Nintendo uploads ARMS stream (Japanese, nearly an hour)... Game looks fantastic!

Yep, classic controls are supported. But this looks like a game you should really, really, REALLY give a chance with motion controls. ARMS is a massive leap over past motion-based boxing games. Not to mention the crazy amount of mobility you have in addition to the punching.

It's more like a projectile-based game, in a sense, given the emphasis on ranged attacks and guiding your shots.

It's also online, so I look forward to clobbering the shit out of everyone here.

nah, classic controls are the only reason I'm giving this a shot. Game does look good

This game looks pretty rad. I'm just hoping that there's more than five characters in the final version (I feel like a fighter needs to have 8 at bare minimum), and that there's some kind of single player content.

I'm getting this good feeling from Nintendo lately. They have a lot of inspired talent, and they're trying new ideas. I just hope they manage the company well enough to let more of those ideas come to fruition. A new golden era of original Nintendo titles would be amazing.

I had an idea for a secondary multiplayer: Two players playing the game in single-player against a cpu, Pacific Rim-style, each player uses one con.

I hope Nintendo gives this one a good push with an open beta and a strong service model.

It looks very good, but I think it will need some help to win people over.

Could also become a sleeper hit for a lack of alternatives like ExciteTruck back at Wii launch. A lot of my non gamer friends played and loved that game, just like most gamers did.

Considering how many people were wearing them, all with different colors, they're definitely trying to merchandize this game.

Which could be good news for their future marketing effort...?
I hope to see an amiibo line for ARMS, with bendy arms like the BotW Guardian amiibo

My biggest disappointment. Switch has better motion and rumble tech. Excite Trucks is amazing, while not even being in HD. A Switch sequel could only be extraordinary. Feeling the sand, ice, rocks, rebounds on hills, the turbo boost. It would be one hell of HD rumble showcase. I want it so much at E3.

Ooooh yeah, that sounds hot. Wasn't there a recent rumor regarding Excite Truck? Like, a renewed trademark or something?

What was their response to the Splatoon response? This feels similar.

They did a demo and then extended (free) support, right? Seems like we could at least see the demo and even expanded character roster with DLC (and stages).

I played the SHIT out of Excite Truck at launch. Custom soundtracks was the GOAT for me back then.

Hearing ARMS is gonna have a single player mode and online is also awesome. I really want to test it out, hopefully at Best Buy.

Yeah, Excite Truck was a beast. It just needed a more interesting aesthetic where the trucks and presentation are concerned, and it would've been GOAT.

I was skeptical at first but I'm warming. I've always thought there should be viable PvP boxing games.

But like others, can't decide if I'd rather get a pro controller or a second pair of joycons/charging grip.

Yup I'm getting this, looks like so much fun. They need to let people know this is from the Mario Kart team, a lot more people will be willing to try it out if they knew the pedigree behind it.

Anyone else think Nintendo will do an eSports championship like the Pokemon ones?
They have Smash, Splatoon and soon enough Arms. If Pokemon Company doesn't do like usual, they could have Pokken or even mainline pokemon too.
I think it would be a great advertising to Nintendo.

The real question is, if there's an ARMS character in Smash Switch, who will it be: Spring Man or Ribbon Girl?

Answer:
Both, in the same slot — one being the alternate of the other!

I think that's how they would do it. They're positioninhg Spring Man and Ribbon Girl like a Ryu and Ken equivalent.

Everybody in the comments saying it should be a budget title lol. Hopefully an eventual arms direct turns some heads.

It really saddens me how people perceive no value in video games. They've just become disposable junk for a lot of people.

Obviously it hard to gauge the value of the game without seeing what it offers, but just a general observation.

I hope that Nintendo will push an esports angle, yes.

Well, eSports were heavily featured in the debut trailer for the Switch.

Assuming Neiteio is right, and this is the Mario Kart team, then they'll probably go all out in support for this one.

I had just assumed it was a newer team where they might be more hesitant.

I definitely think they'll add content post-release. Not sure about a Beta though, although I guess Splatoon got one?

As a Virtual On fan, and fighting game fan in general, I'm really looking forward to this. My group of friends are all probably more excited about ARMS and Mario or Zelda, honestly.

Good to hear confirmation that there will be more than 5 characters. 8 from the off and another 4 added via dlc over 12 months or something would be good.

Nintendo need to market this like overwatch as a hero fighter or something. The characters have fantastic designs, let them and their personalities sell the game.

Oh and a solid single player mode with story for each character world really help this aspect too imo.

This is what it's come to, huh? Have fighting games really fallen so far?
MOBAs and Hero Shooters have taken so much from fighting games, that fighting games don't even have their own identities any more.

This could-ve been so amazing as an energy beams dragon ball game, with grabs being essentially teleport close to enemy and execute combo if u hit.

I'd love it if Little Mac is playable but has no stretching arms. Instead he's super agile (like, insanely so) and has to close the gap and get to the opponent's face in order to land hits or grabs.

I was actually thinking the same thing, I agree that would be better. Still think Nintendo would keep the distance based gameplay though. We'll have to wait and see I suppose.

This game is gonna be a hit, calling it now.
Lot of people keep talking about it, seems really cool, online also right? Would be amazing if it has some depth and strategy AND is motion controlled that would be quite a win

History is written by the victors, or however that goes.

I hope the single player is like a punch out game. It better have loads of awesome characters to fight, more than the ones selectable. We need CPU bosses and stuff that have their own rules and patterns.

I'm loving the apparent depth of the game. You have the holy trinity of fighting games (attack/block/throw), but on top of that you have more conventional 3D movement with lateral dodges and air dashes. Being able to curve punches is sick, along with each hand operating independently - should be some tricky timing-based strategies players come up with. That's not even getting into unique character traits, using trampolines to set juggles, different arena layouts, etc...

Never really been into fighting games, but stuff like ARMS and For Honor (check this game out guys the beta was incredible) are presenting the core concepts in a way that I can see myself enjoying more than a traditional fighter.
