Never knew that you could slide to kill big boos and sawblades.

I've never once seen this in a video, guide, or another player playing. I don't find it so hard to believe this weird trick is so widely undocumented.

I'm surprised you didn't know this. All enemies in SMW can be defeated by sliding down stairs.

I always assumed Big Boo was an exception, not sure why. I also don't think there's any spots in the game where doing so is advantageous in any way so I've honestly never tried.

As far as the sawblades. I mean come on, nobody knew that. That is a glitch for sure. Anyone who knew it was dicking around and found out on accident.

But this can't be the case for every Mario Party game. In Mario Party 3 if you hit the dice when it was at it's highest point it would result in a higher number. And if you hit it when it was low in its animation, then the number would be low as well. Right? Right?! :-S

I mean, Big Boos weren't ever actually invincible to begin with and I'm pretty sure I figured this out in all the times i played SMW back in the day.

I believe the manual is referring to the fact if Yoshi swallows the shell you are holding in his mouth, he will lose the fly/stomp power the blue and yellow shells afford you. (Yoshi automatically swallows items in his mouth after a certain amount of time.)

Ah, I guess I misread it then.

I refuse to accept this on the grounds that it would make my entire life a lie.

Someone email this to Giant Bomb right now.

Though what about slow dice? And is every turn-deciding dice roll those four numbers or does it cycle through a set or pre-fixed results?

I was 12 when SMW came out and I got it that Christmas. I would routinely erase my saves and bring every slot back up to 96* for fun. The amount of times that I finished that game is second only to SMB1. I never knew this. Hell, I'm not sure I even knew you could slide down stairs. I came across a lot of the other quirks and tricks on my own but I've never seen or heard of this. Not from EGM, Gamepro, GameFan, C&VG, etc. I'm not saying that I doubt that people knew, just that I didn't know even though I played it for years. Pretty cool though.
